The Philadelphia Marriott Downtown garners mixed reviews with its central location earning praise from many visitors for being ideal for business and sightseeing. While the comfort and spaciousness of the rooms are highlighted, guests have called out issues related to maintenance and service inconsistencies. Some travelers find the atmosphere vibrant, though it comes with the downside of noise. The hotel's amenities and cleanliness generally meet expectations, yet some reviewers warn of outdated facilities and subpar housekeeping. Furthermore, the value for money is a point of contention among guests, with many feeling it falls short.

On a quick weekend getaway from the wives, a buddy of mine and I found this cheap, which is rare given that it's downtown Philly and all. It's across the street from Reading Terminal, a great location for food and local grocery. But that's not what this review is for.

This Marriott takes up the entire block between 12 and 13 streets and between Market Street and Filbert Street. The lobby was under construction but was still bustling with activity. There was another bar on the side but I did not dine there.

The front desk is quite standard but definitely reflects the finesse of the rest of the building. We were checked in by Michael who promptly found me an upgraded high floor corner room. He apologized for the construction and thanked me for my Platinum status. Then he checked with me about my welcome amenity and then the only complaint(among a cacophony of other voices in other reviews) I had about this location, which is that on weekends the concierge lounge is closed and instead of the standard breakfast voucher was offered a measly 1000 points. This is definitely a dim spot in an otherwise bright screen. All this is no fault of Michael who was very professional and friendly through the interaction.

We were given a top floor room by the elevator with a SPECTACULAR view. That view you will see in my pictures. The room is very standard, not to say it was bad, just nothing to wow at. Soft beds and sheets, regular bathroom. Fast Internet, streaming services and free HBO go. Also, has Hdmi connections for you laptop movie watchers.

All in all, a good stay for the price, if I paid the usual prices, the loss of the concierge lounge followed with the measly replacement would have been more frustrating. Ultimately, the beautiful view from our room and the convenience of the location balances out the negative point. If the price is right, the location is great.

On a side note, Reading Terminal, Philadelphia City Hall, Chinatown and Independence Hall are within walking distance. So food and entertainment are all conveniently close by.

This is again closer to 3.5 stars out of 5.
I had a reasonable stay here but it could have been better. The hotel is under renovation so there is some amount of noise. It is a large hotel and is fully packed with people. The checkin took like 20-25 mins and we were not upgraded.
The rooms are supposed to be new but there are many scratches and cracks in the mirror and painting frames. Maintenance is definitely an issue which is best characterized by the ‘M’ in the Marriott lighting not working.
Rooms are clean and decently sized. Views are really good, especially from the higher floors. The air conditioning could be better though since the heating was not enough in the cold nights.
There is no free breakfast but this is remedied by the presence of a Starbucks inside the hotel itself!
The location is amazing, walking distance from the city hall and One Liberty tower and observation deck. There are plenty of restaurants around (Maggiano’s Little Italy, Chillis and Dukin are literally next door). The hotel is attached to the convention center via a bridge from the second floor. This made it especially easy for me to visit the 2020 Philadelphia Auto Show!
Overall, even though my stay was reasonable, I had a much better experience in their sister hotel - the Notary Hotel - Autograph Collection (it was the Courtyard by Marriott when I had stayed there) which is located right next to this hotel and would prefer that property to this one.

I stayed at this hotel when attending a convention. I checked in from my app and was happy to get an early check-in! Most hotels make you wait until 3pm but they got me in my room around noon. The hotel is a $10 Uber from the train station. It is connected to the convention center which was super convenient as one of the days was cold and pouring rain. Being winter it was nice not to wear a bulky coat. That said the convention center bridge signage could be better. it is conveniently located near one elevator but if you took the other elevator it was harder to find. I met another guest wandering looking for it. The downtown location is great - right across the street from reading market and walking distance to great restaurants. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The lobby is under construction, the middle of the room is covered in black tarps. From the street entrance it looks closed. Hopefully construction will wrap up soon as it is unsightly, no bar and limited lobby seating for guests.

I would stay here again.

This has to be one of the worst service encounters at a Marriott in years. As a Titanium Elite lifetime member, I’d rate this hotel staff and management a 2 out of 5. Rooms haven’t been updated in years.

1. We arrived and had requested mobile check in with extra towels and pillows but never received them until we had to call much later.
2. No upgrades and the lobby area was all under repair.
3. The concierge lounge was closed and they don’t offer vouchers at this hotel. They’ve opted out of the Titanium program.
4. We froze for 2 nights because the bed had no comforter - just a sheet and blanket. Through the on line chat we asked for a comforter and they said that we were on a feather free floor and no comforters are used. We were never told that we were put on such a floor. At 6:15 we got a call on the phone that they would bring up extra blankets. By 9:00 no one had come. We chatted again and finally someone brought us a comforter.
5. The in room coffee packets, cups, etc... were never replenished during the stay.
6. We were told during the chat that they would let management know about this and they would call us. We never heard from anyone but we did get our bill sent to us on line

I would NOT recommend this hotel to any Marriott Rewards members staying in Philadelphia. Heading off tonight to Nashville Marriott I’m sure they

The room was advertised as having a bath robe but none was present in the room.

The outdated design aside, the shower was quite dirty for being in a 4 Star property and would have been something I may have expected at a roadside Quality Inn.

The amenities were not stocked properly. We had 2 conditioners, no shampoo, no bath mat and no bath soap in the room.

The cubby where clean washcloths were kept was quite disgusting and showed a blatant lack of attention on the part of the cleaning staff.

Free Water Bottle in the Room as Promised? Nope.

The standard wireless internet was not working based on my name and room number and multiple attempts to connect and we were unable to get through to the desk. We payed for the ‘enhanced’ internet and the front desk did waive the fee for this item due to the inconvenience.

I received a form email asking for details from the front desk manager based on the feedback I provided in the Bonvoy App and then never heard anything back.

At this point I have been left with a very poor taste in my mouth for this property in particular and Marriott in general based on my experience.

Let me start by saying that this hotel is excellent by all standards. The hotel is located in the center of Philadelphia downtown, walking distance from all the historic sites, restaurants, bars and parks. It is also conveniently located next to the SEPTA Jefferson railway station which was awesome since I was traveling to Aston, PA during my stay and it saved me a lot of time and money. The property was fully renovated over the past couple of years and is spoteless. My check-in was very easy and convenient through the BonVoy app and my hotel room was ready to go on time with a very streamlined process. I stayed on the 17th floor with a great view of the city in a very quiet part. The room was large, bathroom spotless and well stocked, there was a fridge, bottles of water and a very comfortable bed. I loved the gym on the first floor; it was really big and had a lot of equipment. There is a FEDEX facility, Starbucks and convenience store on site which was very practical to grab breakfast quickly in the morning. All the staff was extremely polite and professional. I rarely give a five for my reviews but this hotel deserves it. On top of this it was very reasonably priced compared to other properties which I think had less of a strong standard. So I highly recommend it and definitely would stay there again if I had another opportunity to go to Philadelphia.

The Hotel is quite old and shabby. The carpet in the bedroom isn’t acceptable at all. A bit unusual not to have at least a small bottle of water /free of charge in the room.... After opening the available bottle I only recognized the price of $ 3.50!
To our big surprise no breakfast buffet is served at the only restaurant available at the Hotel. No cafeteria or coffee shop available except an ugly Starbucks where some beggars asked us for money...
Honestly I was dissapointed of this Marriott

My Marriott reviews are falling in to a bit of pattern. The Hotel is nice enough, although in some areas getting a little worn around the edges. It's location, however, is fantastic, with ready access to restaurants, shopping and transportation, and the staff uniformly provided good service. On the other hand, once again my titanium status didn't get me a room upgrade, or even room that had been recently refreshed. The lounge was closed all weekend, and the "points" offered in exchange can't begin to compensate a couple for 4 breakfasts and an other services provided by the lounge. Remind me again why I am loyal to this brand when I get only those things that I have paid for?

The front desk rep was a young male who was awful. I was only one standing in line and it took him 10mins to call me ober because he was joking around with his co workers. He didnt greet me he just asked for my ID and creidt card. Never gave me the run down about the wifi, elevators, local eateries or anthing very unfriendly. I did valet and when she brought my car to me my back tire was slashed. None of the valet knew anything and was very nonchalant about it. All they offered was to remove the valet fee of $56 off my bill. One week went by and I called hotel and they enevr reccied a request for a refund. The valet supervisor didnt put the refund thru and now then I had to wait another week for my money. Bad expereince and will not be staying there again!

This one of Marriott’s premier properties in town, second in style and class only to the nearby Ritz Carlton. Regrettably, it is still not yet back to pre-pandemic service levels. Untrained staff, unnecessary alarms, no concierge lounge, front desk mistakes all characterized our stay. For a leading property, a huge disappointment. Most other Marriott’s have long since re-opened their concierge lounge. If under construction or remodeling, thoughtful managers take over a meeting room and offer a temporary location for such elite services. Not here. Nothing. Given the value of breakfast, afternoon appetizers, and drinks and snacks throughout the day (the typical offerings) not doing so is a serious decline in promised services. This hotel offered a measly 1000 points for the failure to serve. 1000 points. To come even close to compensation, it would need to be more like 10,000 points. So management just does not get it. I did not appreciate desk staff being unable to find my reservation; I did not enjoy multiple alarms going off during my Zoom meetings; I think the lack of a concierge loung is simply a leadership failure; and I was insulted by the offer of 1000 points.

Only valet, but don’t recall the cost. There’s a parking garage across the street from front of Marriott and you have in and out privileges if you choose hotel option and length of stay. For almost 3 days it cost me $94 total.
