I loved my stay at the Sourwood Inn. It is comfortable and quiet. It is the perfect place to explore the Blue Ridge Mountains in all their glory, especially the biking and hiking. Food was also very good. And the owners, Proal and Connie Perry are wonderful hosts!

We stayed at Sourwood Inn for two nights in the quite lovely Hummingbird Room. Sunday night dinner was amazing! The room was elegant, with every need and want anticipated. The staff was attentive and friendly. Already planning our next trip.

As we searched for a fall escape to cooler weather from the Gulf Coast, we found Sourwood Inn highly recommended in a North Carolina guide book. The property is spectacularly set on the top of Elk Mountain just outside of Asheville, providing expansive views. Each guest room has a private balcony looking out over the distant mountains, a wood burning fireplace and a spa like bath and shower The sleeping rooms had screened window and doors so they could be left open for the mountain air. Sumptuous breakfast buffets were prepared each morning. We included the evening meal plan offered Thursday-Sunday prepared by a local chef -$ $ 45per person per meal. An excellent wine and beer menu as well. Delightful snacks, including cheese, dips, crackers and home made cookies were offered every afternoon from 4-6pm. The porch with rocking chairs, and a flagstone terrace offering outdoor eating options to balance the Inside gathering spaces - a large room was separated in two by a stone fireplace. Very comfortable sofas and chairs strategically placed throughout. Beautiful hardwood floors everywhere.

I can’t say enough good things about this traditional inn. Some highlights were the meals we had that were prepared, particularly the breakfast! They also offer complimentary snacks between 4-6. We arrived just around 6:30 and they had left the snacks our later, just in the event we were hungry after our trip there! The inn keepers and staff were so accommodating and friendly! The rooms were clean and our room had a beautiful view from the balcony! There are also a couple of short hiking trails on the property that are easily accessible and made for a relaxing walk through the woods.

The Sourwood Inn is a beautiful place….the Inn and the grounds are stunning. We were greeted from our stressful drive (no signage off Blue Ridge and a missed turn) with open arms and a cold glass of Prosecco. We were given a short tour and help with getting our bags to our room. Since we had a late and large lunch in Asheville, we just relaxed and walked around the property. Breakfast the next morning was fine, although my picky eater husband would have desired some toast and eggs, rather than an egg dish filled with things he doesn’t care for. The hosts were very kind and helpful with directions. Our room, and all the rooms, were just beautiful! So relaxing and quiet! The bathtub with the waterfall spout and the windows opened to the fresh air and beautiful view was a highlight! Our only complaint….food. We had to trek down to Asheville for food before we could set out on a hike. They only provide breakfast daily and dinners only Thursday-Sunday. They do put out a little spread with cheese dips and crackers, cookies, nuts and such from 4-6, but not enough for a meal. It seems like they could offer a picnic lunch for the day, and maybe a simple pizza or soup & salad for dinner on the off nights. The 2nd mornings’ breakfast was much better and offered more variety. I would absolutely return, however a small fridge in the room, and offerings of more food would be desirable! Truly it is a special place , wish we lived closer to visit more often!
