Loved everything about this hotel. Half block from subway, Central Park, right across the street from Museum and Planetarium. Lots of dogs and babies, great residential neighborhood, tons of restaurants (expensive, but it's New York). We felt extremely safe (lived on Upper West Side in 1950s when it was dangerous and scary but beautifully gentrified today). Beautiful, spacious bedroom and... More

Wonderful hotel for remarkably reasonable price, right across street from Central Park on upper west side. Rooms small but higher rooms on park side have great views. Clean, beautiful tiled bathrooms. Feels both elegant and friendly. Subway just a block away. All in all, the perfect place from which to enjoy this great city!

We stayed 2 nights as part of an Archers tour at the end of September. It was a lovely room with 2 double beds. There was no coffee making facilities unfortunately but there are a number of coffee shops close by. The hotel is directly across from the Natural History museum which is well worth a visit and very close... More

We liked this hotel in March and we still like it in October. Pleasant, helpful staff, nice, comfortable room. Bathroom small, but super clean. Love the library where the breakfast buffet is presented. Only fault is --no coffee maker or small refrigerator in room.

This is a great base for exploring New York. Located on the Upper West Side next to Central Park, it is close to the 81st Street Subway. 79th Street is also convenient, although it is a few minutes further away. Our room was pleasant and benefitted from a park and city view. The staff were very pleasant and helpful at... More

The Excelsior is one of the very few hotels on Manhattan's upper West Side. It's also a good, if not cheap, one. The rooms are reasonably sized by NYC standards, many have views of the Museum park, and all seem to be have been recently renovated. The breakfast buffet is quite nice and reasonably priced. The fitness center is adequate.... More

Convenient comfortable hotel for the sights and sounds of NYC, to save a few dollars at breakfast try Lenny's deli, come out of the hotel turn right, down to the bottom of the street turn right again and it's 2 blocks along on the right, very basic but hits the spot with good coffee.

I thought the location of this hotel was fantastic in relation to using the Subway (used 79th and Broadway stop) and situated close enough to downtown Manhattan to explore but far enough away where sleeping at night was not a problem. Central Park is literally just down the road and you can walk anywhere you want to go from the... More
