Everything was clean and nicely done, but with room for improvement such as: loud guests who Yell and Scream for 3 hours and don’t get warned about that, breakfast should have more hot meals to eat, and the room service should put new shower gels and stuff every day, as well as new towels since our towels were taken away.

Response from Steinmann D, Front Office Manager at Red Lion Inn and Suites Brooklyn
Responded 23 Dec 2017
Iva Z: Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments here. This helps us tremendously. I am sorry that you were disturbed by neighboring guests. Was this something of which you made the Front Desk aware and we still didn't provide assistance? We certainly want to ensure that all our guests are having a great time at our property and would have been more than happy to intervene in this scenario. It seems that we neglected to replenish your shower gels and towels. These are essentials so I am also very sorry about that. Thank you for your note about hot foods offered during Breakfast. What other hot foods did you have in mind? Best regards!

Let me start off with I am a hotel snob. I only like 4 stars or higher. I'm very picky about where I sleep. With that being said I have not any complaints about this hotel. I was given this hotel on Hotwire and was disappointed by the brand since I didn't know the name of hotel until I paid. With the negative reviews I was going to book a Hyatt and stay in the city on 31st. I decided to keep it and take a gamble.
The rooms were nice!! Yes, small but that's NYC for you. Rooms are modern, very clean. Granite in bathrooms, a mini fridge. I would say no more than two people for comfort, 3 is pushing it.
We had the six floor, room 615. Even a decent view. The staff was nice, always helpful. Breakfast was good and free. It's about a 10-12 minute walk to Atlantic and 4th subway. Take Butler to 4th and about 10 stops you are at Times Square. Oh did I mention I got hotel for $450 total for 3 nights!! Included taxes.
Now, on Butler there are nothing but small business shops like auto repair. And yes, graffiti everywhere. I walked from train at night alone and felt fine. A few of the shops were open. If you want a better walking view pay for it in the city.
Flatbush is a short walk and plenty to do. Shopping, restaurants, people everywhere.
It was my first Brooklyn stay. I loved it!
You can take train to Harlem also. Btw, train is $2.75 per ride. Get a Metro card and add money based on your needs. Or get unlimited card for $32
I noticed the negative reviews are more about one personal issue, not actually about quality of the hotel! Which is really sad to me. This is more like a boutique hotel. Save some money and enjoy the greatest city in the USA! I'd definitely stay here again. Also, if you are going to Barclays center you can walk there in 15 minutes.
My pictures aren't the greatest because I was capturing myself instead of the room. Lol Hopefully, they help a bit.

We stayed at the Red Lion for four nights during September.
We booked through Expedia and chose the hotel due to the reasonable price and its location to a number of different subways.

The hotel is easy to find, don't be concerned with the neighbourhood (it's next door to a street vender storage facility) we felt safe even walking back to the hotel at midnight.

On arrival I wouldn't have said the staff were the friendliest, the lady was polite but different offer any advice, information about the hotel etc and was a little rude when I informed her that I wanted to pay cash. I only knew about the cash deposit due to reading other reviews on Trip Advisor, which was $70.

The room was quite large (we booked a king size with a jacuzzi bath) with air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. There was no safe in the room, which was disappointing.
The shower also didn't work, the bath did which was deep and filled up quite quickly.

We only went to breakfast once, more due to wanting to get out and explore as early as possible and we found an amazing deli next to Union St station which served hot toasted bagels which were amazing!

We met various different members of staff during our stay and all were the same in terms of not really bothered about us or any other guests and gave an unapproachable attitude which apart from the shower and safe were the only negatives.

We were happy to walk a lot during our stay, if you stay here and want to explore Manhattan then I would recommend being quite fit and happy to do so, even though the subways are close by, there is a large amount of up and down stairs to contend with and it's a 15 min walk from the hotel to a main station.

We ended up here by accident. We had reservations at the other Red Lion property, which is very nice. Our taxi brought us to the Butler property and two men met us outside, telling us we couldn’t stay there and it was out of commission. It seemed like a homeless shelter and later I found out it was.

Initially I was leary about the hotel because I booked on Priceline Exclusive. The reviews that are posted on this site invoked more anxiety. The service that I received from the moment that I checked in until check out has to be commended!! The staff is friendly and very helpful. The price of the hotel was great as Manhattan was out of my budget. I felt safe walking from the subway station at 2am. The free breakfast was great. The rooms are small but that is common in New York City. My family took advantage of the dining area which was always clean. Glenn helped me obtain transportation to the airport for a reasonable rate. The hotel offers free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate 24/7. I did not have a microwave in my room but that was fine because there is one available for use in the dining area. There is a small gas station near the hotel which does not close but the selection is small. The room was modern and included a small closet. There is additional storage area under the T.V. The bathroom was clean with modern fixtures. We did not spend a great amount of time in the room because there is so much to do in NYC. The staff was helpful with suggestions on where to order food and how to navigate in Brooklyn. I will stay here again!!! Yes this is a warehouse district but that did not bother me. The blackout windows are awesome. There are plenty of cable channels and outlets to plug in electronics (even for a family of four) Sorry but I have NO complaints. My deposit was refunded within 5 days. I would suggest arriving early for breakfast because it gets crowded towards closing time.

I was given a horrible room in the basement. I cannot even imagine what kind of shady business goes on in this hotel, suffice to say a few of the other "guests" on the same floor were going in and out of their rooms at regular intervals (about 30mins) THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. imagine trying to get some sleep with doors being loudly slammed every half an hour, literally the whole night long. When i checked out in the morning, a group of sketchy people was loitering outside.
another warning: they charge a $75 "incidental" fee, even when you pay for the reservation in full beforehand. of course, so far, they conveniently "forgot" to return the fee, which means I will have to spend time and energy to call them and ask for my money back - just one more proof of how the utter lack of respect for their clients.
Simply not worth it. Pick any other place.

Responded 30 Nov 2016
Hello Annabluebird6, I apologize for the experience at our hotel during your stay. We do have rooms at the garden level which offers a view of our garden and provides a lot of natural light due to having a larger window. We do not in any way attempt to hide the fact these rooms are 50% below level, as a matter of fact, the "C" on the elevator stands for "Cellar". With regards to the $75 incidental authorization placed on your credit card, it is standard that we authorize each guest's credit card with a small fee in the event that they would like to purchase items from our sundries' pantry or bill any miscellaneous items'services to their room. I can guarantee that the authorization will return back to your account within 5-7 business days depending on your credit card provider. The refund is done automatically when you check out if the fees are not utilized during your stay. It was not an oversight on our part to err in refunding the $75 fee. I wish that the guests that stayed on your floor that night were not so active in the middle of the night but that is outside of our control. I would very much like another chance to rectify your stay with us. Please reach out to me directly so we can discuss further. Regards,

I took train from Penn Station, due to coming from a friend's house in NJ. I took Uber to airport at end of my vacation, I think I paid about $25-30. It took 30 mins, well longer because we had pick up on the way. It all depends on traffic and other factors. I say budget for $50.
