Campsites are close to a beautiful beach that is not crowded. Bathroom and shower facilities are nice and clean - showers are cold though so if that's not for you bring a solar shower. We followed the advice of other reviewers and sprayed OFF Backyard Pretreat on the site plus we used a 99% DEET spray for ourselves and the... More

I can't think of any other place like it around NYC. One train & ferry ride and you're camping on the beach, on a barrier island. Gorgeous meandering footpaths along the marsh and under a forest canopy. Blueberries in July! My kinda place. Watch out for the insects (bug spray July-Aug a must). One downside if taking the train is... More

I visited fire island on the Thursday before 4th of July with my sister to celebrate her 31st birthday! I thought wow, this is going to be a fun adventure, but, packed in haste the morning of our trip before heading to work. I will say that getting to watch hill campsite is very easy by taking the LIRR (Long... More

This place looks amazing. Close to New York. Beautiful beaches. Cheap cheap cheap. But just do not GO here. The camping grounds are RIGHT next to the marsh which is full of (what I think) are Asian Tiger mosquitos. These are special in that they attack all day and night. They are relentless. We had 98% DEET on and they... More

It supposed to be 2-nights camping trip for family of 4 (2 adults+2 kids). We managed to stay just 1 night. I will start my review with "1*" options and then to move to the "5* to give the whole picture of our experience. "1-2** options": 1. MOSQUITOS, MOSQUITOS, MOSQUITOS!!!!!" Seriously, they are INSANE!!! They ate us alive in first... More

Be careful! Watch Hill Campground does not refund money when it rains. In summer in order to get a campsite on the weekend you have to make reservations and pay months in advance. When your weekend finally comes and you can't go because it's raining that weekend Watch Hill will not refund your money. I just called and questioned a... More

At first glance, a camping trip to Watch Hill seems incredibly exciting and attractive. Campsites right next to the beach. Showers, bathrooms, tiki bar, and restaurant all within walking distance to a beautiful beach. The only downside, and it is a big downside, are the mosquitos. I have travelled around the world- - Africa, Southeast Asia - - and without... More

Watch Hill is absolutely gorgeous! My friends and I had a great time. Make your reservations a few months in advance because they book up early. Bring the strongest mosquito repellent you can buy. If there's not much of a breeze, the mosquitos are insane. I stayed after Labor Day, so the amenities--snack bar, convenience store, ferries, train schedules--were all... More
