Clean, well run hostel in good location. Staff is friendly & helpful. Fun activities most nights. Ghost tour is cool. Full kitchen, TV room, piano & guitar in lounge. Can store luggage 1st & last days
I stayed here for two nights recently whilst travelling around the east coast. The location first of all is excellent in the old city fairly close to downtown and the Ben Franklin Bridge/Delaware River Front. The interior inside is modern and fashionable which gives off a great vibe. I found the staff respectful and polite and felt they explained everything about the hostel etc. the wifi was good and the room was fine nothing spectacular but more than stay able. The toilets also were very clean, and I liked the rocky music which is on as you go up the stairs. Only downside I’d say is there is no lift which can be pain when you’re on the top floor. The price was reasonable too so after all is said I’d happily stay here again.
I stayed here for 2 weeks while getting treatment at the Philadelphia VA hospital. The facilities are beautiful, and there is always fun stuff to do as well as nightly hostel hosted mixers. The area is safe and security at the hostel itself is top notch, including key card access and an always vigilant staff. And while we are on the subject of the staff...it is the staff that made my stay throughly enjoyable. All of them are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. But given the circumstances of my stay, I had some special circumstances that were addressed by Katie and Ariella, both of whom, I shall be forever grateful to for their for their kindness, compassion and willingness to make accommodations to the best of their abilities. Not all heroes wear capes. I would also like to mention Max, the overnight guardian of the gate, he somehow managed to keep the chaos at bay. And finally I'd like to mention Desiree, the resident house mom who knows everything there is to know about exploring Philadelphia. I simply cannot recommend Apple Hostel any more vehemently or sincerely.…
So I've made a reservation on their website to stay at their hostel for tonight. They called me up and said they were cancelling my reservation, even though I paid for it and I've haven't been refunded. So Now I'm literally in the city with no place to stay because of these scammers who stole my money and now say I can't stay there. This is discrimination, and make sure you have backup plans because this 40 bucks a night is too good to be true.
I stayed here alone while travelling in the US from the UK. I felt safe staying here as a lone female traveller. It was a good price for the area (I paid £31 a night to stay in the 18 bed shared dorm room). Overall I rated this excellent at least partly because of the price. I will list both what I considered positive and negative points: Positive: * staff were friendly and helpful * it was easy to find * it seemed clearn * shower facilities with towel provided * dorm was spacious and layout made it feel like I had some privacy in my bunk * free hot tea in communal area * good communal area with pool table, comfortable sofas, etc and kitchen for use. * free WiFi Negative: * the springs in the mattress were not very good so it was hard to find a comfy position Mixed: * The dorm room lights were controlled automatically which was partly good as it meant someone couldn't turn them on at like 2am as has happened to me in other hostels. However I felt 10am was quite late for them to come on, and it was tricky to prepare to check out and get ready etc as the room was very dark. I think at least 9am would be more reasonable and even 8:30 or earlier wouldn't be outrageous especially as the bunks have a curtain you can pull across part of them anyway. 11pm was an OK shut off time. * lockers were provided but you needed your own lock. They sold these but not cheaply.…
Location is just perfect: spot on the old town, close to transportation and great food (loved Sonny's cheese steak and the ice creams from Franklin). Room was big, and great facilities too! You need to make your bed, and bring down the linen later. Also, no lift (at least Eastern Building) but they make up with a fun surprise :) Neither are an issue, just FYI.
Excellent value for money. The rooms are comfortable and public areas including bathrooms and shower rooms very clean. Great chill out areas. WiFi can be a bit hit and miss during peak hours but is usually available. The staff are all friendly. Easy walking distance to all major attractions. Mega shout out to the Red Parasol Cafe around the corner in Market - super chill, great coffee, great staff. Also Franklin Fountain for ice cream.
The first two days ( Thursday and Friday) were fine. I appreciated that I was the only person in a 6 bunk room. Then, on Saturday, a male entered the room without knocking just as I was dressing. No knock, just barged in. The door was locked so it must have been an employee. I asked if he were a cleaner. He mumbled something and left. I didn't sleep all night and left early Sunday morning although I had paid through Sunday. They would not refund my money for the last day. Also, dishes are "washed" by the users, so not always very clean. Other than that, I would stay there again. The location is great.
The hostel was amazing it has everything you need it's like it was build FOR the guest and not just to be an avarage hostel. the rooms are big and with a/c the lockers are big and even have outlets inside. the bathrooms are big and fully equiped (soap&shampoo). The kitchen has EVERYTHING (stove, cooker hood, cutlery, refrigertors etc,,,) the WIFI is strong and you can get the signal even if you are outside of the hostel. Now, its all about the hospitaity, isn't it? so the staff were amazing and really helpful especially Desiree and Mark! It was a lovely place and I'll defintely come back again!
Very friendly and helpful staff at reception. Rooms and bathrooms well equipped. Free pool table in new condition. Plenty of charging points for your electronics. It is on a side street but very close to several museums and restaurants/bars/takeaways. Professionally run. No lift so be prepared to climb some stairs! (my only negative would be the elderly cleaning lady who likes to hang out at the reception. She is not particularly customer friendly and lacks simple customer service skills - like using the words please and thank you. She has an abrupt manner and seems to take pleasure in telling people what to do and how to do it. Rather off-putting)
