Sonder The Witherspoon hotel garners high marks for its spotless rooms and the provision of cleaning supplies that contribute to a cozy, home-like atmosphere. Reviewers are particularly impressed with the thoughtful amenities, including well-equipped kitchens and noise-reducing devices to counteract the vibrant city sounds. Nestled in a prime central location, the hotel is a favorite for those looking to explore Philadelphia's historical charms on foot. While some guests mention the occasional street noise and room wear, the overall sentiment is one of excellent value and commendable service.

This 1 bedroom apartment had a full kitchen, full sized fridge and microwave (they even provided small bottles of olive oil for our use!). The bathroom was shower only, but all we needed. The queen bed was very firm, but surprisingly comfortable! The living area had a table for 1 and couch, coffee table and decently large flatscreen tv. It was large enough to keep us comfortable, I could sleep while my husband watched tv, though the sound travelled too well into the bedroom (speaker for tv was facing that way). The whole unit was spotless, even the stainless steel sink in the kitchen. Very clean apartment. It is located in the center of the city and you can walk easily to see the sights, including the Reading Terminal Market. Food, restaurants and shops are all easily accessed in this location, as well as the Walnut Street Theatre. Parking is a premium, so we just used a parkade a block away and walked everywhere. The building front was not well marked and we missed it 2 x while driving by it; once we found it, it was sooo worth it. Check in was online, and there was still people at a small front desk in the lobby, in case we needed anything; there was also a security person at a desk 24 hrs, and that was a comfort when we got in very late one night, We will be using Sonders in other cities when we can -- an excellent experience!

I stayed here for 3 nights. My experience was wonderful. It is is walking distance from everything imaginable, so saved on rideshare costs. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and a few condiments like salt and pepper. The laundry in the apt. was stocked with pods & the bed was very comfortable. The customer service was very responsive to all questions and took care of special requests right away. I will definitely stay at other sonder locations. If you don't mind cooking, it will save you a lot of money

We had a very nice three-night stay at the Witherspoon. The location is central and convenient (although to be honest the street where the entrance is located is less attractive — but we never felt unsafe). The stonework on the outside of the building is beautiful. They have clearly worked hard to preserve the historic building and converted it into modern serviced apartments for short term stays.. The one bedroom apartment we had was very modern, new feeling, clean and nicely-appointed with quality furnishings and accessories. It was convenient to have a washer and dryer. Laundry and dish detergent was even included. We appreciated the seventh generation brand (green) hand soap, dish detergent, and spray cleanser in the kitchen). The sofabed was comfortable and clean linens, comforter, pillows, etc. were provided. There was no question that everything had been thoroughly cleaned between guests.Everything (check in, check out, entry through key codes or the mobile key,, access to lockers after our stay). is well-thought out for an efficient stay. It was our first Sonder experience and I hope it will not be our last.

Excellent stay, basically all you need for a comfortable stay in the city. Have in mind that this is not a hotel. No, there’s not a 24/7 front desk instead you get a 24/7 virtual support through the Sonder app. No, you don’t get daily cleaning instead you can clean yourself or you can request a cleaning for a fee. this place is located in a central location within walking distance to all attraction in the Philadelphia Center City. We were a group of three staying at a one bedroom apartment that includes a fully stocked kitchen, a washer and dryer, one bathroom, one queen size sofa bed and one king size bed. You have tons of extra space like an office room, two closets and a breakfast table. They give you all the amenities you need for a stay like soap, shampoo, dishwasher, coffee, cream and sugar. I see sonder as a love child between an Airbnb and a hotel. I’m definitely staying at sonder again.

Loved the location of this stay. Within walking distance to city hall, Septa stations, Jefferson station with access to the airport, tons of dining, nightlife, and history via Old City. Rooms were stocked with everything you might need during your stay (basic toiletries, paper towels, sponge, soaps, dishwashing pods, laundry pods) and everything was perfectly cleaned, dusted, polished. Sonder support was quick to respond to any inquiries. My only complaint would be the early check in/late check out option. My requests were made well in advance. I didn’t receive a decision until shortly before check in and check out and both were denied which was a disappointing start and end to the stay and made planning difficult. I understand the room needs to be prepared for other bookings, but an advance notice would be nice / hide the option if it’s clearly not possible. Or find a way to push a notification shortly after housekeeping finishes the room. Other than that your code provides access to the building at 8am the day of your stay and until 10 pm the end of your stay- this allowed you to place items in the large lockers. Perfect for dropping off items before or after stay so you didn’t need to lug them around the city. Overall I’d highly recommend this stay and experience.

We stayed here as two moms with two elementary aged daughters each (so 6 total) and were very pleased with our accommodations. Every part of the space (lobby, bedrooms, kitchenette, living space) was clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed being able to stay in one location with all 6 of us, and also have a place to store and consume some food while we stayed. There was plenty of room for our girls to spread out and play.

It was loud (our rooms faced Walnut Street), but cities are noisy, and the apartment came with ear plugs for every guest as well as a noise machine in each bedroom.

My only issues were the lack of blackout curtains in the living area (where two members of our party slept) and the strange and inconvenient locations of the toilet paper holders in the bathrooms. One holder was at hip level and right up against our adult hips and the other was up and behind the toilet, which made it a little difficult to reach. Easily fixed though by just taking the rolls off the holders and putting them on the counter.

The location is excellent. It is very close to City Hall, which makes walking to the historical area, the museums (like Franklin Institute and Philadelphia Museum of art), and South Street easy. There are also plenty of restaurants and parking nearby. All in all we were VERY pleased with our stay. I would highly recommend to others.

This is in a great location to get to the historical sites walking although we did use Ubers to get home sometimes. There are several reasons for the four star rating: the unit we were in was heavily used - lots of marks on the walls and stains on the bedroom carpet; the bathroom door had its interior insulation coming out onto the floor; the ceiling above the shower was stained and apparently been subject to a flood from the unit above. Another issue was the stringent smell when the exterior hall was cleaned, while we are happy that sanitation is a priority the smell was overpowering in the unit. It would have been nice to have had some kind of drawers/ shelves in the bedroom and a more comfortable sofa. There were no refills in the Essentials closet at any time we checked. We did have coffee replenished after asking at the desk. While not something Sonder can control the noise on weekend nights was ridiculous and no earplugs could make it better. The bed was pretty comfortable with lots of pillows, some of which we used to try to make the sofa more comfortable. Air conditioning was very good and we felt safe. The kitchen was fully stocked, the fridge has a great ice maker, all utensils you need to cook if you want to. All the employees we interacted with were friendly and helpful.

I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and airbnb's during my various personal and business travel over the years. This was one of the worst experiences I have had, largely due to Sonder's poor customer service and willing to address issues. Issues happen, but when ownership or management refuses to acknowledge them and fix them, that is unacceptable.

First, the check-in process was not as seamless as I would have hoped. I tried checking in before I arrived and could not do the full check in. When we arrived, I was in a rush to go to an event, and I had to go thorugh this whole process of taking a picture of myself, my ID, etc. This is all fine because it improves the security, but then I still did not receive my check-in instructions. With no phone number to call, I had to go through the chat , and spend 30 minutes until I was sent my passcode for the room.

Second, when we got into the room, it did not look like what was in the pictures on hotels.com. The room faced ugly interior building mechanicals, had no natural light, and was tiny. The living room was crammed, and the bedroom literally just fit the bed, and nothing else. OI do not believe the pictures were representative of this unit by any means.

Lastly, by far the worst issue, was that when we arrived there was a lot of general building noise, especially from the mechanical equipment. Maybe we got unlucky with our room, but the noise was unbearable. It sounded like an electric toothbrush or electric razor at a loud volume was on our entire stay, causing issues for us while trying to sleep. The only thing I care about anywhere is being able to sleep, and I could not do this. Sonder was clearly aware of this issue, as they put a noise maker and ear plugs next to the bed with a sign. It is one thing to have ambient noise from the street that you cannot control, but to knowingly sell a unit that has permanent sound issues is a big problem.

This all would have been fine if Sonder remedied the situation. When I went through the chat group, they said they would follow up the next day. They responded by simply saying there was absolutely nothing they could do, not move me to another unit, not refund me, nothing. They said they put a noise disclaimer in the ad, and that the pictures are representative of the unit. I went back to hotels.com and found the disclaimer buried in the listing saying "noise-free room not guaranteed". Again, to say this, and have issues like street noise you can't control is one thing, but they clearly knew about this mechanical sound issue.

This was my first Sonder experience, and most certainly my last. The service was awful, the unit was awful, everything about it was awful. Do not stay here.

We had a great stay at Sonder The Witherspoon, the second time I have booked this accommodation. The booking and check in process were easy, and the location was very convenient in the center of the city, with easy access to great restaurants, Reading Terminal Market, Macy’s, City Hall, and public transportation. The apartment felt like staying at home with all the necessary amenities plus a kitchen for cooking some of our own meals. The bed was very comfy and a noise machine and ear plugs were provided for light sleepers. Do realize that this Sonder is located in a nightlife district. We also really appreciated the luggage storage on the day we departed. Overall an excellent experience and stay, and we would gladly book again!

I stayed in 2 rooms during my stay, one an office suite and the other a studio. Both had beautiful new stainless steel appliances, a kitchen island, bed and standard bathroom with a bathtub and shower. I heavily used the refrigerator, and ran a load of dishes and laundry prior to checking out. The location is excellent and nearby to conference centers and the train station. The staff were laid back and friendly. One of the rooms was a little quirky (no side table or outlet next to one side of the bed, very dim bedroom lighting), but the other room was just fine! Make sure to read the instructions under the television to download the Comcast app so that you can watch tellie.
