Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
I almost never write reviews but my experience here was so good that I felt compelled to write. I’ve been at many Holiday Inn Express hotels in the past and they’ve been ok at best so I wasn’t expecting much with this one but the price was very reasonable for a Manhattan hotel. Well, don’t be like me and let the name fool you. This is not just an excellent Holiday Inn Express, but an excellent hotel - period, especially for the price and location
The room was more spacious than any other Manhattan hotel I’ve stayed at for the same price point and even for more expensive ones. My wife as I had king-sized bed and still the room never felt cramped. Theirs is also a small couch for sitting with a moveable table. The TV is HUGE, a plus if you bring along the kids or want to watch a movie. Also, there are more electric outlets than I’ve seen in even the fanciest hotel rooms, which is a real plus with many devices to charge. Plus SIX USB outlets! A radio-alarm clock and a whisper quiet HEAT/AC UNIT complete the setup. Bathroom is also a little larger than most.
Free breakfast was more than adequate with attendants who actually cleaned tables and replaced food when needed. Nice and light and airy.
Outside patio was s nice bonus to sit at and covered well to keep rain out.
All in all a very nice surprise, especially given the price and location. One of the front desk staff told me that recently there was a change in GM and upgrades followed with more planned. All I can say is well done!

Good location, comfortable clean rooms. Most staff polite. Breakfast nice choices but never enough tables to sit at. People stood & waited for a table. Booked two rooms for us and our two sons 22 & 16. Both next to each other thank you. Noticed my sons front door was terribly bowed from handle to top with a 1cm gap allowing sound from lifts opposite to enter room. Doors closed with a bang at all times of am & pm.... was rather miffed at noisy people slamming doors till I realised they had to be slammed shut to fully close. First night we all unpacked into drawers & wardrobes as we had 5nights stay. Then late into the night when all was quiet we heard a constant banging in roof of our bathroom. Strange we thought when we were in room 1516 on top floor. When bathroom door was closed & we put a towel at bottom the banging was muffled & being from the Uk & shattered we slept ok (as your midnight was our 5am) this noise continued for our whole stay & despite telling reception & they having maintenance look into it we were told they had ‘no idea’ where it was coming from. We even had a maintenance man in our room at 9pm when we asked again what the noise was. We were offered to move but the inconvenience of moving & packing up & not being next to our boys would have been worse than the aggravation of this noise whilst in the bathroom which was annoying. The next day this maintenance man just shrugged his shoulders & said no idea! I’ll leave a video of the noise. (I cannot leave a video I’ve tried!! If anyone knows how I can let me know) The cold coming from the windows made the room feel very cold & the heat when put on made it too hot within minutes. So i plumped for putting bath towels on the window sill which seemed to somewhat stop the draft at night. The beds were comfortable & the rooms were clean. I just don’t suggest staying in room 1516 or there abouts because of this noise. The reception staff were polite & adjusted our bill slightly because of this annoyance which we were grateful that they at least acknowledged we had a problem. The hotel is in a good position. Maybe you could extend your breakfast area to accommodate all guests to be able to sit at tables for breakfast.

We stayed in this hotel end of december for 3 nights. The king size bed room was pretty small but then this is Manhattan. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. There is complimentary breakfast available which is quite good but finding a vacant table is very difficult. We needed a printout and the hotel staff directed us to there business center. We wasted 2 hours in trying to get the computer to work and no hotel staff was available nearby who knew how to fix it. We could see others also struggling with the computers. Other than this one of the elevators had an issue and scared us a couple of times when it wouldnt open with people jam packed inside. On the positive side location is excellent with tourist hot spots like times square, empire state building and Fifth avenue nearby within walking distance. Subway is also stone throw away along with Penn station. This helps since Uber can be very expensive in New York. We have stayed in Holiday Inns before and this is pretty much the same standard other than the couple of issues i mentioned above.

I recently stayed three nights at this hotel hoping to avoid times square area with kids. I was awoken at 6am one morning to boom boom. The hotel fails to mention anywhere on their website that there is construction going on right next door to the hotel. I stayed on the 12th floor and it was horrible. The guy at the desk offered to move me to the other side of the 12th floor but I could still hear loud drilling outside the window. Also it says newly renovated the room I had as platinum elite member had scratches on the dresser and wardrobe no way did it look renovated. to my dismay I soon found out there’s no fridge in the rooms unless you pay extra $25 and get lucky that one is available. I was looking for an ice machine since there was no fridge the guy at the front desk told me there is no ice machines on any of the floors only in the lobby which seemed crazy to me considering they don’t provide a fridge in any of rooms. Rooms are small no upgrades here. They are still serving covid breakfast here which consist of only two choices of cereal a bagel, toast, muffins and fruit bars. the drink machines has out of order signs on them. They had these little small 4 oz child like orange and apple juices you would put in a kids lunch for school. No hot breakfast at all. No housekeeping had to go to the front desk to ask for towels and wash clothes. They didn’t come take out the trash. I had to track down one of the housekeepers. I didn’t enjoy my stay at all so many amenities you usually get at a holiday inn express were missing here at this location. Only bright spot it was pretty easy to get around from this location and room rates were good for New York.

Its 4:30pm and the room has not been cleaned. When calling housekeeping, a recording informs they operate until 4pm only. Then I receive a call back just to inform me that this hotel is not cleaning occupied rooms, only vacant ones. But they are charging $20/day/room as “destination fee”. Wow! Also, during the Coronavirus pandemic, there is no hand sanitizer/antibacterial wipes in the breakfast area.

Hotel is ok but... if you ever wondered where the garbage patch in the middle of the ocean comes from, this is a good candidate. Every guest gets a plastic water bottle each day, everything in the breakfast buffet is either plastic (forks, knives, spoons, cups) or wrapped in plastic. Would it kill you to wash a mug every once in a while? Because you're certainly killing the planet. Also, you better be vaccinated, because breakfast time is like that scene from the hunger games, good luck social distancing while elbowing your way to the plastic wrapped bagels.

I normally wouldn’t think of calling a Holiday Inn Express as a “gem” but there were so many qualities we loved about this hotel that would make us come here again. First and foremost is the service and professionalism of all the staff we met; from the Front Desk personnel to housekeeping. The attendants at the breakfast area did a tremendous job in keeping the area neat and presentable; they also kept up with bringing out new trays of food to keep up with demand…it was very busy the three days we were there! No surprise that the rooms are small, but ours was large enough for a work desk and club chair. Heating was adequate, WiFi connection was very good, comfortable mattress; room has a safe, good size bathroom and vanity; very good shower water pressure and no issues with hot water. Room was clean as were the common areas. Some “dings and dents” on corners. Great location; many good places to eat within walking distance or short ride-share rides. We thought the value of staying here was high

This hotel charged extra 70$ off my credits card for parking fees. Their makemytrip page mentions that they offer free parking but they didn’t. They threatened us to charge 130+ and then reduced their price to charge us 70$. I paid the hotel in full while booking and those extra charges were simply not acceptable. Their bathrooms stink and they don’t even have proper identity verification process for anyone in hotel. Fwiw, we just told our name and they gave us our room keys without even confirming our identities. I am never going to stay here again.

This was my first stay since the onset of the pandemic. I was delighted to find that my stay was pleasant and provided me with a safe living environment. The Holiday Inn Express New York City - Chelsea staff Kelvin was very helpful in getting me into my room and seeing to it that the things I requested (i.e., a refrigerator and additional drinking water) were brought, promptly, for my room. I felt safe and secure in the wake of the Covid-19 virus. Once again, I had all the things I needed to live comfortably while I conducted my business over several days. Thank you for being open and functioning at a high standard of operation.

Just stayed here for 3 nights with my husband. We had a great stay. We arrived on Thursday morning to the hotel around 11 am. We were happy to be told our room was ready and available. We quickly changed and took off to see the sights. This hotel is about 1 block from the 28th street (1) station. From there we could get anywhere we needed to go. There are lots of pizza places, convenience stores, etc just around the corner from the hotel.
Our room was a king room, it was small, but that's New York. It was enough room for the two of us. The hotel has breakfast every morning, and it was good and plentiful. We were delighted to see a note and complimentary snacks left for us in our room from housekeeping- it was a very nice touch. The hotel had a nice little outdoor patio area by the front door. The hotel did charge a $150 room deposit, which was refunded when we checked out. I highly recommend this location. We went up to Yankee Stadium one night, Brooklyn- Barclay's another night, and to a show at time square. Took local subway transportation the whole time. It was very easy. I recommend the unlimited subway pass if you are intown for several days and plan on moving around all over. This was a great way to go.

Hello MichaelOaks-
We've got our free Express Start Breakfast with Grab 'n' Go options to help kick start your day. There are several options within walking distance of the property. I would Google "breakfast near me" to make sure that the outlet is open.
Thanks,
