Friendly front desk and accommodating . Rooms in the third floor have a great view of the lake. Basic rooms, outdated furniture & not so clean hallways. We could do better, oh well it will be ok! Breakfast included , near downtown and other amenities. Windows do not lock properly.

Every fall, for decades, we have stayed at the Aspen Lodge. And every fall, for decades, we check out the other Grand Marais properties, and still come back here for the best value. But this year the property was looking more tired, plus the sink in our room was cracked as was the vinyl flooring by the tub. Breakfast offerings... More

We stayed here during a trip to the north Shore. Rooms have not been updated for quite some time. Mattresses are torn and stained, the carpet was filthy, didn't look like it had been vacuumed. Beds are hard as a rock and pillows are flat. I had to use pillows as a mattress topper! Complained at front desk and was... More

Aspen lodge definitely gets a five star rating all thanks to DEB at the front desk!!! We had made a reservation for spruce glen and upon arrival realized you had to check in at aspen lodge. When we got to the room as Spruce Glen it was horrible. The door was wide open and the room was musty. After traveling... More

We were doing the North Shore Falls Drive and unfortunately did not book a hotel in advance. We found a room at the Aspen and were very unhappy that we stayed here. The prices were high, the carpet was dirty in our room and the faucet was so hard to turn on that we had to pull with two hands.... More

This hotel has a good location to walk into Grand Marais. The rooms are from the 60's and need some maintenance like carpet cleaning. It was adequate for the little time we spent in the room. Watch the strict cancellation policy.

The check-in time was longer then reasonable. One person on the desk and difficulty checking in. The carpet in the room needed to be cleaned, the carpet edge along the tile at the Jacuzzi was pulling ahead and the tack strip was exposed. The exterior doors into the building were not secured at all day or night. The room was... More

The staff was nice, and the location was good, but this hotel is really run down. They need new carpets (ours was badly stained) and lots of little updates overall. The size of our room was GREAT- A king in one room with 2 queens attached- perfect for our family of 5. But that was the nicest thing I can... More

Upon arrival we noticed the building looked run down on the outside. The lobby wasn't too bad, needs updating though. The place doesn't smell very clean. The hallways were dirty and also smelled bad. We got checked in and went to our room...again "smelly " & ver hot and stuffy. Turned the ac on and took a quick look around... More
