Location is great, near all NYC attractions, only a short walk to reach Times Square and the Theatre district. The property is a must, and old building and historic one, but reciently renovated. The rooms are really cozy ..and public areas too. Matilda will receive you every morning. Personal and concierge helps a lot in all your needs. The hotel...

I had a non-refundable rate for the Algonquin through hotwire for 4/14/13-4/15/13. I had all the confirmation paperwork when I went to check-in. I would rate this hotel a 0 as they welcomed me to there wonderful hotel but were very sorry they had no room and my partner and I had to "walk" to another hotel carrying our bags....

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience at The Algonquin Hotel. We apologize for the inconvenience you were caused by having to relocate to another property upon your arrival. This is not something common for a hotel and the hotel always does its best to avoid this uncomfortable situation. At times certain unforeseeable circumstances occur where it is necessary...

The Algonquin has a storied past as being a place where writers would get together and meet/drink/write. The hotel lobby is nicely renovated and clearly a high-end hotel. It is connected to a bar called Blue Bar that serves high-priced drinks (might avoid unless your bankroll is big). The rooms are nicely decorated and the bed was super comfortable. The...

If you don't have any interest in New York history, stay elsewhere. This hotel is all about a long gone era of intellectuals, creators and authors coming together for fun and inspiration - what an exciting time it must have been. I stayed here 30 years ago and was pleased to see the renovations which have certainly improved the property...

My wife and I chose the Algonquin because of the history and we were not disappointed. The hotel was like an oasis of calm elegance from The bustle of Times Square and 5th Ave. The staff were very friendly they took time to talk with us and help us with any questions we might have had. We found the room....

We live close enough to NYC to just drive up for an afternoon/evening however, one day my husband, being the history buff that he is, revealed that he had always wanted to stay at the Algonquin. Okay, maybe it's now a Marriott, but he wanted to be in the atmosphere of some of his favorite people from the past. We...

The hotel has a charming old world feel that has not changed since Marriott bought it. It is centrally located and the rooms are comfortable albeit small. It is conveniently located without being in the midst of the time square crowds.

I was well aware of the history of this NYC landmark and was looking forward to the warm and rich retreat it offers in the crazy-busy Times Square part of town. The renovations Marriott has made are classically tasteful and still true to the feel of the Algonquin's past. The staff were kind, generous and very professional. They made me...

I have wanted to stay at the Algonquin for quite some time and when the opportunity finally came, I was not disappointed! The lobby is spectacular and the rooms, albeit small (but it is NYC!) were spotlessly clean, comfortable, cozy and lovely. The bed was delightful and the shower was great. I was getting over a cold while I was...

So ... I cannot say I share others' enthusiasm for this hotel, but it might be because I am still in mourning over the Oak Room, the wonderful caberet/supper club it once housed. When we lived in NYC, we saw everyone from Steve Ross to Julie Wilson to Andrea Marcovicci perform there. Marriott closed it a little over a year...

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
