From the second we checked in ( with the kind and courteous concierge named Doug helping us navigate our way in this new neighborhood)- to the minute we left today, our first stay at The Liberty in Boston was EXCEPTIONAL. I have always said “It’s all about the details” when staying at a hotel, and this one passed with flying colors. This is by far, the most creative reuse and renovation of an old building we have ever seen. Having originally been a jail in 1815, all the cool nuances that still reference the jail are everywhere. If you want privacy in your room, a fabric sign with a huge keychain says “Solitary”. The one dining room is called “Clink” and the old cell doors are an integral part of the design. 12 original cells have been expanded to be some of the 200+ rooms. The decor in all the rooms have reproduction photos and other references to the jail, and are appointed with handsome leather chairs and side tables. Lighting is soft and lovely in the rooms, although a small nightlight in the bathroom would be welcome - instead of the glaring lights in the middle of the night that unfortunately make it impossible to fall back asleep quickly. We had cocktails in the glorious expansive lobby that gives you a clear view of what it was like to be a jail in the 1800’s. Light dances around the whole place from massive multi story windows that allowed us to watch a stunning sunset last night. Breakfast was so delicious in “Clink”- kudos to the chef and all the staff there. The Liberty is a one of a kind hotel that deserves the highest accolades. We will be back to explore more hidden treasures, not only to be found in the hotel, but in the breathtakingly beautiful Beacon Hill neighborhood. Thank you to all the staff- from the doorman and housekeeping to the concierges and management - for blowing us away during the first of many trips to Boston! It is by far, my new favorite hotel now. Cheers to all, see you soon!

My gf and I decided to do a staycation of sorts for two nights and we chose to stay at The Liberty and what a great decision it was. We had a beautiful room. We felt safe the entire time from check in to check out. They are clearly taking the pandemic procedures seriously. Mierko was simply amazing! He had flowers ordered to the room and were beautifully displayed alongside a picture of my gf and I. She was so happy! I would certainly stay here again should we decide to do another staycation. Very impressed!!!

We arrived Friday evening 01 April 2021, having had very little difficulty finding it. We utilized valet parking, and were quickly registered (plastic shields and masks). We showed ourselves to our room via 2 passengers/trip elevators. The lobby was multi-storied and unique, as befits the building's origin as a county prison. Seating in the lobby was rather sparse, and by reservation only. COVID restrictions persist. The room as spacious, clean, with contemporary furnishings. King size bed quite comfortable. Bath spacious and clean with tub and shower. All in all, the suite had a comfortable feel. We had made reservations for Saturday dinner and Sunday (Easter) brunch. Service was excellent, food was delicious, and despite explicit time limitations we were not pressured to finish up and leave. Personnel were friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. We're not great at names, but remember Renee, Concierae, who obtained same-night dinner reservations for us at Bin 26, just down Charles Street. Also Tracy, staff in the Clink, made breakfast/brunch a delight. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Some small ideas for an even better venue include: A little more light in the room--at least a second bedside lamp, towel racks for bathroom sink, Safety grab bars in shower (likely tub too, but we didn't use that). I'm embarrassed to say that we left several items in the room upon departure. They cheerily packed and shipped them for us, without a hit of reluctance. We will definitely stay there again.

On arrival there were people working at the entrance. A gentleman parked our car but no one was available to help with our bags which we did have several of and it was myself and my 15 year old daughter. We gathered our bags and entered to an empty lobby with a very high escalator. There was no one to direct us and again no one to help with our luggage. We fumbled up the escalator and waited for check in. the woman at the front desk was very polite and personable. She informed us that the elevators were not working and we would need to go downstairs in order to use a working elevator. We left one bag at the desk as at that point we were overwhelmed by carrying all of it. We made it to our room which was spacious but had a crummy view of a surgery center across the way. I wanted to go to the lobby to purchase a drink. The elevator did not work. I waited and eventually found the stairs and walked the 4 flights down. There were no signs directing guests since no elevators. I purchased a drink and again had to go down the stairs with it in order to go up. Another guest lamented that he was on a higher floor and the elevators had been quite a problem. We had dinner reservations at Clink. It appeared they may have been understaffed as there was only one wait person that we observed and it took quite long to get drinks and food. The lobby area is beautiful. I did receive an email from management asking about our experience and they did credit me for the hotel fee and parking fee so that was something but when you book an expensive hotel in a city like Boston you definitely expect better. They market this hotel as luxury but that was not our experience.

Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed review with us. We were undergoing a revitalization of one of our elevators during your stay which caused a slight delay, and for this we apologize. We strive to provide a luxury experience for all of our guests, and are sorry to hear that we did not meet all of your expectations. We thank you for this feedback which we have shared with our management team, and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Liberty on future travels to Boston.

The doorman was extremely welcoming and professional, the bellman as well. The front desk immediately acted annoyed by me. They then put us in a fairly disappointing room next to the elevator with the worst view in Boston of the side of an ugly building. Management did absolutely nothing to make this better or move us to a better room. They just said they were fully booked and made it seem like I should just deal with it. The room was dumpy and small. The lamp shade looked like it had been in a fight. The carpet was old and worn. Not worth $400 per night. We left immediately and found a nicer place for around the same price. Don’t waste your time, go elsewhere.
