Travellers' Choice
Located in the heart of the Historic District, The DeSoto reigns as “Savannah’s hotel.” She is a beloved landmark that has played a gracious hostess to presidents, celebrities and visitors since 1890. Treasured period details, including original crystal chandeliers and terracotta tiles, mix seamlessly with contemporary art, creating a thoughtful juxtaposition between history and modern-day style. When you stay at The DeSoto, you're within walking distance of so many famous attractions including Forsyth Park, River Street and City Market. You'll love the view over beautiful Madison Square from our rooftop pool and patio. Dine in one of two on-site chef-driven restaurants (Proof & Provision or 1540 Room). With over 20,000 sq. feet, our meeting and event space features panoramic views of the city, perfect for any gathering, business event or wedding reception.

I have never had a worst stay in a hotel. I didn't get one night of full sleep. Every night there was a weird clicking noise at my door as if someone was trying to unlock it. I never figured out what caused the almost constant noise. Also the noise from outside was unbearable. One early morning a van, a block up (toward the river) backed up for 30 min causing the back up warning sound to come on for 30 min. I finally got out of bed to see what was happening and saw a van pull forward 6 feet or so, then back up at least 10 times before I finally got back in bed and the noise continued. On my first morning, I was awakened from my sleep at 6 or 7 because of an odor so putrid that I thought the toilet had backed up. I called downstairs and they said they had no idea what it was and would send someone up. They never did, but in the meantime I realized that it was coming from outside. I called back downstairs to cancel the request for service and this person confirmed that it was coming from the paper plant. I asked why didn't the first person tell me and of course he didnt know. My back is sore as if I went on a roller coaster. The shower flow wasn't great. The bathroom needs a soapy wash down of the front of the sink. The tub needs a comet cleasing and refinishing. The vent over the tub was clogged with dust. The nobs on the shower door were close to falling off, they just took a 5 second twist to repair, so why didn't housekeeping do that? They don't clean the hotel room during your stay but they will provide limited services upon request. This means they have far fewer rooms to clean...therefore your room should be exceptionally clean when you check in. I used my Clorox wipes in the bathroom. The floor was dirty and the front of the sink was dirty. Lastly, the rooms need better care. During the height of the pandemic when the city was closed, they should've used their maintenance staff and other staff to repair and clean the rooms. What did they do with their CARES Act money. YOU NEED TO SOUND PROOF YOUR WINDOWS. YOU NEED A BETTER VENTILATION SYSTEM SO THE PUTRID ODOR ISN'T AS STRONG. room 1011. I do not recommend this room. Consistent noise both outdoor and indoor are the weakest points of the room. Also the elevators were all out for a period of time which is another sign of poor maintenance.

The room was very nice, the balcony view was EVERYTHING😍😍😍 They allowed me to check in early and answered my concerns regarding incidentals. The elevators were inoperable for about 30 minutes but they resolved the problem quickly.

A HUGE shout out to Chris the manager. He made our stay happen. Originally had issues from an outside source trying to make reservations, and when I called the hotel very confused, Chris stepped in. Great guy! The hotel is in a quieter area, but an arms length away from everything. The hotel staff was great, Katie the waitress is awesome. The restaurant food was very tasty! They are short staffed, just like everyone else, and can only do with what they have, what else can they do? The staff made it work! Julie the concierge hooked us up with a personal taxi to make sure we got to Tybee Island, and then back. The hotel itself is lovely. Rooms need a little TLC, but it was totally fine. Great view, comfy bed! I'm pretty sure whenever things return back to more of a normal situation, they will be able to spruce things up, but again, nothing that was noticed that much! It was beautiful.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony city view with king. The higher up, the better.

This was my wife and I’s first time visiting savannah and we booked this hotel based off reviews online. We booked the king bed with balcony and it has not disappointed. When we arrived we were greeted by Frank (the valet guy) out front and he offered to take our bags out of our car and inside while we checked in. (This valet service is a charge but it beats walking half a mile from the nearest parking garage with all your stuff and each time you wanna drive somewhere). The check in was super easy and everyone in the hotel was nice and greeted us. Frank followed us up to our room and unloaded our bags for us, he recommended a few local places to eat and made sure we were all set. The room is in great condition and the bed is super soft. The view of the city is alone worth the price of the room. Overall, we will definitely be back and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious stay in the historic city of Savannah.

Scheduled this hotel last minute for a weekend trip. It’s conveniently close to the river walk. Yet, for paying over 350 dollars the bathroom tub wasn’t clean, none of the soap was in the actual bottles, and the beds were uncomfortable. I’m not usually a stickler but I shouldn’t feel that uncomfortable standing the shower.
