This was my first visit to the GEM. Traveling on my own I found the room, including bathroom, quite adequate. The staff was very friendly and helpful in checking my bag after checkout so I didn't need to take it with me to a meeting before leaving the city.

Well located in the Chelsea area with good connection with transport (metro). The hotel has (of course) small rooms, but they are modern, very clean and have the necessary facilities. Prices are pretty big but normal for NYC standards.

As Australians Visiting New York, we relied on our American friends for advice on a nicely designed, well located, economical hotel for our recent stay in New York, We could not have been happier. The Gem is well located at the Northern end of Chelsea - easy walking distance to Highline, Flat Iron and Empire State. Easy walk to Penn...

The Gem is perfect. It is a small boutique hotel with very friendly professional staff. Yes, the rooms are small. An issue as I do like to host friends and meet with people in my room. Rooms are basically a bed and walking line space to bathroom and window. Not much else. However, the rooms are immaculate. For me, Chelsea...

My husband and I stayed here for the first time during the 2016 holiday season. Rooms were very clean with a comfortable bed, and with our own heater/air conditioner in the room so we could control the temperature easily. We were very comfortable and warm during cold weather outside. Location was absolutely phenomenal, with the C and E trains just...

Each time we visit NYC we stay in The GEM. People ask why we don't try someplace different and we respond, "Why would we?" This hotel offers everything we need. It is centrally located, very clean, and very quiet! The train station is directly across the street and there are several reasonably priced diners within walking distance. The desk staff...

The best part of the stay was the staff. All the staff were friendly and seemed genuinely interested in helping. The rooms are cozy (as is noted in other reviews) yet modern and well-laid out. The bathrooms are particularly modern and sophisticated. I also like that the facility had a small exercise area in the basement so I could do...

Spent a couple of nights here while in NYC on work. The service was good, but the rooms very basic for the rates. This said, the hotel is very central - close to NY Penn Station and most mid-town Manhattan locations.

I stayed just one night and that was enough! All I can say is it's in Chelsea! So you have everything at your convenience: subway, Chelsea Market, Great shopping, quick pleasant walk to midtown, lovely cafe's. That said, you will be enjoying all those things because you won't want to stay in your room. I concur with other reviewers: Great...

Photos on hotel's site were extremely misleading. The room looked nothing like the photos. The room was tiny as other reviewers have said. There was no room for luggage, coats. Closet was useless, as the height of the closet was so short that anything longer than a shirt couldn't hang down. Fluorescent lighting was terrible and bed was a small...

Neighbourhood Profile
Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighbourhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighbourhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore.
