This was our second time staying at this Sonder location, and like our first trip this apartment did not disappoint. The location is fantastic and the apartment was very comfortable and quite spacious! Shower was hot and the bed was comfy, and of course you are 5 minutes away from anything you might possibly need. Oh, and it is great to have two sets of washer/dryers right in the building. The only possible downside is if you have a car, as this is a residential neighborhood with restricted parking, but the Boston Common garage is just a 10 minute walk away, and you can prepurchase parking at a discounted hotel rate of just $18.
The Hancock doesn't have an elevator. My location was on the top floor which required our luggage to be brought up 5 floors as the building entrance is in the basement. The building has high ceilings which means each stairway is quite high. If you make it to the top with your luggage, you will find a nice apartment perfect for someone tall. The only mirror is in the bathroom. I could only see my forehead and the top of my head. The shower head was much too high for me to make any adjustment. Needless to say the kitchen shelves were high. The location of the apartment building on Beacon Hill was great. That was the reason I selected it.
Great location! Beware there are 3 flights of stairs to apartment 9. Very attentive to our needs. Great customer service! Could have used a shelf in the bathroom to put personal items! Could have used a mirror in living so someone else could get ready if the bathroom was busy. Overall, great place!
I was due to stay two nights at Sonder with a friend as our trips overlapped. I had to cancel my trip from Australia due to covid. We tried to cancel the second night of accommodation but were one day out of the cancellation policy and no refund could be provided. So we had to pay for the extra night which no one used Disappointed with the lack of flexibility for circumstances beyond our control.
Comfortable stay in the central and walkable Beacon Hill neighborhood. The 1BR unit offered good amenities and lots of charm. Be prepared for four flights of stairs access the unit. Would definitely return. Good value for such a central location in the heart of a charming historic neighborhood. Lots of great restaurants and bars nearby.
Cute little apartment in Beacon Hill. Our unit was in the back however and faced the interior courtyard where the fire escapes are. Knowing that I had booked a Brownstone on a great street, I was hoping for a view. The photos must show other units combined because they showed bright sunny windows. I would suggest a full size mirror and an extra blanket. Other than that it was great - nice furniture, full amenities, easy check-in process and great communication.
Sonder The Hancock is a very nice old building, in a very good shape. There is only one thing, there is no lift and if you are in 5 floor, as we were, arriving with luggage may be difficult. Among that everything was very good.
Bed was smaller & squeaky (think Ikea with a weak frame) — reminded me of an upgraded dorm bed — but comfy anyway. Narrow, steep & uneven stairs (no elevator) + they didn’t tell me I was on the 3rd Fl. until post booking — not a fun discovery! But the place had cute decor and it was nice (& necessary) to have an extra room as my partner had early and work calls and could do them in the main room and not the bedroom… And it was nice having a full fridge (if I had stayed for more days this kitchen / living room situation would have been great). Parking is a pain but there was a lot about .2 mi away so not too bad. Good security — all digital codes for outside door and unit door. And when I had an issue I got someone to respond quickly via text so that’s helpful since there isn’t a reception desk or staff. …
The best feature of this rental was the location. An historic property in the heart of Beacon Street, all typical tourist destinations are within walking distance. With a Whole Foods and restaurants nearby, getting items for either cooking or carry out was within a 4-minute walk. The place was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was adequately equipped for most tasks. My only criticism is that the furnishings are basic, low-end products, a few of which should probably be replaced. It also is not as friendly as other vacation rentals where you have direct contact with an owner. It might be difficult to solve problems if they come up as the Sonder customer service is not easy to deal with. You also have to accept that it is a very old building with slanted stairs and creaky floors. There was a pay washer/dryer on the first floor, which I am not sure was mentioned in the amenities. Otherwise, our stay was great, and I would choose this place again.…
Very convenient to State House and Common area. affordable, clean and attractive. Didn't drive in so not sure of parking potential or availability. Website easy to deal with and will use again if need arises!
