We enjoyed our stay in the Barclay. It was very quiet, we only really saw a few people in the lobby when we walked through it each day. Corridors were quiet and we never heard any noise from outside the room. Bed was comfortable and room amenities were good. Could have done with more milk and tea rather than coffee,...

Booked this hotel as part of a British airways package deal for 5 days and all I can say is wow! From the minute you walk in you are stunned by the exquisite decor and the friendliness of the staff. We were fortunate to be upgraded and had a room on the 9th Floor. We had no issues with noise...

Really well located and gorgeous hotel. Close to all the shopping and to Central Park, as well as the green line subway line. You can go to Brooklyn in about 10-15 minutes! The staff is so sweet and helpful, both in the Gin parlour and at the desk. The hotel is newly decorated so it feels (and smells:)) really fresh....

In the lobby of The Intercontinental it has the best Gin and Tonic in the city most notably because they distill their own tonic water at the bar. The staff is friendly and attentive. If you are feeling hungry at the bar I recommend the mini grilled cheese with gruyere and the Scotch Olives!

Dear russlb2017, Thank you for your kind review. We are thrilled that you enjoyed the Gin Parlour. We do make our own tonic and vermouth on property, which gives us an opportunity to make interesting drinks and be more sustainable (less waste and carbon footprint). I agree - the grilled cheese is amazing! We hope to see you at the...

Having been a regular visitor to New York for many years I have stayed in lots of hotels, from modern, trendy to old school and tatty. I was looking forward to seeing the Intercontinental Barclay having stayed there many years ago when it was in dire need of some TLC. I was impressed. They have renovated this Grande Dame of...

Just a really nice hotel with comfy furnishings and super nice staff. Location is awesome at 48 and Park. Close to the subway, cabs always around, and a 15 min walk to most attractions (or same in cab). There IS tea in the room but it's in a Keurig cup so pp didn't know what it was. Coffee too. Very...

Was great going back to The Barclay after so many years and a completed renovation. Nice welcome, early check in and staff was on point with all the details of my reservations. Up to the room - Awesome and spotless. Bed was so comfortable, room was big for NY Standard and the bathroom and shower was awesome. Tons of outlets...

This hotel is located only a couple of blocks from the subway--a few blocks from 5th Avenue and Rockefeller Plaza. The beds were very comfy--we slept great every night. The staff were excellent as well--Tea Ferrari in concierge went out of her way to help me package some artwork I purchased to safely get it home.

This was a nice hotel. Clean and modern. Sometimes its the little things that draw your attention. Great location and the doorman, Angel was great. A few details worth noting: Tea drinkers are out of luck, none in the room. Bath robes need an upgrade and the climate control is in need of an upgrade as well.

The other half and I stayed here for a night this weekend when we were in town for the opera. We've stayed at the Intercontinental in Times Square several times and whilst nice, The Barclay is a much more beautiful property in a much more peaceful location. The refurbishment was a huge success as the lobby and guest rooms are...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since first opening its doors in 1926, the InterContinental New York Barclay has welcomed countless guests to enjoy a luxurious residential-style experience in the heart of the city. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay became one of four notable railroad hotels built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. Its convenient location, directly above the railroad tracks, permitted the hotel the unique distinction of having its own platform in the basement, ideal for the upscale rail traveler who occasionally arrived by private train car. In addition to its Midtown East location, the hotel made an immediate impact with tenants and critics alike for its characteristic atmosphere of comfort and elegant domesticity. From that moment, The Barclay began to write its history as the hotel of choice for those looking to take respite in this stately residential hotel of international prestige. Today, the InterContinental New York Barclay remains Manhattan’s preeminent luxury hotel after undergoing the most ambitious restoration in its history. Combining sophistication and contemporary design, while staying true to its original Federalist style details, The Barclay exudes confidence and warmth, delivering the same residential feel with modern comfort and flexibility introduced to the world in 1926. ... more   less
