Been camping here almost every year for 40 years. Forget DEET, use Picaridin based mosquito repellant like Sawyers (REI) and you'll be fine. Without it you're toast. Campground is closed because of marina repairs for the Summer of 2017,

I visited fire island on the Thursday before 4th of July with my sister to celebrate her 31st birthday! I thought wow, this is going to be a fun adventure, but, packed in haste the morning of our trip before heading to work.
