This is an excellent place to stay in Manteo, close to the beach but still in a really nice colonial style B&B. They serve awesome breakfasts every morning and the attentions is really good! It has a few rooms to spend some time playing boardgames or just enjoying your stay there! And the bedroom and bathroom were in great shape and super clean!
The White Doe Inn is the nicest to bed and breakfast we've ever stayed in. Landon and Megan were lovely, helpful and friendly. Our room was absolutely gorgeous with a fireplace and a clawfoot tub. The breakfast was delicious. But what I like most of all was the attention to detail. When we arrived, we were told where beer, wine, water and homemade ice cream sandwiches were. There were delicious brownies waiting for us. White Doe is the most generous B & B in which we've ever stayed. We really can't wait to return.
Just wonderful. Very short walk to waterfront Manteo. Liz is as helpful and thoughtful as she is gracious and charming. Beautiful furnished rooms and interesting architecture of the home. Four course breakfast with juices, fresh baked goodies, eggs, grits, etc. Very accommodating to dietary preferences. Pleasant neighborhood to stroll if you wish an alternative to the waterfront. Grounds allow many nooks and crannies for quiet reading. You will not be disappointed.
We booked the White Doe Inn for our anniversary. We called and left a few messages for assistance with booking a nice dinner the week prior to our arrival. We never received a return call. Upon checking in, the granddaughter of the owner was quite nice and made some suggestions for dinner, however, we would have preferred to book and plan ahead. The room was nice enough, however, we were awakened at 4:00 am by people using the extremely loud cappuccino machine outside the door to our room. It would be nice if they either moved it to another area of the hotel. At the least, they could have placed a sign requesting that it not be used at certain hours to avoid waking other guests as it sounds like a freight train outside the room. We were unable to get back to sleep as it was used several times. The breakfast included was not good. They were advised in advance (on the reservation form) that we are gluten free. The “five course” breakfast started with baked apples. Then pancakes followed by French toast and some sort of dessert, none of which I could eat outside of the apples, which were not edible. Who serves a five-course meal with mostly bread based items anyway? They offered to make me some scrambled eggs and said that was they best they could do. They brought me burnt eggs (my husband’s eggs were not burnt but definitely dry). On the way out when I stopped to drop my key at the front desk, their granddaughter had stepped away. She had the loveliest looking omelet that would have been a joy to have. It came from the same kitchen that could do nothing for us, despite the ten day notice they had that we were gluten free. For $488 for one night to not sleep or eat in this B&B is absurd. Proceed with caution.…
This should be an exceptional hotel. A beautiful exterior, walking distance to town, etc. In fairness, the very young granddaughter running the inn was courteous and tried to be helpful. The breakfast was terrible and the inn needs better cleaning. The 4-course breakfast is a joke -- 1st course was 5 or 6 TINY chunks of browning apple, a few grapes and 10 teensy rotting blueberries. The 2nd course was biscuits smothered in some greasy gravy (would have enjoyed a plain biscuit with butter & jam). The 3rd course was an inedible overcooked quiche that they had poured balsamic vinegar over (to hide its toughness?) 4th course was a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream with 4 strawberry pieces & more awful balsamic vinegar poured over it. They do offer a free glass of wine in the evening and free sugary soda beverages and ice. Evening treat is a somewhat stale cupcake.…
pros: the breakfast was delicious, with each day serving a different 4 course meal The surrounding gardens are beautiful and well maintained. The added touches (treats for all each day, plenty of drinks and water available)., and the room was beautiful and comfortable. We did not meet the owners cons: the room was very cold and there was no way to adjust the temperature All in all we would definitely stay here again
White Doe is exactly the reason I prefer some B&Bs over hotels. Personalized, but non intrusive service. Unique comfortable rooms. However, White Doe throws in gourmet 4 course breakfasts, wine and snacks in the afternoon and free access at all times to coffees, drinks, ice cream sandwiches. Easy walk to downtown Manteo and short drive to beach. The Roanoke bathroom is in need of a rehab, but overall couldn't have asked for a better home base for our first time in OBX!
We visited the White Doe Inn May 2021 - the staff and service was wonderful - the town of Manteo was just reopening but we had the most relaxing time. We decided them we would make this a yearly trip. Not sure how they did it but this trip was even more relaxing and it was elevated to a higher level. We even brought our friends for their first visit and they also will be returning. The staff all the way around was friendly and so welcoming. The Chef and team served food that was equal or better than that in a 5 star restaurant. Liz and Topanga great us each day with a smile and treated us like family not guests. We can’t wait until next year. Don’t miss the experience of this lil gem.
We had an enjoyable stay at the inn. Loved the four course breakfast, which gave us plenty of energy for the day. We got one of the trays with cheese and chocolate covered strawberries which was excellent. Happy hour was also a nice touch; As were the bikes available to guests. Liz was extremely nice. Rooms were slightly outdated but had a lot of charm. Wish the inn was a little closer to the beach as we had to drive about 20 minutes to get there.
The White Doe Inn is both beautiful and comfortable with outstanding service. Manteo is also a nice location close to the Outer Banks. White Does is highly reviewed so it sells out quickly. Suggest you book a room directly with them for the best rate and someone who can tell you about each room as well as the wonderful services they offer. Highly recommended.
