Nice hotel, staff very friendly, made a fuss of because we are on honeymoon, which was nice. Only problem was hubby didn't like wearing tie and jacket to dinner, there was another restaurant but they really wanted us to eat in the main one! Very old fashioned style but quaint!

A lovely experience, from the drive up the flower and ancient tree-lined drive that leads to the ivy-covered reception portico to the hospitality extended to us by the staff throughout our stay! The gracious ambiance of this classic British Club facility is well preserved. Our superior room was large and classically appointed with all amenities required for a comfortable stay,...

Dear Guests, Thank you for your review. It gave me great pleasure to note that we met your expectations in service and product. Your suggestion to have a "rug" has been looked into and implemented immediately. Thank you for having stayed with us and giving us the opportunity to be of Service to you. Warm Regards Somerset.

If you look very carefully, you can find ways to criticise this establishment. However, go with an open mind and enjoy it for what it is.....a piece of history. There are very few places in South East Asia that can offer this type of Colonial experience. The Hill Club is right up there with the best. I long to return....

This hotel offers an incongruous and intense Sri Lanka experience; it's also excellent value for money at the current price. The general air of faded grandeur and the retention of bygone standards (dressing for dinner, repairing to the fire for tea and petit fours after the meal, the billiards room, the signposted "ladies entrance") made me think long and hard...

This is a precious jewel from a bygone era. The building and some of its contents have a well worn feel about them, but many aspects of its gentleman's club origins remain. While we were waiting to check in, I was whisked away by a staff member to show me the formal dining room, where I was happy to make...

Beautiful exterior, well manicured garden, pleasant and helpful staff. The rooms could use a bit of updating. The lunch we had (although we arrived later, they kept the kitchen open and served us) was decent - it was nice to take a break from all the Rice and Curry we had been having for the past 4/5 days. Good fish...

What an amazing place. A little faded, a little old but oh so grand. Dressing up for dinner was amazing, the ambience and the food fabulous. I loved the old style service, having my chair pulled out for me by a waiter in white gloves. It was cold so pre-dinner drinks were had by the open fire. I loved this...

I visited this hotel as part of a tour of Sri Lanka and was very impressed by the quality of service and food. As long as you accept that the place was built in the 20's and has not changed much since, you will also like the decor and general ambiance. The altitude of the town meant that the weather...

Although the place is very impressive on the exterior, the room and the service are very bad. On our stay, there was no hot water. No wifi. Screechy beds. Very noisy when it rains outside. No one to talk to at reception after 23:30. Very cold rooms. Choose different accommodation if you can.

While staying in Nuwara Eliya my wife and I took the opportunity to have a dinner at the Hill Club, only stipulation was to become temporary members for the day (100Rs each) and as a gentleman wear a tie to enter the formal dining room. Ties are provided for guests arriving without. The dining area and cocktail lounge takes a...
