Travellers' Choice
Strawberry Hill's individual cabins incorporate features of a typical Indonesian mountain-style residence, such as wood floors, and wooden-clad walls. Each has a comfortable, colourful and cozy interior, a balcony facing one of Bedugul's dormant volcanoes, and its own en-suite bathroom complete with bathtub and plenty of hot water, for those unexpectedly cool high-altitude evenings. Our restaurant serves tasty Indonesian and international favourites, and on cool nights boasts Bali's only real log fire!

We stayed here for 2 nights. The wooden cottages were lovely! They have tea/coffee making facilities and a nice bathroom with bath and shower. The garden is very nice too, with a pond and small strawberry garden. You can have your breakfast served in your cottage if you please. The staff of the restaurant and reception were super friendly. They even prepared take out lunch for us when we went for a day out to the botanical gardens. The botanical garden is a great day trip from the hotel, if you do it by foot like us. It was a bit chilly in the area when we were there, but that is to be expected at that height! And the hotel does offer hot water bottles or there’s a fireplace at the restaurant to warm up. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this place to

Spent a night at Strawberry Hills as part of a tour. The room was simple but well put together - cosy and comfortable, and everything worked. The restaurant is good and very reasonable. The fresh strawberry waffles are very good, and the sekoteng hot drink is very tasty (and tangy!) The slightly cooler climate here makes for a very comfortable night's sleep.

We stayed here only one night so had lunch at their restorant and food is nothing good.. in a place like this i imagined more, but its okey. Nothing to do around here.. we already had visited their tample on a lake so really nothing to do. Also they forgot our breakfast so we had to go and order it again and when we finally got it, eggs where raw or even rotten(not sure).. :D

Eggs rotten? Nope, and better unsaid if unsure :D The food has a lot that's good. It's mainly Indonesian, yes, as we are quite a simple sort of place, and aimed at travellers, rather than just tourists. There's plenty to do and see around Bedugul, other than just the temple and lake - we do list several activities and places to visit, and also offer the services of an excellent guide for trekking and walking in the area.

We stopped at Strawberry Hill during our tour around Bali. Having arrived in the afternoon the place seemed hidden and cold, although the rooms are great, little warm cottages with all amenities. But the morning was a full surprise with all the colors of the garden. The restaurant service is a bit slow but everybody is so kind, you barely notice the delay. Would love to come back

Hi, I do not write reviews a lot, but I do make an occasion on this one! The cottages look really cute and the garden is clean and well designed! When you enter the room, it smells duff (not good), it kinda smells like old wood in your basement. The room was quite cold. Your hotel is situated at an elevation of 1400m and you did not even provide a small heater in the rooms. The service at your restaurant was not the standard I was used to! The plates were never taken off the table before the other plates arrived! The garçon did not let us taste the wine before we could drink it and the rose was disgusting! The food was not that good. I am sorry for writing such a review, but this was my honest opinion. Cheers

We welcome your honest opinion, and we try to learn from constructive comments, and improve things. Indeed August is the coolest month of the year, during which temperatures can drop to 22 C daytime, and as low as 15 C in the middle of the night. Not I'm afraid justification for installing heating in every room. Guests sometimes arrive in Bedugul dressed without any expectation of feeling cold in Indonesia. We will research small heaters again - we did so, but heaters are not found anywhere in Indonesia, either in homes, hotels, or for sale, as they are so rarely necessary, and they use so much power. We would need to source them overseas. We do offer hot water bottles for your bed, advertising the fact in the rooms, and our duvets are cosy. There's a log fire in the restaurant - just about unique in Indonesia. We do our level best to keep all rooms smelling fresh - it's quite a challenge, as humidity is high even in August, and in recent years there's been an abnormal amount of daily cloud, rain, and mist. There often simply are not enough hours of sunlight to warm up the rooms sufficiently to remove the dampness. We cannot provide air-conditioning, as this leads to more dampness whenever it's turned off, and our hotel is not a block of rooms. We do have several de-humidifiers, which we rotate between rooms while they are empty - this is very effective in fact, and our housekeeping store is dehumidified at all times. We also have heat lamps in every room, which are turned on only whenever the room is unoccupied, because they are unsightly and bright. We open windows each and every day to ventilate the rooms and to equalise the outside and inside air. In short, we do our very best. But sometimes the conditions get the better of us, and it's probable that during August we've been running quite full, and the de-humidifier rotation has lapsed. We're very sorry, and we'll be trying harder.. I'm sorry you were not used to such poor service in other restaurants. We try to make sure that our service is friendly and helpful. But we wouldn't dream of claiming that Strawberry Hill is in the 5-star league in terms of staff training/professionalism, culinary excellence, or room rates. We note - and thank you for - your comments about not removing plates. This happens when we are busy, but that's not an excuse, and we'll do more training. Your point about the wine is noted, although we would just mention that all our wines are local or use imported fermented grapes from Australia, and all are screw-top - many guests tell the waiters that it's not necessary to taste such wine, so they get confused!
