My boyfriend and I stayed for one night here, for our anniversary, and we definitely regret it. Although the outside of the building as well as the lobby and pool area are lovely, the rooms are very drab, the bathroom has no counter, and it's got extremely old carpet (which comes with that extremely old carpet smell.) However, the room...

HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 16 March 2017

We booked The Lafayette because of the New York Times article, "36 Hours in San Diego." The updated "motel-style" rooms are large -our 2nd floor room overlooked the pool with our own balcony. The pool is 25 meters, perfect for laps, plus has a 7ft deep end. Would recommend breakfast and/or drinks in the restaurant - we went both days....

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Lafayette Hotel overall. A couple of things, the room was small and we understand there is the historical aspect to it but no place to really put anything anywhere in the bathroom or the main room as far as our suitcases and bathroom personal things go. Small glass shelf in the...

Dear Paul, Thank you for posting your review. We are delighted that you were pleased with our unique style. We appreciate your feedback on the other areas as well. We are on the Registry on Historical Places, and n order to maintain this designation, we have limits on what we can do construction-wise, including expanding our bathrooms. However, rest assured...

We stayed for five nights and I don't have one negative comment to make. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful, the room consisting of two double beds was immaculate and the cleaning staff helped keep it that way. The Hope Restaurant's meals were so appetizing and affordable that we ate there at least once a day. It was...

This is a great hotel and in a pretty central location in San Diego. If you love a good pool, this is the place to be. The hotel also has different events in the lobby, such as markets (clothing) and various entertainment (tarot card readers). The rooms are decent size and comfortable.

The hotel is way to old. The pictures shown on the Web are not the rooms that are booked. They have zero ice machines, you have to get a bag of ice from the front desk. The parking is very difficult to find and the spaces are very tight. The bathrooms do not have a counter and the pool is...

Hi Luz, Thank you for your feedback. We apologize that you were not pleased with your stay. We're 70 years old and in the National Registry of Historic Places so we're not the place for people looking for a new hotel. We removed all ice machines because of the noise they make. Sometimes guests who have a room near them...

Stayed for 4 nights. The pool is heated, the people are pretty nice, towels and seats were available by the pool, pretty good bar/restaurant on the premises and slept pretty well. Room was tiny, housekeeping was abysmal, even with tips, bar/food was pricey. Would stay again at the right price. Great location close to everything.

We stayed at this hotel without a recommendation - it was rated 4+ so we took a chance. We won't go back or recommend for the following reasons: 1) room was noisy - faced a busy street - heavy traffic throughout the night; 2) noisy corridors; could hear everything in the hall, got much worse about 2am each night; 3)...

We spent a night here around a concert event, and really enjoyed our stay. We liked the bar, the proximity to the Red Fox, and other places in the neighborhood. Staff was super good as well. One tip: parking is available in the neighbor hood if you want to avoid parking charges

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1946, the Lafayette has been the site of historical glamour, and offers a unique change from a typical hotel experience. Among its famous guests were Bob Hope, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner and Betty Grable. Inside, the Mississippi Ballroom took center stage where Hollywood’s stars came to dance the night away. Conveniently located to all shopping, entertainment and business areas, the historic Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows is, indeed, the best lodging choice in San Diego. ... more   less
