Things started to go bad at check-in, virtual check-in. There is no contact with a desk clerk. The key was issued by a kiosk. The feel of the hotel was best described as creepy. Of over 50 rooms, only about 10-15 rooms were occupied and half of the people staying at the hotel were sitting outside of their room. The room was absolutely BASIC: a bed, one chair, a chest of drawers that was not even remotely matched to the one bed-side table, and a TV. Towels and wash clothes were rough and Thin. Replacements were available if we happened to catch a cleaning lady. The handle of the sink faucet literally came off in our hand. Because there was no desk clerk, replacement bath towels were only available when we caught a cleaning lady and we had no one to report the broken sink faucet handle to.

Hotels near Kitty Hawk are expensive so we thought $149 ( with the hi tax it was 164) was probably a fair price for a place 8 miles away. When we pulled in we saw all these work trucks there so I checked the website and the rate was almost half that. when we checked in I asked the clerk why our rate was so high and he said because you booked through a 3rd party and I said well someone gave them that rate, I notice they are no longer booked through the trip advisor site. Lesson learned verify hotel rates through the hotel before booking. The room was clean and small. there is a bedside stand with 1 light and a console table on the other side with a light and clock. We could not get on the wi-fi. so I used my hot spot,The room was recently renovated but the bathroom had not been. There is no desk and I had to uplug the light and clock to plug in my electronics. If you need an inexpensive place to stay, call the hotel to book. The place is clean and not far from the attractions ,if you want the developed end of the island. We went on down toward Hatteras and stayed at a lovely place with a pool and .5 from the beach for less money.

We stayed here as a stopping point for a longer trip. The entire check-in/out process is done by touch screen computer, like some virtual third party check-in in the lobby area. When I checked in there was someone behind the counter. This is one of those old two-story style motels. The insides were redone in a way that preserved the old charm but still made it modern. The only gripe we had was the shower seemed to make a mess no matter what we did, and the fact that the room had a dehumidifier running when we went in told us we weren't the only ones that had that problem. Overall, we didn't have any real issues. No pool so the kids were a little disappointed, but we were only passing through.

We checked in mid-afternoon using the kiosk system, which printed out a room at the end of a wing on the 2nd floor. I cannot walk stairs due to multiple knee operations. When my husband asked for a first-floor room the “manager” (we think) shrugged and said there was nothing he could do. So much for ADA accommodation! When we got to the room there was a filthy dirty dehumidifier with a blinking light showing that the bucket was full. Tried to call both the front desk and housekeeping and the phone only beeps at you. Even the local phone number got no response. Then I noticed 2 bugs on the floor (thumbnail-size) that my husband killed. If you are disabled in any way DO NOT STAY HERE. The management (ha!) is unhelpful and basically non-responsive. Room is not worth $80/night let alone $180/night. STAY AWAY! The kiosk system is a joke.

Room is spotless! Like any lodging, air conditioner is loud There is a dehumidifier, which is nice, but also loud. Cars parking, leaving, people traipsing up and down stairs = noisy. Light shines in small transom window over door = bright. Bring sleep mask.

Made a reservation for 7 days, then decided I only needed 3 days. Came to the hotel lobby 4 days in advance of my reservation and made the change with the desk clerk, who assured me he had changed the reservation. The night before I was to leave town, I checked my credit card statement and found I had been billed for all seven days. Hotel has a 72 cancellation policy (beware) or you pay for the entire reservation. I changed my reservation 96 hours in advance. This hotel uses an auto check in kiosk, and they cannot do anything for you regarding billing issues through the kiosk. They did call the manager who informed them he would be here at 11:00 the next day and would deal with it then. Now I am stuck here waiting for the manager to arrive tomorrow to get this straightened out, instead of being on the road to South Dakota. The automatic kiosks for check in are terrible, it takes forever to get checked in. Will never stay here again.

The place was quiet and the room was clean. The outlet next to hairdryer was not working. We ended up having to purchase a portable hair dryer on trip because we really didn’t want to change rooms. There was a small window over our door that was a distraction at night due to the motel lights shining through window. We made a cover to put over window so we could sleep. They are trying out a new kiosk system to check in which was a little annoying. If you need anything from the front desk, make sure you let them know first thing in the morning. They do not clean room during your visit which was fine with us. All in all, I would stay here again when traveling in the area. The gentleman at the desk is very nice.

The room is large and CLEAN. It’s adorable and I love the location. There is a nice big desk for writing, tv for relaxing in front of and a fridge & microwave for snacks. If they had a pool it’s literally be perfect for the price. Anyone comparing this to a fancy hotel needs to take a deep breath and join us in reality. This is an adorable and affordable old school (but updated) motor lodge in an amazing location. The staff is great!

Years ago this place was called the Duke of Dare and was the best motel in Manteo. Times have changed. It's been redone and updated. Things look new and pretty nice. My room was a bit small, but it really didn't matter. Microwave and refrigerator worked. There was the usual small coffee maker. There was also a dehumidifier, rather unusual, which I didn't need.
