This hotel is quite a bit more expensive than others in the area, but you’re paying for the location, which is right on a pier. We arrived a little after 5 and our room wasn’t quite ready, so we enjoyed the “wine hour” that happened to be going on when we arrived. The wine hour event was from 5-6 and offered 2 different types of wine, a cider, and various snacks. We waited around 15 minutes or so for our room. We stayed in room 301. The room was clean, but could have used some updating, particularly in the bathroom. The views from the room are hard to beat, lovely view of the bridge and water. There was a balcony, but it was quite narrow and just barely wide enough to walk out on. The room had a small kitchen area with a mini fridge, coffee/tea Keurig, and microwave. There was a dining area for two. The living room had a small couch, armchair, television, and gas fireplace. The bedroom had a king bed, closet, and television. The bathroom had a jetted tub and separate shower (the shower was a bit tight). During our stay they were offering a continental breakfast that included juice, pastries, donuts, croissants, and waffles. The hot tub and sauna area were open during our stay with guests making appointments for usage. I suggest making your reservation early because when we checked it, there was only one appointment available.

The room was fantastic! I was right on the water and had a pair of bald eagles right outside in the morning on my last day. The room itself was very nice. The spa and sauna were a nice treat. The staff was a little contradictory when it came to information on the spa but we figured it out on our own and it was quite nice. The evening social hour was also a nice touch and the staff working those events were incredibly nice and accommodating for our large group

One of the only downside was the breakfast, which was mediocre. The spread included mostly baked goods, including DIY waffles, which I didn't try. The fresh fruit was okay although that is expected for a winter stay I guess. Not terrible by any means, just not as good as other hotel breakfasts at cheaper hotels. One other thing to note is that on a foggy night, expect to be woken up by really loud fog horns from barges passing right by the window. Our last night had several barges blaring their horns starting at 2:40am! Even ear plugs didn't help some folks in our group.

Regarding the price/value, we stayed at a discounted rate so I'm not sure how the full value price would compare. This is definitely a step up from your typical hotel so I imagine it is worth the price if the rooms are around $175 /night. More than that and you should probably take advantage of all of the amenities if you can.

Thank you for choosing to settle in with us at The Cannery Pier Hotel during your recent visit to Astoria, Charlie, and for sharing this lovely review. Your detailed description of your experience provides fantastic insight into some of our historic property’s unique qualities, from our wine and lox social hour in the evening to our peerless location right along the Columbia River. With that said, we were disappointed that all of your expectations were not exceeded and truly appreciate your honest feedback. We sincerely hope that whether for business or leisure, we will have the opportunity to create more memories with you on your next visit to our area of the Oregon Coast.

Beautiful boutique hotel with stunning river views, generous amenities, and clean well furnished rooms. Overall our stay was fantastic but had a few minor annoyances. I reserved a room online and added in the notes section that I was booking to surprise my partner for an anniversary and if there was any way to make it extra romantic. Unfortunately when I checked in I was told no one had seen the note. This isn't a huge deal as the room was beautiful and romantic on its own but why have a notes section if no one is going to read it prior to check in. At check in we were also told there would be a wine and cheese service delivered to our room between 5-7 in lieu of the social hour due to COVID restrictions. We stepped out briefly from 5-5:30 to pick up dinner and then ate in our room. At 9:00 after losing track of time, we realized we never had received the wine service but didn’t want to bother calling and requesting it 2 hours after the fact. They could have come by while we were out and missed us but a note on the door telling us to pick it up from the lobby could have solved that issue. Luckily we had our own bottle of wine but no bottle opener in the room. I called the front desk to ask to have one sent up, instead I was asked to look around for it and told specific locations in the room where to look (already looked there and didn’t have one) after explaining I had looked I was told I could bring the wine down myself and have it opened in the lobby. Overall the stay was wonderful, beautiful, romantic, and relaxing. The spa and sauna were particularly wonderful and the added covid timeslot signup system was perfect for enjoying the amenities safely and privately! While each incident was a minor annoyance in an overall excellent stay, if I am spending $350+ a night to stay at a boutique hotel I do expect a certain level of service and those expectations were not met. Don’t have a notes section if no one is going to read it, don’t promise wine and cheese and not deliver, and don’t insist there is a wine opener in the room when there isn't and then make people walk down to the lobby instead of having an opener sent up. We only stayed one night so maybe with different staff our experience would have been different.

First of all let me apologize for the lack of service. There is no reason, Covid restrictions not withstanding, that we could not bring up a wine opener. The wine and cheese was the only thing we could come up with due to the restrictions but we should have delivered it to your room and if you were not there we should have either left a note or a message that we will bring it up for you when you get back. I will be reviewing procedures with the staff to ensure we do not make these errors in the future. I hope that the remainder of your stay was pleasant and that you will give another chance to show you we can give you the experience you expect in the future.

This will probably post twice but I forgot some details in my first review. I am not sure why this is called the Cannery Pier Hotel & SPA..Where is the "spa"? The spa is basically a hot tub.....that you have to sign up for due to Covid.

The wine and cheese social was cancelled. We did get a couple small bottles of sparkling cider and some Tillamook cheese and crackers (for the first night only)?

Our room did not have a window seat which others have spoken of and they are pictured in the King suites or at least I think they are? The drapes were falling apart in the bedroom. The bed was awesome. I give that 5 stars because it was so darn comfortable. There were two small trash cans and one extra liner? Since the housekeeping service was suspended due to Covid, they could have thrown out some extra garbage cans or liners. They didn't seem to have a lot of TV channels to watch. I have stayed in cheaper hotels and they offered a couple movie channels for free and that's the least they could do for what they charge.

I swear we had a couple elephants above us..bang, bang, bang. It sounded like someone was doing Tai Bo or P90X up there which is all fine and good but jeeze..otherwise it wasn't noisy at all. The breeze was fantastic through our room as we were in a corner room.

The bathroom floor was dirty (as in a pile of someone else's hair and dustballs in the corner) and the room itself could use a little upgrading. The sink fixture in the living room does not work with a counter mount bowl. I am not sure who did the design of this "feature" but it was terrible. The fixture in the shower was loose and the commode door handle cover thing was falling off too.

What gives? I get things are different due to Covid but this is not a luxury hotel at all. It looks as if you had some handyman come in and throw up some granite around the tub, and put the cheapest Home Depot water faucet in the living room. There is no "spa" to speak of,....and, the bikes are way cool and fun to ride but they deserve a tune up too. Come on now, you can do better. Put a little TLC into your Hotel and those bicycles!

Thank you for taking time to comment on your most recent stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa. I can certainly understand some confusion with the "& Spa" as prior to Covid we did have treatment rooms. The Spa area does include a hot tub, Finish Sauna, and work out room that guest can still enjoy even during the pandemic. The cleanliness items you mentioned have been addressed with the housekeeping staff and I do apologize about our missing those items. We have looked at each bike to ensure that they are in good working order and when they are not we do replace them. I am sorry that the aesthetics of the bathroom was not to your liking. We do have 55 channels with Showtime as our movie channel. We sincerely appreciate your comment and we do take them all very seriously. I hope that you will give us another chance in the future.

We recently booked two nights at the Cannery Pier for a romantic getaway. For the price ($400-$500/night) we were expecting luxury but were very disappointed. The accommodations and service were seriously lacking. No EV charger, outdated beat up furniture, only a thin cotton blanket, a rumbling mini fridge, a hot tub that’s not deep enough to fully submerge. Plus our room was across from the ice machine which made an awful whirring noise all night. Granted, I’m a light sleeper, but I expect to at least not hear each time the guests above me flush the toilet. It’s nice that they offer breakfast, wine and cheese and cookies but the quality was really pretty sad and everything comes on paper plates with plastic utensils making it feel more like a Best Western than a luxury hotel. The nail in the coffin was that when we left for the day we asked the front desk if the room would be refreshed while we were out and they said yes. When we came back at 6pm they hadn’t cleaned the room or made the bed. The view is nice but overall it’s not worth the price.

I don't know if it is the new ownership or what but I was very disappointed with this hotel. I know that COVID has forced them to change some things but that is not an excuse for cutting corners and ignoring guests.

For example, the pet fee is $50 per night per pet. We have stayed at many pet friendly hotels and have paid much lower pet fees and the other hotels provided treats, warm welcome for pet, toys, etc. The Cannery provided nothing for our pet. They had us take him in through the back door, and their information in the room stated that the pet fee is $25.00. We were charged $50 per night which is outrageous!

The had to cancel the nightly wine and cheese social hour which is understandable but they could do more than deliver a couple of glasses of wine on the first night with a meat and cheese combo bag. We do not eat meat and the cheese was not very good.

We filled out a form for breakfast but the choices were limited. The quality of the Danish and muffins was terrible, the cereal had too much sugar and they forgot to deliver our hard boiled eggs.

To use the spa you need to sign up on a sheet which is fine but when we tried to sign up there was no sheet available. Once again my husband went to the office only to find the staff chatting. We were able to sign up but we had to go out of our way to do so.

The balcony to our room was so small that you cannot open the door without moving the balcony furniture. However, my biggest complaint is that we never felt welcome at the Cannery Pier Hotel. The staff was not friendly, they cut corners and they never once asked us about our stay. Our bill was confusing soI just called the hotel and the women on the other end was very cold. I was much happier at the Hallmark Resort in Cannon Beach who provided our pet with toys and treats, charged less and actually seemed to care if we were enjoying our stay.

First of all let me say how sorry I am that your recent experience here at the Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa was not good. You are correct that our pet fees did change from $25 to $50 and we fully intended to maintain our amenities for our pet guests. Covid 19 did change many things at the hotel and what we were able to offer. We had to eliminate many things that were standard for us pre-Covid. The changes to the happy hours caused us to try to find other options for our guests. Our offering currently has to be pre-packaged for individual service and finding items like we were serving was not possible at this time. The other items listed about the missing eggs, the sign up sheet with chatting employees is a training issue for me and it will be corrected. Our balconies are standing balconies and do not have furniture out on them for that reason. They are simply there to step out and look at the river views. It is my hope that we are allowed the opportunity to correct the issues that we failed to meet your expectations so I would really appreciate your contacting me so that we can discuss how best we can accomplish that. Feel free to call me at 503-325-4996 x 171 Don West General Manager

This was our 3rd or 4th stay. Covid has really impacted the quality of the experience.

1. We used to love the wine and cheese happy hour. This has been changed to a delivered to your room appetizers thing, the first night only. Our “package” consisted two single serve cups of wine, four single served, prewrapped packages of Tillamook cheddar, and 4 prewrapped packages of saltines. The chintziness of this offering would have been excusable if (1) the price of the room had gone down to accommodate the lack of lovely happy hour or (2) the had delivered this thing each night we were there. To advertise it as just a change delivery is laughable.

2. The breakfast is served by staff instead of self serve. The food is fine, but the young woman serving was surly and rude.

2. No housekeeping. You can call if you need something, this was fine, except there was no provision for emptying trash, and only two tiny trash cans. Would it have hurt them to provide more trash cans, extra amenities, etc, so we didn’t have to keep calling down?

I am really sad but I am not sure I will be returning. This has definitely gone downhill.

You are correct about Covid causing us to have to change our services. I am sorry that your connection with the staff at breakfast was not good but training will change that very quickly. We were having to take selected pre-packaged items to each room for breakfast each day and only started the served continental breakfast in the lobby a few weeks ago. Your suggestion of having additional trash cans is a good one for our guests who staying for more than one night. We are in the process of bringing back the reception in the lobby from 5pm to 6pm daily but need to have the process in place to make it nice for our guests as well as safe for all. I appreciate your comments and they will really be taken and used to make the experience for our guests the best it can be. Thank you for staying with us and we all do hope that you will give another chance in the future.

Overall, my stay was very good. The pre-arrival experience with the concierge reaching out via text was great and they were very responsive. At check-in they knew of my requests and made it happen! The quality of the room renovation they they just completed is exceptional. They have included some luxurious touches that you don't often find, even in luxury hotels. Thought was put into every detail of the new rooms, right down to the quality of the hangers in the closet and the coffee cups and coffee service. The bed was also very comfortable.

The staff was extremely friendly and the ammenities are readily availble. They staff even offered to accommodate requests if you could not be there at exactly happy hour, breakfast, etc.

The only challenge I had was with the continental breakfast. It is listed as Sunrise Breakfast on the website, which is fine, but unclear that it is only continental. I am sure I missed somewhere that it was listed as continental, but if I am missing it, other guests are too.

Regardless, the display and breakfast items were very similar to a limited service airport hotel instead of having the quality one might expect at this price point. I know the kitchen space is limited, but they still could have some beautiful muffins or bagels and cream cheese. Perhaps from a local source? I suggest getting rid of the frozen egg products adn pastries and put out real breads, cheeses and jams and fruit instead of the cheap stuff. (One of the attendants even commented on how the snacks are frozen and she didn't know what one of them was until she got hungry and ate one.)

The second challenge with breakfast was that the tables in the lobby were filthy. The first day there didn't seem to be an attendant at all. The second day there were two breakfast attendants. I had to ask one for a cleaning rag to wipe off a table before I ate. Again, when paying over $500 for a room, you hope not to have to ask for clean table or buss your own dishes for that matter. These are just two suggestions. There was no place on the management survey to list these suggestions, or I would have done it there instead of this review.

Otherwise, everything was truley fantastic and I am likely to return. Overall, they are doing most things right and they create an enjoyable stay.

My husband and I have fond memories of this place as we were married nearby and spent our first married night at the Cannery Pier Hotel. I expected some changes upon this visit due to Covid. However, it was incredibly sub par for the price paid. The replacement for the usual afternoon social hour was two cups of cheap wine, individually wrapped Tillamook cheese and club crackers- but only on your first night, mind you. Coffee supplies were not refilled in the room, which was expected, but there was nothing set up to pick up or have them delivered.
The first night we were there, the fireplace didn't work (it was rainy and cold.) And then we realized there is no AC - the next two days were quite warm.

In addition, it was my husband's birthday, which is why we were traveling. We told them this and they simply said, Happy Birthday. No card in the room- nothing.

For how much you end up paying per night (about $450 including taxes) this is no better than a Holiday Inn, which is where we will likely be staying next time we go to Astoria.

Thank you for your response concerning your recent stay. I understand how you feel and must apologize for our lack of information about our services during the pandemic. While we do not offer stay over housekeeping service we do offer replacement amenities (coffee, bath amenities, towels and robes) upon request. I am sorry that was not communicated to you at the time of check in. We have struggled with supplies during the pandemic and our wine availability has been one of those items. We have to provide in a sealed container, due to the pandemic, since we were unable to do our normal wine and appetizer social hour. We are at a point now that in the near future we will be bringing back our social hour with some Covid related restrictions in our lobby and we will be starting our car service on the weekends also. Our hotel has never had air conditioning since it's opening in 2005 and over the years we have had only a few days a year where the heat was oppressive. That being said we are working on a plan to install air conditioning on our next renovation. Birthdays are important to everyone and it has always been that we send a card to the room for any guest celebrating a birthday as long as we know about it in advance. I am truly sorry we missed your husbands. Thank you again for staying with us and we all hope that you will give us another chance in the future.

This was our fifth stay at the Cannery Pier and it was another wonderful stay. The rooms are sensational, especially with the Columbia rolling by and all rooms with a river view. The breakfast is magnificent, especially because so many items are gluten free (my wife has Celiac disease). Very nice to see that all the guests wore masks in the hallways and lobbies, especially during afternoon receptions and morning breakfasts. Staff still exceptional!

HI there, yes, they are very family friendly. I'd suggest the Pilot House as it has 2 bedrooms and a nice sofa, not to mention full kitchen. Otherwise, the king rooms are fantastic. You can rent bikes, and downtown is just minutes away. I absolutely love this hotel, and can't say enough good things about staying there..whether you are 10 or 70.

Yes. It is on the dock close to front door. I have a vague recollection that there was handicap parking next to the hotel. You could call and ask.
