Right from the moment I stepped out of my car, I knew this hotel was going to be a keeper. The valet attendant immediately greeted me with a smile and carried my bags to reception. He opened both sets of doors for me, which made me feel like a queen!

The lobby is small and lively, flanked by two establishments that looked lovely. I was too tired from traveling to notice much about the places. The front desk attendants were friendly, funny, and very efficient. They got me checked in quickly and I was on my way up to my room. The elevator requires that guests flash their key for use, which makes me feel safe and secure.

The hallways are neat and clean, with low pile carpet that’s easy on luggage wheels. The main event really is the room. It’s gorgeous! Very posh. It’s much more spacious than I imagined and the decor is well planned and quite stylish. There is a neat dressing area with a thought-out design and the bathroom has lots of room to move around with beautiful appliances and lovely smelling amenities. The bed is soft with pillows you melt into. There’s even a chic 1990s style telephone by the bed. The mid-century mod bed frame and the beautiful crown modeling in the ceiling give the room a special touch.

I am throughly impressed!

We booked a king standard room and stayed here with our toddler for 3 weeknights recently. There are no amenities other than a restaurant on site (Wayward), and that its connected to Federal Donuts next door. Detailed review below:

Parking: there are options with varying prices close by. The Lowes hotel is $55/60 a night across the st but think priority goes to their guests. Canopy does have valet for around the same price as well. We opted to self park at the East Market Parking Garage which was across the street next to the pet/vet place. $35 per night. Another night we found a garage next to Jefferson hospital and a coupon online which brought the rate down to $18 per night, but was a 4-5 minute walk from the hotel.

Hotel: the king standard was on the ninth floor and we had the curtains drawn almost the entire time so the view didn't matter. There are I believe 12 floors of which PH is 12. The ceilings are so tall, and the property itself is beautiful and swanky. The room is modest and quite tight but was just enough for our stay. The bathroom, thankfully was larger than most other hotels and came in handy with our toddler.

Covid: masks were not worn by all staff members. Since housekeeping is only on demand, we did ask for towels and toiletries a few times which was fine. We communicated via the Hilton Honors app and I believe it was with front desk.

Diamond status - we are Hilton Diamond members and there was no upgrade offered upon mobile check in. We received $24 daily credit for use at the Wayward (honestly cant get much of a breakfast let alone a meal for 2). We ended up ordering bottled juices just to spend the credit and interestingly enough one day the juices were 10oz (tiny) and the next to was 16.5... strange...

Some items to note - the valet staff were not attentive at all thru our 3 night stay. I'm not one to fuss but when they're standing and poking at their phones at the valet booth, at least help us press the button to open the doors for us if you see that we are schlepping a stroller, young child, umbrella, bags etc. Just looking for basic courtesy. On the flip side, we did mobile check in which helped us bypass the front desk interaction and using your phone you unlock the hotel room/activate elevator. You can literally check in and out with zero human interaction. The hotel room has switches and outlets in particular the bed frame which our toddler loved switching on and off all night long. How awesome for a good night's rest!

Everything about this stay was PERFECT. From dinner and drinks at The Wayward to a friendly front desk staff to comfortable rooms with all amenities, I cannot recommend Canopy Philadelphia enough! I really loved the aesthetic and vibes of the decor, the colors, and how modern everything was. I felt very safe - masks were worn by everyone, hand sanitizer near all elevators, anti-bacterial wipes given in your room, and the standard for cleaning/sanitizing were above and beyond!

The location is hard to beat too - relatively close to everything and only steps away from Reading Terminal!

We booked three rooms for the weekend and each room had major housekeeping issues. Two of the three had extreme noise issues due to the HVAC system. The housekeeping issues lead me to believe that the hotel has a management problem. One room had dirty sheets on the bed with a cigarette between the mattress pad and bottom sheet. The second room did not have a mattress protector on the bed and sparse bathroom amenities (one shampoo & one lotion). The duvet in the third room was inside out and garbage was found between the duvet and the cover. Even if occupancy is high and staffing is low, management needs to ensure the quality of service which is being paid for is offered. On that note, this is an older hotel which is touted as a boutique hotel. Ear plugs and a white noise machine in each room would go a long way to help with guest satisfaction. Bathrobes would also be a plus. Bottom line, unless you plan to be passed out drunk to sleep, this is not the hotel for you.

This is my go to hotel every month when I'm in Philly in business. It's walking distance from tons of restaurants, a block from a great organic grocery, the Gayborhood and public transit. The fitness center has all the basics: cardio machines, dumbbells, a basic cable rack. Rooms are a little smallish but very efficiently laid out with nice custom furniture and a small "drawer" refrigerator that is large enough to store OJ, milk and a couple of takeout containers. AC controls let you keep a hum of pleasant white noise, I'm a light sleeper and do well here.

The Woodward (on premise bar/restaurant) has a cute outdoor seating area and a lively happy hour scene.

If you're planning on sleeping during the day, avoid rooms on the south side of the building as they face a construction site nearby. I've never noticed noise at night.

I have stayed at countless Hilton properties over the years. Canopy in Philadelphia Center City may be the best one I have ever visited. The hotel opened only 15 months ago, and it looks and feels brand new. The $80mm build out of this historic building was worth the expense - the design is incredible and the rooms are beautiful with every detail addressed to perfection. The common areas feel like something you would see on one of the elegant cruise ships that sailed in the early 20th century, but with cool twists including modern artwork that stops you in your tracks. The location is also outstanding as you can walk to essentially everything you would want to see within 5-15 minutes. The value proposition was excellent, and when you factor in that your car doesn't have to be returned by the valet until 5pm on your departure date, the fairly steep parking fee is actually not bad at all. I am definitely looking forward to staying here again soon.

Concierge was friendly and helpful. He helped me booked a reservation at their hotel since I didn’t know you needed reservations. Their restaurant, The Wayward was delliiiccious!!! I ate in the outside patio area where they allowed dogs. The branzino fish was delicious with its crispy skin, crunchy green beans, and mixture of sauces. The pear dessert was different, but good. It was stuffed with sweet cream and served with brown champagne sauce that has a bite to it.

Self parking is available nearby for $35, but I used valet which was $56 overnight with in and out privileges. The valet was efficient.

Location is near a lot of restaurants, attractions, and shops.

Dog friendly although the outside area didn’t have a lot of places for my dog to go potty. They even offered a dog bowl and dog bed. There was a sliding door partition between the bedroom and bathroom so it allowed me to keep my dog in the bathroom area when I was gone. I have to do that because she tends to pee on rugs. It was spacious enough for her so she wasn’t cooped up in a small bathroom.

Hotel has a basketball/sneakerhead theme so I thought that was cool. Room was clean and comfortable. The AC was a bit loud, but it was white noise for me. Didn’t hear neighbors and rarely heard sirens outside.

Didn’t try fitness center. No swimming pool. No complimentary breakfast, but The Wayward sells breakfast.

My husband and I had a fantastic stay here. The hotel is modern, clean and incredibly stylish. Location is a few minute walk from Philly's City hall and within walking distance to the cool Magic Garden art scene. The hotel also offers complimentary bikes to further explore the city.

Self parking was available on the same block for $35 overnight. Our room was well cleaned, chic and full of amenities. We had a suite which included two toilets, stand alone tub, two TVs with a small couch and a nice coffee machine. The bed was soft and comfortable with plenty of outlets and usb ports.

For dinner we went to Wayward, which is located in the building. I highly recommend it. Food is french influenced but still distinctly American, service was top notch. We also enjoyed the slick donut shop in the morning, which offers made to order donuts!

Highly recommended

My family and I recently traveled to Philadelphia. We were a bit nervous due to the virus. We selected the Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia because it was brand new, and so we thought would be cleaner than hotels that have been open much longer. We also loved the images that we saw online and that the hotel had a large private outdoor space with string lighting!

When we arrived - we were blown away. The lobby was super clean and so many unique design elements. Entire hotel is filled with art and design. Looks like they mixed fashion into the design too.

My husband liked the historic building that the hotel is reusing. We discovered that the building was originally built to house the Stephen Girard Trust, which was made up of his enormous wealth that he had charitably donated to the City of Philadelphia. He passed away in 1831 and his wealth is still making a difference for good in Philadelphia. Amazing!

We ate our dinner at their Restaurant, The Wayward, and it may be one of the very best restaurants I have been to. We were able to eat outdoors on the patio, which is surrounded by lush gardens and beautiful bistro lights. They have a lot of heat lamps and fire-pits, so we were not even a bit cold in the early November evening.

Their lobby also has a local donut and coffee shop, Federal Donuts. We were surprised that they also sold Fried Chicken (which explained their logo... lol).

The entire trip was so nice and mainly because of our stay at the Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia hotel. The staff was so friendly! Felecia at the front desk was so amazing and helped us to select a custom made post card, that looks like parts of the hotel.

We highly recommend this hotel! We are not sure when we will be back to Philly - but this will certainly be the place we stay when we do!!!

Overall, this is a good hotel. Very nicely styled, good service, nice amenities. We loved the refillable water bottle and filtered water & ice on each floor. The breakfast in the restaurant was really good. Federal Donuts is in the lobby and they had great coffee. Unfortunately, the only flaws were big ones for us. The bed was ridiculously soft. Not just a bit softer than we like, but ridiculous. It was essentially just a pillow. No support at all and after the 2nd night, we both woke up with back pain. The other was the shower. Very stylish, but almost no water pressure and it never got hot, just lukewarm. A hotel can be as stylish and welcoming as can be, but if it fails on the bed and the shower, it fails. Lastly, these are nitpicky, but the first night, right as we settled in to watch a movie, an alert system starting going off saying there was an emergency in the building and to stay in our rooms. It repeated this every 15 seconds for 15 minutes. It was really unnerving and then it just stopped. No one called or came by to say what was going on. It took awhile to relax again. The second night, someone in an adjacent room was vaping weed so much that it came through our air vents and filled our room with skunk smell (not the hotel's fault, but just made for a final annoyance.) We's stay here again if the beds improved.

There are several garages in that area for about $40-50 a day/overnight. It’s very walkable but if you need on-site valet you pay a little more and I would say speed just depends on how many ppl are waiting and the traffic. It’s a very congested area right now.
