This is a lovely place, starting with the great location and beautiful historical building. It's a safe, nice neighbourhood, close to Central park, to Columbia University, and St John The Divine Church. There's also Starbucks, a supermarket, plenty of places to eat, all in the range of a 5-minute walk. Rooms are exactly what you would require from a hostel:...

A little far from all the main attractions in NYC like Central Park, Broadway, etc. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and have great space. They have a lot of dorms and even a cinema inside. NYC is a very expensive city and this hostel I believe is a good option for people that have budget restrictions but also...

I spent 4 nights at this great hostel on my trip to America last september. The rooms were clean, breakfast good and rather cheep and the staff friendly and very helpful. It is in a quiet area but the subway to Time Square is just a block away and the walk to Central Park is only 3 or 4 blocks....

Stayed in this hostel for 4 nights. It's location in Upper Manhattan ( 5 min to metro station and 10 min to Central Park ) is fantastic.10 bed dorm room was spacious and bunk beds were comfortable But this hostel is simply too big to socialize, to hang out. There are common areas indeed, but they always seemed to be...

This was my second time staying in this hostel (first in summer 2010 and second time in February 2014). The atmosphere and standards haven't changed at all, and I was delighted with this. The rooms are very clean, and I was happy to have a reading light and socket above bed. Free wifi. As some people have said, it's a...

I was staying in NY for a couple days. It was the 4th HI I stayed in and sadly I found it the least sociable. If I had been there for longer maybe I'd be able to socialize more with others, but it was so large and more like a proper hotel than the hostel feel. Gorgeous though!

This is a huge hostel and very old. There are loads of social areas to hang out in and meet new people. The interior needs some serious work as feels very old. The bathrooms and social areas are refurbished but not the bedrooms. They were poorly lit with bunks that were ready to fall over. It's a good location for...

The staff are also very friendly and do offer plenty of free tours and walking programs. The kitchen is outstanding...

Good value for Manhattan, although located on upper west side means the subway is necessary. Otherwise great place to meet fellow travellers, nice clean rooms and bathrooms. Wish there was a breakfast included for convinence, but the cafe they have there is more than adequate (and a couple of cute diners a short walk away!)
