I think the first indication that this was not a four star establishment, as our travel agent had assured us, came as we entered the Lobby of the Outlook... umm sorry, I mean the Stewart Hotel. Although quite grand, the gloomy lighting and dated decor gave an instant sense of walking into a horror movie and I suppose this wasn't too far from the truth. The first room on the seventh floor could be described at best as a room normally booked on an hourly basis, The walls were dirty, the carpet somewhat threadbare and the kettle looked like someone had just boiled their underpants in them. One quick complaint later and we were moved to a bigger room higher up (although not before I was threatened by a twelve year old kid in the lift who threatened to "slap the **** out of me" - I'm not sure what that meant but it didn't sound good, even though I laughed), I forget the room number, but that's just as well, the dirty sofa's and benches were overshadowed by the black stains on the carpet (Blood... Maybe?), I half expected to walk into the bedroom and see a chalk outline of a corpse on the floor and "Redrum" written on the back of the door. Interestingly all the blinds were shut in the room, I did wonder why until I opened one and was confronted by the naked guy in the room opposite (same hotel). All in all, not a great place to stay, however in it's defence, the staff were very nice and extremely helpful... they should apply for jobs in better hotels.

Hotel's Favourite
I had the upmost pleasure to do my check in process with the wonderful Danielle and Andrew. I am 25 years old visiting New York City for the first time all by myself. After a long day of flying and trying to figure out how to get to the hotel, at the check in process there was a problem with my credit card. To say that I was feeling terrified is The understatement of the year. Not only did Andrew and Danielle were understanding and extremely patient with me, they gave me a discount on the price AND upgraded me to a bigger room free of charge. To the manager of to fine establishment, name those two employees of the year and give them a raise!!! I have another trip planned for the end of the year with a bunch of friends and I am DEFINITELY going to stay at the Stewart Hotel just because the customer service Danielle and Andrew provided me was the best I’ve ever experienced! 10 out of 10 will be back again!!

Amazing location close to great restaurants & shopping. Friendly & service oriented staff, always ready & happy to assist. When departing there was delay in retrieving vehicle from valet parking due to staff shortage. Hotel Manager took accountability personally stepping in to resolve issue, ensuring priority with parking staff and resolve in timely manner.

Arrived 22/06. Our room was simply disgusting. Specifically, Bathroom: 1) Hairs on walls from previous occupiers. 2) Shower curtain dirty. 3) Used q-tip left on damaged shelves. 4) Sink and surround damaged. 5) Dirt in tile grouting. Bedroom: 1) Bed sheets didn’t appear ironed and dirty. 2) Marked walls and stained carpet throughout. 3) Very dirty air conditioner and cabling. 4) Window sill dirty and dusty. 5) Carpet ripped in places. 6) Damaged lighting fixtures. This was not what we had paid for. Receptionist was not helpful. We contacted our travel agent and booked another hotel whilst in the Stewart lobby. An awful experience. Minimal guest care. Dirty and dusty. Avoid at all costs. Pictures attached.

I will start with the Good - Lobby very nice great expectations. Lifts very nice. Double beds clean. Towels clean. Bad - Forty dollar per day tourist tax, corridor on bedroom floor very dark, hall carpet dirty and stained. Windows in room face other windows, A/C unit leaves window open to horrible road noise all night. Strange door to somewhere unknown. Bathroom old fashioned, tired, moldy bath. Tiles dirty between. I found this hotel not up to my standards or expectations. This is what we found good luck if you book this hotel.

The room was in need of a deep clean. Stains on the walls, carpets, furniture, and window coverings. The toilet seat was broken, giant chips in the tub, bath plumbing fixtures were broken and big holes in the floor under the carpet in a few spots. The linens looked clean and the basic surfaces had been wiped down but any deep or detailed cleaning isn’t happening. The guy who checked me in was great but I had to go back twice because my room key stopped working and both times the staff was rather rude. The room size and kitchen were the reason I booked as I has friends come visit me at the hotel as opposed to going out but next time, we will go out. Not staying here again.

We stayed for 5 nights, and had a number of little things that made our stay experience less than satisfactory. Here you go: - upon arrival at 7:00 PM we were told our room was not ready because of no towels, we wanted access anyway but was denied. Asked to come back in an hour. - Upon returning still had to wait an additional hour, still no towels. When we got to our room, there were some towels, but asked for additional - they never came. - We asked for extra pillows, were told they didnt have any extras- WTF? no more pillows? disappointing. - Next evening we asked for a pillow case for one of the pillows - had to wait 2.5 hours before it came after calling down again. - the air conditioner was very noisy and rattled when in use. - the TV cable was glitchy and froze while watching sports and shows.- disappointing - the kitchen light did not work all of the time. another disappointment - the front door staff was very helpful in assisting wheelchair entry in the side door. - the elevator from the side door (wheelchair) entry stopped working one day, so we had to use the service elevator from the basement, passed the garbage and laundry bins, functional, but not pleasant. I have stayed in a lot of hotels, but the issues faced at this property compounded to make the stay not enjoyable. Unless you are getting a fantastic price, the experience does not justify the cost.

I love this hotel -it is stunning - the history you can see in the building is beautiful and would recommend. The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept in- much appreciated after busy sight seeing days . location is perfect as central to all the tourist bits . Staff have been so helpful and polite. We were super lucky to have a free room upgrade . If I am lucky enough to come to New York again - I would definitely book the Stewart hotel.

Location is great. I was on the 28th floor - didn't match the pictures. Room was not ready on time, not even 2 hours after checkin. TV was additional ($$$) No soap, poor decor. Door staff/Concierge very nice Need to upgrade to a real 4*.

Although the staff was excellent and responsive to our needs, the Stewart Hotel itself needs some MAJOR love. The rooms are dilapidated and in sad condition. We were originally given a room that was out of a horror film - the room was filthy, dated; we felt disgusted. We were moved to another room that was bigger, and had actually been clean. The overall condition of the furniture was poor...almost like the hotel management decided to raid the local not-so-gently use furniture store. Also, the room did not have a piece of furniture that had draws for clothing...something that helps when staying in the hotel for five nights. Additionally, the bathroom was gross. Worn down and peeling paint on the ceiling, with a shower "stall" that an average-sized person could not move around in. DO NOT LET THE PICTURES FOOL YOU
