Overall Rating: 77/100 (7.7/10) Class of Room Booked: King Class of Room Stayed: King Price per night (with taxes): $220 (Prepaid Rate) The Quick Hits: Would I stay here again? Depends on Plans Value rating based on price paid: Good The Details: Hotel Design Location and Layout: Location (7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – The key to this hotel is what you are planning to do in Philly. If you are attending something in the convention center, especially in the winter, its a no-brainer, because of the direct indoor connection to the great hall. If you have plans all over the city, its a good central location, between the museum and historical areas, plus right across from Reading Terminal Market and near Chinatown. Some people feel the convention center area gets a little desolate at night, which can be true especially when no events going on. One note is that it is very convenient to Jefferson station on the Market Frankford and various regional rail lines. Hotel Lobby/Common Areas(7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – Clean, brightly lit and spacious with plenty of seating. Hotel Amenities(8/10 – Met expectations) – One item of note is the hotel pool. Very few venues in Philly have a pool at all, let alone an indoor pool. There is also a FedEx Office business center, a Starbucks in the lobby, and all other expected business hotel features. COVID Special Section (7.5/10 - Met Expectations) - All staff properly masked in close contact areas. Surfaces cleaned frequently. Hand sanitizer stations available and full. Room: Design and Layout (7.5/10 – Met expectations) – Rooms are the standard Marriott design circa early 2000s. Plenty of storage and room to move. Comfort(8/10 – Met expectations) – Very comfortable bed and in a rarity the temperature control actually kept the room to the set temp. Nice comfortable side chair with ottoman, too. Condition(6.5/10 – Did Not Meet Expectations) – This was a mixed bag. The bathroom looked like a recent refurb, very clean and modern. But in the main room, the rack in the closet was barely held on to the wall (reported to housekeeping - did not expect it fixed on a weekend), and the furniture had quite a few dings and dents. Amenities(7.5/10 – Met Expectations) – They have moved to the now ubiquitous dispenser model but at least each item was separate (I don't mind the large dispensers, but I hate ShampBodyWashDitioner). Plenty of towels. Large cold fridge, large safe, coffee maker, etc. Staff: Front Desk/Service(7.5/10 – Exceeded Expectations) – Friendly greeting, quick check in. Housekeeping (NA) - Due to the current staffing situation brought on by COVID, the hotel is only offering limited housekeeping and I declined for the short stay. Other Staff (9/10 - Exceeded Expectations) - Having stayed at this hotel prior, and even run events there some decades ago, one of the standout aspects of this hotel always seem to be the bell staff. Always fast to respond, super efficient, and treat your belongings with care. Food Service: Paid Dining: Restaurant/Cafe (8.5/10 - Exceeded Expectations) – They just opened a new market in the lobby. Yes, it's pricey, especially for some items, but it provides a much needed quick casual option in the hotel (especially after Reading Terminal Market closes). The hot items I had were tasty (they are pre-made and heated to order in convection ovens for the sandwiches) and decent portion for the price, same for the salads. Room Service(NA) - Complimentary Dining: Breakfast/Reception (NA) - Other Areas: Frequent Traveler Program: (Applicable Status) - Bonvoy Gold - No Upgrade (did not expect since event was at convention center and hotel was almost totally booked) Club/Lounge (NA) - Special Perks(bonus point) - Other: Internet Speed Test Results (from Room via Oookla): Forgot to test, sorry Family Friendly: Not specifically except for the pool. Pet Friendly: Unknown Notes/Summary: Location, Location, Location. Need a convention or centrally located hotel? This is a great option. But if you are planning on focusing on either the historic or museum/rittenhouse areas there are equal or better properties that will mean less walking or travel. About my system - All scores are based on expectations, where 7.5 = met expectations, 10 is highly exceeded, and 1, well, something went horribly wrong. Expectations take into account a number of factors, such as price paid, brand, and location. They will vary greatly from the Waldorf Astoria to a Super 8. All scores are averaged and translated to a score out of 10. 1 Trip Advisor dot applies for each 2 points, so 4 dots is the most likely scenario. SPECIAL NOTE - Obviously the hotel industry has been going thru and continues to experience a very challenging environment due to COVID. Staffing is an obvious concern and my expectations reflect that, however I have also increased expectations on common area cleaning, etc.

This is honestly a 3-star experience. Beds are ok, pillows are small. Shower could be cleaner. There were some black specks in the bathroom/dust in the room. The most aggravating part of staying here is trying to get to the actual hotel, most streets are not accessible and its a little dangerous at night trying to trek around. They really need to put security and open the other side. The downstairs parcels and restaurants are closed/out of business probably due to COVID-19. The hotel concierge was excellent, if it was just guest relations - this would be 4 or 5 stars.

I really liked this hotel --- but three things stand out as strong negatives among a sea of positives. The worst: at 9:50 AM as I was getting out of the shower, I was startled by a sharp knock on the door that frightened me. It was housekeeping with a clipboard saying, “Checking on you to see when you’re leaving.” WHAT?? I said, “Isn’t check at 11?” and they said “Yes we just check to see the people that are staying.” and I said “I’m not staying -- I’m leaving at 11.”And they said OK and left. In all my years of traveling I never had a maid knocking on my door more than an hour before check out asking me what my status is, especially after I was offered a late check out which I would have needed had my business meeting run into the middle of the night. In which case I would have been asleep and really angry. Marriott---?? Is this a new, but bad, policy?? Meantime, efficient front desk, soap in the shower is amazing, room features are perfect, from temperature to bedding to pillows to room black out curtains. Ask for high view to see the water. Waiter Edward at the open bar/restaurant in the lobby is a fabulous and very attentive waiter who actually took our order and saved us a table as we ran up to drop off suitcases and freshen up. Which leads me to the second improvement needed: bathroom towels are so stiff and rough that they can stand up on their own. Maybe there’s too much detergent in the water? Or bleach? Every towel was like this. And disappointing that the concierge lounge is "under renovation" --- the excuse given for many executive floors --- isn't it time to reopen these after COVID like the restaurants?

I usually like staying at Marriott business hotels (not necessarily all the other properties in their brand). I spent four nights here while attending a conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. As advertised, it was a recently remodeled hotel but I think that they forgot about the elevators--they were very noisy and it was a little scary to ride in them, kind of like the Disney California Tower of Terror. In addition, my self-check in using the app on my cellphone did not work so I had to use a physical keycard. Finally, you had to call each day you wanted maid service. I did the third day of my stay and the maid came in, emptied my wastebaskets and made my bed (which I had pretty much straightened up anyway). Dirty and wet towels and washcloths were left on the tub floor! If they spent five minutes in the room I would be very surprised! This was the second bad housekeeping experience at a Marriott business hotel in two months. On the plus, my other interactions with the staff, especially the concierge and bellman, were quite good. The Bonvoy provided wireless access worked fine and my room did not seem small or cramped.

Great work visit - connected to the convention center. Easy walk each morning. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful with local dining options. Walking distance to restaurants and bars. All very close and safe to visit. Famous Cheesesteaks are a cab ride - over still a great location
