The room was creepy and smelled old and not really clean. It was all kind of badly taken care of but it seems it is a typical style of this city... The situation was good though, right in the middle of French Quarter but in a street with no bars an no noise. They have parking if you reserve but... More

You don't go to the French Quarter for modern conveniences, spotless paint, pristine sidewalks, and genteel crowds. You go for the funky, shabby vibe, friendly people, run-down bars with peeling paint, cracked and heaved pavement, loud boisterous crowds and some of the best music and food in the world. The Villa Convento fits right in. It's on a relatively quiet... More

There is a difference between having character and being shabby or run down. The lobby is interesting, the courtyard was quaint, but with all respect to the owners and past reviewers, my room was shabby. The furnishings in my room were not period; they are thrift store finds and maybe thrift store rejects. The dresser in my room was a... More

My bride introduced me to this treasure shortly after we married almost 35 years ago. It has been our base for visiting the French Quarter for all but one trip since. This quiet inn on Urslines, between Royal and Chartres, is not large, but is convenient, comfortable, and cost-friendly. Just writing this pulls me to plan a Big Easy trip... More

We spent 4 nights at the Villa Convento recently. While the room could have used a bit of paint, the bed was very comfortable, size of the room was adequate, cleanliness was good and the owner was very helpful. The location was in a nice quiet area of the quarter, near the french market, with everything else in easy walking... More

Enjoyed staying at this hotel close to the French Market and within walking distance of the whole French Quarter. Although basic, the room was lovely with its authentic decor. The design of the hotel took us back in time and we loved being there. I recommend booking a room with a balcony if possible.

This is a family owned property that we always call. It's in a quiet part the quarter with cozy rooms that are priced right. We have stayed here for the past 15 or 20 years and hope they will be open for a long long time. If you need turn down service and a piece of chocolate on your pillow,... More

A few friends and myself went on a mini-vacation to NOLA and wanted to stay in the French Quarter without breaking the bank. This was an AMAZING location- far enough away from the commotion that we could sleep at night, yet close enough to walk to everything. Yes the hotel is older but that definitely added to the charm. Our... More

We stayed for two nights and the hotel staff were really friendly, happy to book tours and give advice on where to eat etc. A big bonus for us was the parking, which is about a 5 min walk from the hotel. The hotel its self is in a great location, easy walking distance to everything we wanted to do... More

My friends and I checked into Room 103 at the Hotel Villa Convento for a two night, three day stay. On the second day, when we returned to our room after being out for approximately 7 hours, we discovered that the contents of three out of four of our suitcases were soaking wet. We immediately went to the front desk... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
