We have watched the film Zulu many times and on our last trip to SA we were told about this amazing place Fugitives Drift. We met Doug and Andrew Rattray who each took us to the battlefields, their account of history was exceptional and very moving. This is where back in 1879 139 British soldiers were attacked by 4,000 Zulu...

Room-absolutely lovely and relaxing-private ground floor looking onto bush-very large room and bathroom with separate bath with views of bush as well. Food was excellent-substantial and very varied. Surroundings-deep in the bush with Giraffes and Zebra and other wildlife in close proximity The 2 trips to the battlefields were a total and learned immersion as you are taken through the...

The sat nav has no knowledge of this lodge so we drove with a rather useless battlefields map! 40 kms of murram road got us to Rorkes Drift, and finally we made it to the lodge gates. From then on it was gr at with giraffe stopping for photographs, and zebra on the road. The lodge bedrooms are very comfortable...

Both my husband and I have talked for many years about making a trip to understand better the events at Isandlawana and Rorkes Drift. We were invited to spend Christmas with family in the South Drakensberg area and when we realised how relatively near we could be to the battle sites we booked three nights at Fugitives Drift Lodge. The...

Fugitive's Drift Lodge is an excellent place to stay if you are interested in the Anglo-Zulu War. The setting is beautiful. The tours and story telling at Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift superb – detailed historical research, moving and inspiring delivery. The Lodge itself is very comfortable. Large ‘cottages’ with lovely views, very well equipped, and even air con (when the...

The guides are the most impressive part to this stay! - The setting is incredible. But the historical recounts of the battles and the level of detail provided by the guides at Fugitives Drift is quite special. if you have a specific interest too they will taylor it for you. The hotel itself is fairly basic and the pool was...

We traveled to Fugitive's Drift Lodge to visit Rorke's Drift which, of course, in the main reason for people visiting. This is one of the most luxurious lodges in which we have stayed in Africa and we were accommodated in two of the recently refurbished rooms which have been completed to a very high standard with plenty of creature comforts....

A fascinating 3 days spent learning and experiencing the history of Zulu engagement with the British as Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. The Lodge is a lovely place to stay. The people welcoming and charming.

We spent two nights at Fugitives Drift and thoroughly enjoyed it. We drove from Ballito....north of Durban and although it was a good journey we found it took longer than the suggested times. The 40 kilometres along dirt roads to access the property were also much better than we expected. We arrived in time for lunch....had a warm welcome and...

Be prepared for a rough ride on the poor roads leading to this place. Good welcome and introduction. As stated elsewhere this is not 5 star accommodation or food although both are adequate and many would find it quaint and old fashioned although it does have a unique charm all it's own. The staff is uniformly of high quality and...
