My 14 year old daughter and I stayed in the back room on the second floor of this old brownstone in East Harlem. The room was clean and basic, decorated quite sparingly with restaurant themed wall decorations. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were quite thin (I actually pulled the pillowcase off my pillow and used the sham pillow... More

We stayed at the Margot GH October 1st - 5th. We loved it! Todd the owner was very helpful as is mentioned in most of the reviews. The location couldn't have been better for us at this price point. The area is cool/funky with small cafe's and bars. Short walk to the trains / subway system. Short walk to the... More

MGH is standard housing in a substantial old building: nothing fancy, thin bed pillows, thinner [one-ply] toilet paper, and a tiny TV. Daily maid service is not provided. Not a B&B, because breakfast is not served, though a microwave, coffee supplies, and a small refrigerator are provided. This 3-story row house is located on busy Lexington Avenue in East Harlem,... Margot Guest House is a great value for NYC lodging. It’s worlds better than overpriced chains. It’s in a safe, relatively quiet (for NYC) neighborhood with good restaurants & easy access to Central Park, etc. The owner was helpful & available by text during our stay. The premises are clean. The beds were comfortable (not too hard, yay!). The sheets... More

The host is very kind and the location (in Upper East Side of Manhattan) is well served by public transport. A good stay for a week to visit NYC. Rooms have all the amenities and an acctractive design. I recommend it to everybody.

I spent 2 weeks here and didn't want to leave! I still want to go back, I loved the area. Being more of a non-tourist, I wanted to spend time in a neighborhood rather than the city center of hustle and bustle. This place was perfect. Felt like I really lived in East Harlem for a while, the area is... More

Staying at Margot Guest House gives you an opportunity to spend time in an authentic neighborhood in the Upper East Side of Manhattan - much more interesting than a clinical hotel experience! This place is simply perfect, we stayed 4 nights, we slept very well (perfect mattress) and we had all the amenities in our room. It was like being in a french house somewhere in Paris. The location is kind of nice, because it's close to the subway, north Central Park and East Harlem; the owner is kind of nice, but charged us more than the $ 60 for our late arrival without ever saying why; the room is kind of nice, but we stayed for 9 nights and the sheets were never changed; the decoration... This is a great place to stay if you want to experience living in New York! It's uptown but close to the subway and there are lots of places to eat nearby. “On three stays this year, I've stayed in two rooms : Room 1 (first floor in front/on the street) and Room 2 (first floor in back/overlooking the gardens). Both rooms are large & sunny & beautiful. I loved them both. It's true that Room 1 gets some street noise (& even a little rumble from the subway trains coming from the Lower Depths) (the price of the room—an amazing value, really—reflects this), but sounds didn't bother me—especially after the first night. On the contrary, I came to enjoy the bustle, loved watching life on the street from my large windows, & at night, in my big loft bed (perched thoughtfully at the very back-end of the room above the bathroom!) even if I heard a little noise or felt a little rumble, it made me feel very much that I was fully a part of this big, wonderful city!”
