I used to live in manhattan and had been to The Jane previous for dinner at Cafe Gitane and to the hotel bar but I had no idea what was upstairs! I stayed in a single cabin and loved it! It's like stepping back in time. The room is compact but all space is optimised and you have everything you...

There are lots of bellhops in funny hats, amazingly campy decor and a calendar behind the registration desk that reads April 35. All very Wes Anderson, but the actual details of running a hotel didn't quite interest the management. Had to call the front desk four times to get towels. The big draw was the bar, with loud thumpy music...

My partner chose the Jane as my birthday treat in New York. It is really well placed on the Hudson and easy walking distance to everywhere. We averaged about 10miles a day! We were in a captains cabin room. The first one they allocated was tiny and it was Tenzin the bell hop who organised a larger room which has...

I booked a single cabin with access to a shared bathroom. It was an absolute bargain! The room was very small - the length of the single bed - but that is exactly what I expected. The hotel was great for the price - lovely bars, especially the view from the roof terrace, and a nice café. Nice staff, good...

I stayed at the Jane for three night recently, and really enjoyed it. The single rooms are tiny (which I knew), but fantastic for what you do in a hotel room in NYC - sleep! With my arms stretched out, I could touch opposite walls. The bed is a twin, which is fine. There are bars with hooks that line...

Wasn't sure what to expect as it was a budget package. The hotel has a very Art Deco theme and the staff are dressed in costume of the time. There are plenty of design 'nods' to its previous use as a seaman's hostel which added to it's charm. We had a shared double bunk room as we weren't planning to...

First off, whether you stay here or not, I recommend you drop in to see the Jane hotel...yes it's really on Jane Street right near the Whitney Museum in the meatpacking district and only a block from the Hudson. Not nearly enough space to tell the story of this hotel, so I'd say it's worth reading up on it. But...

What a thrill to hear what a good time you had and how much you appreciate our history! We did use to be a home for sailors and the Jane was a YMCA at point, though never a homeless shelter; but one of our more exciting moments of history was housing the surviving crew of the Titanic. The fountain in...

Nice hotel just of the main streets of New York, rooms small but clean and comfortable, shared bathrooms where always clean and I never had to wait to use them. Service was friendly and professional. Only down side was the heating which you couldn't control, the room was boiling hot and the air conditioning was really noisey! Price was fair...

This is a period hotel in Greenwich Village near high line. Overall, atmosphere is a bit quirky (in a good way); the staff's uniforms and lobby atmosphere are reminiscent of "Grand Budapest Hotel." We enjoyed our stay in one of the rooms w private bathroom. and were not aware of any noise from rooftop bar (bar upstairs is worth a...

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
