Five star situation. Rooms are small and men's shared bathroom is basic and outdated. Recommend the chowder but mussels not the best and mine were cold and had to go back to be reheated. Creme Brûlée was poor.
Had dinner last night at Captain will Whidbey Inn on Whidbey Island. What a delightful pristine setting. Beautiful grounds all around. Delicious meal. Friendly waitress. Could not have been better! We will definitely be returning, and hope to stay in one of their rooms next...More
My husband and I are in our 60s and actually like rustic (we camp with our horses, so an actual mattress is a luxury), however, the rooms we stayed in at Captain Whidbey Inn are more run down (deferred maintenance) than charmingly rustic. To us,...More
It's been 15 years since I've been here & I was hoping it hadn't changed! I was pleasantly surprised by the changes of gardens & tranquility we enjoyed.

The chowder is a must! Our meal was delectable from the chowder to the cobbler. Our daughter loved eating edible flowers.
The location is beautiful. If we find ourselves near Coupeville again we will definitely be dining here.

I am sorry your experience at Captain Whidbey was so dismal. I don't know what question you would like me to answer, other than the fact that obviously our experience was different. I am on a diet, so when we eat out (especially when we don't have a refrigerator for leftovers) we usually just get appetizers where we can control the portions. We enjoyed ours very much. We stayed at the inn prior to peak tourist season when the weather was cooler and there were no fruit flies to pester us. The lodge was hosting a wedding, so things were busy over there. Regardless, our needs were met. (Our amenities worked fine at the time and we had no need to contact the front desk once we were in the room.) That being said, I would certainly also be upset, if our experience had been like yours.
