After staying at the gorgeous McKinley Chalet in Denali, we sure were in for a surprise. After finding used tooth floss in the bathroom and seeing stains on the bedspread, we were a bit taken aback. We took a walk to the downtown area to...More
Very nice downtown hotel. Downside - no refrigerator. Walking distance to a lot of attractions. The Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitors Center is a must do. The food and atmosphere was excellant at the restaurant/bar.
As a hotel for Holland America cruise customers, the rooms were well below their great standards on the ship. We found hair around the bathtub, missing towels and pillows, garbage in the ice bucket, missing cups, and a dirty counter. We couldn't even call the...More
My wife and I, along with our granddaughter, stayed here for two nights at the beginning of our Holland America 13 day Land & Sea Cruise. The room was very nice, with comfortable beds and plenty of room. The hotel was clean and quiet. The...More
The staff is friendly, the breakfast was good, but this hotel is shabby and our room was not clean. We arrived late, about 9:30pm, and waited an hour for our luggage. There was a button battery on the bedspread, and used soap in the shower....More

I suggest visiting Chena Hot Springs...there is a tour van that will pick you up and bring you back to your hotel. You can see moose and maybe a bear along the way. Bring your swim suit. The food at the hot springs is quite good. Another good tour is the Riverboat Discovery...you can take a cab or there is likely a bus that swings by the hotel to pick up guests for the boat trip on the Chena River. Pioneer Park (aka Alaska-Land) is free and quite interesting -- there is a riverboat, a Native village, shops, cafes, places for a picnic. The University of Alaska Museum is a first class attraction too.

We stayed in the North Tower, which is where our cruise line (Holland America) booked us. Not sure how it relates to the other tower but overall very disappointed with this hotel and not up to other standards booked by Holland America. Breakfast EXPENSIVE, with few choices and poor quality. We arrived late in the day and one couple in our party was checked in to a room that had not been cleaned with vomit in the toilet. Management totally non-responsive to our complaints.
