But the front desk staff are clueless. They can’t answer basic questions (like “where is the nearest ATM?” Since the hotel does not have an ATM) or know the hotels policies and procedures (like what time do you have to turn in your laundry to get same day service?” - clue, it is printed on the ticket that the guest fills out). The incompetence of the front desk staff is not what you would expect from a hotel that charges $400 - $600 per night to stay there. NEVER AGAIN.

Hotel's Favourite
Visiting Asheville for an event, decided to stay 2 nights at the Foundry. A very unique property, great amenities, and outstanding staff. Our king room was well appointed and spotless. Breakfast, provided as a Hilton Diamond member, at Belle's was limited but well prepared with excellent service. The valet staff went beyond, providing to- and-from at the event we were attending, utilizing the hotel's Tesla. The Workshop Lounge was a great stopping point for either before or after a night out. An excellent location for walking downtown Asheville.

A beautiful reconstruction of an industrial space, The Foundry Hotel Asheville has lots of potential. But the following observations/incidents during our stay prevented us from giving it a high rating: The front-desk person was rather impersonal, which is not a surprise, but it doesn't separate the hotel from any other cookie-cutter middle-of-the-road hotel. The room, albeit beautiful, had a musty odor upon our arrival. As in most hotels, they take control of the A/C at night and in the early fall nights we were there this led to a bedroom that was uncomfortably warm for sleeping well. There is a well-renowned restaurant in the lobby where the service was so slow and aloof that we left without even being able to place our order. Finally, one day we left a tip for Housekeeping in the late morning and left the room. When we returned a couple of hours later, the room had not been cleaned, but the tip was gone...Neither the Housekeeping person nor the front-desk staff gave us a valid explanation for this. They later called us to tell us that a manager had taken the money to give it to the correct person. Why would a manager take money for a job not completed?? Overall, there are better choices out there to spend your money on.

We are very sorry for the experience you had while staying at The Foundry. The service you expected was not delivered and is not a reflection of that our hotel is known for. Our hotel is renowned for our excellent customer service, cleanliness and attention to detail - all of which we fell short. The instances that you mention are treated very seriously and we will continue to look into this matter to ensure a proper resolution. The feedback you provide is extremely valuable and will aid us in the continuous improvement of our guest experience. We truly thank you for your stay and sharing your thoughts. Although we did not live up to expectations this time, we would truly love to host you again during your visit to Asheville next time. Thank you and we hope to see you again soon. Best regards,

Beautiful hotel, uber clean, plush linens. Very romantic, lush vibe, with a warm industrial theme. Easy, safe walking distance to many restaurants and art galleries, which I appreciated as a solo traveler. Favorites: Chestnut Restaurant, City Bakery (delicious chicken salad,) Bear's Smokehouse (food truck with outdoor seating; fantastic BBQ, )The Med: delicious grits and made-from-scratch breakfast. Penny Cup coffee shop right next door to hotel (kids working there weren't friendly, though.) Enjoyed visiting the Asheville Museum of Art. I walked the 2 miles back from the Biltmore Estate (sun set during the walk and it felt a bit lonely/sketchy until I got back to the busier downtown area.) I got a Lyft to the base of the Craggy Pinnacle Trail: from the top, you have 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains; viewing the sunset was a highlight & I got gorgeous pictures! (It was very cold though - 55 degrees by the time I descended the trail.) Scheduled the Lyft pickup in advance, 30 minutes after the sunset (only needed 20) due to limited cell service. I felt this trip overall would be more fun with a group or as a couple...the hotel really does have an intimate, romantic vibe. Car rentals were outrageous ($170/day; hotel also has a daily valet charge) but would have provided more freedom to explore the area. Lyft rides to Blue Ridge Mountain trails etc. were about $34 each way; so overall, using Lyft when necessary saved a lot of money. Same for the airport about 20 - 30 minutes away. I'm into fitness and a walker; so I didn't mind walking most places. Again, this hotel's location made it easy to do so. Only 2 little blips: because I booked through TripAdvisor Plus, my reservation was not accessible to the hotel front desk to make any changes to the room (a friend had to bow out at the last minute.) However, I was able to call directly & request a quiet room in advance (B209.) It really was - until the live jazz band Wednesday evening (we shared a wall.) Lots of laughing and gaiety from the lounge steps away. I like jazz though; and just stayed up later (it got quiet at midnight.) The only other other small issue: I booked the room with my credit card through TripAdvisor Plus (charge went through immediately at booking, fyi; and as stated, was non-refundable. Also got the ADA 2 queen bed room (accessible shower - all beautiful, no difference in luxury. Saved about $80/night.) When I checked in, I was asked for a credit card for "incidentals." I assumed this meant food, drink, etc.; so I presented my debit card. The day after I returned home, there was a $300 debit charge pending... Had I known I would be charged $100/day for a security deposit, in addition to any incidental charges made, I would have presented a credit card. I was told the pending charge would drop off after 7 - 10 business days (and that these fees are "common knowledge" - ?) but still, it was an unpleasant surprise. (Btw I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton, Naples and Mandarin Oriental, Miami in the last few years; and do not recall this charge; however, maybe I just didn't notice due to it dropping off the credit card before the bill came.) I disputed the debit charge with my bank and also TripAdvisor Plus; and it was removed the next day. The bellmen at the door and staff overall were very welcoming: Brittany, concierge; Gabriel, bellman, C.J. front desk, especially. This made a pleasant difference and was much appreciated as a solo traveler. There was a Tesla car service but this feature wasn't explained to me so I never checked into it...
