What a great change of pace from staying in a chain hotel. My wife and I stayed while visiting family and everything was A+. Proprietors were super engaging. Room was well laid out, warm and inviting. Breakfast was great and they accommodated my wife’s dietary requests.
Hosts were nice, hospitable and friendly, and the breakfasts were good. But the room we stayed in was in desperate need of updating, especially the bathroom, which was tiny and had an exceedingly low toilet. Also, all of the linens and the mattress need to be replaced.
The Innkeepers were so friendly and welcoming, including Buddy (their adorable dog)! Instantly felt at home. Everything was nicely done everywhere you looked. Perhaps an overload of chairs but then again there is more than enough for guests! :) We had the room at the top of the stairs. It was lovely but very cramped for 2 people and luggage. We are on the road 3 weeks - we didn’t bring everything in but for two big suitcases it was tight. It’s perfect if you are doing just a weekend getaway. I loved they had a fridg upstairs as well as down and also offered sodas, etc. as well as coffee and tea. The dining room was so beautiful. Love all the windows! I have to disagree with the other guests regarding breakfasts. They are wonderful! They asked right when we came in if we had diet needs (my husband is gluten free and he was so thrilled they catered to that. Most don’t.). I don’t care about menus (I like surprises) and I think made-to-order is asking a lot since this isn’t a restaurant. They had very creative breakfasts every day. If you seriously couldn’t eat what was prepared, Valerie is so sweet that I’m sure she would bring you something! At our last B&B in Bar Harbor, we had to clean our rooms before we left! Now THAT is something to complain about! :) Because I love detail, I loved all the settings for the fall at every table. It looked like there was real thought into it. We didn’t mind the location at all. There is a busy street but the B&B feels tucked away among the trees and the long driveway. We loved exploring the nearby town and went there a couple of times for dining and shopping! Our innkeepers gave us plenty of recommendations! Nearby was a CVS and other things that we needed. Also the famous CIA which we toured. We had dinner there with reservations we made a month earlier to insure we got in. Such an easy drive from Journey! What a wonderful visit! We hope to visit Buddy again! (He doesn’t know he’s not the owner! LOL)…
We traveled to beautiful Hyde Park to do some hiking and see the Roosevelt properties. For us the journey inn was a fantastic location. Although, it’s a little difficult to see from the road and even with GPS it’s a very quick turn and up the left driveway. The Inn sits on a hill and is nicely landscaped. You can’t really see the inn very well from the road, at least at dusk, only the small sign. We missed it the first time. There is ample parking and upon arrival the friendly owners and their cute dog met us at the door and gave us a nice tour of the Inn. No luggage cart so we had to make several trips back-and-forth to our car and up the stairs to our room. Really not a problem but it was raining unfortunately. They also gave us some good recommendations for dinner in the area since the Culinary Institute (make your reservations for that well in advance of your stay btw) was closed the night we were free. We stayed in the English garden suite. It was clean and nicely decorated. The suite is very big with a large bathroom area and comfortable king bed. We especially liked the two sink areas. With central air, apparently our room normally runs cooler in the winter and fall, but that was perfect for us. Our only disappointment in the room was that the dressers had very little empty drawers for us. Just not a lot of places to put your clothes if you’re staying for more than a night. Breakfast is included of course in this bed-and-breakfast in. It was a little strange the breakfast is a surprise each morning versus seeing a menu with a couple of options the day before. You are asked if you have any dietary restrictions or things you don’t care for. However without knowing what might be prepared it’s pretty hard to come up with a list of what you don’t like. Personally I would’ve preferred eggs to order with some bacon or sausage but that was not an option. We did receive a perfectly prepared and pretty good quiche with some yogurt with apple crisp. Very tasty! Not the most healthy choice but neither is bacon or sausage! What we had was good and nice table overlooking the grounds with the birdfeeder next to us which was nice.…
The Inn is beautiful inside and out, the hosts were warm and gracious and full of good tips regarding area residents, and hiking trails. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The Inn is right across the street from the Vanderbilt Estate and a little more than a mile to the FDR Presidential Library. Plenty of parking on the property. Downside: few good restaurants or shops in Hyde Park so had to drive to Rhineback, about 9 miles away for dinners. But plenty of nice restaurants and shops there.
The Journey Inn is located right on route 9, directly across the street from the Vanderbilt Mansion and convenient to many other sites in the Mid-Hudson River Valley. We spent one night in the Kyoto room. The room was comfortable and cozy. The bathroom for this particular room is just across the hall. It’s only a minor inconvenience and it’s totally exclusive for the Kyoto room occupants, complete with your own key. Bathrobes are provided for the few seconds you’re in the hall. The upside is that it’s probably a more spacious bathroom than the ones that are en suite—it’s quite lovely. The innkeepers are very friendly and helpful. We expressed a preference for a plant-based breakfast and they accommodated us with oatmeal, coconut milk yogurt and delicious vegan banana bread. We thought the rate for the room quite reasonable and overall an excellent value. If you’re interested in a warm and friendly setting where it’s easy to relax, this is it.…
It's the full Vermont B&B experience, but closer to NYC. The owners are lovely and the breakfast is DELICIOUS with good brewed coffee and gourmet dishes like clafoutis. Buddy the dog is very sweet but also perfectly respectful if you are not a dog person. We were in the "English Country Suite" and it was huge and also added to the mood with pretty antique furniture. Feels remote but there are plenty of restaurants pretty close. We enjoyed the tour and grounds of the Vanderbilt Mansion across the street too.
What a delightful stay my husband and I had at this lovely B&B. As others have noted, it is right across from the main entrance to the Vanderbilt Mansion. It's on a busy road, but it was nice and quiet there. We had the Vanderbilt Suite, a very comfortable suite with private bath. The owners are very friendly, and their dog is adorable. The breakfasts were wonderful--- the best we had on our road trip. The public rooms are open and friendly, too. There are some great books in the bookshelves, and I happily borrowed one during our stay. This is a great base for the FDR library and house, Eleanor Roosevelt's second home, and of course, the Vanderbilt itself. Many options to eat! We didn't attempt the CIA, but loved Terrapin in Rhinebeck (10-12 miles north), and the Eveready Diner in Hyde Park (diner food, but so convenient!) I am not usually a fan of tiny B&Bs, but I'd make an exception here as the owners gave us plenty of space both in our rooms, and in the house itself. Highly recommend!…
The owners and there dog, buddy are all super friendly. The room was comfy and the breakfast served at 8:30 or 9 was excellent. Great sitting rooms for the evenings and even a patio to sit on. Great location.
It’s a lovely place. The Journey Inn has a great location close to the Vanderbilt mansion, the Roosevelt house, and library. The rooms have a nice colonial touch with a private bathroom. It’s a nice balcony along the house. The breakfast is prepared from the best fresh ingredients and very tasteful. The hosts are very knowledgeable regarding the local attractions and they give you an excellent input how you can spend your valuable time at Hyde Park and close area. One of the best Bread and Breakfast Inn I have ever visited.
