While a charming hotel with lots of character, you may not want to stay here if you are not in good shape or want a better bang for your buck. There is no elevator to the 2nd floor, so you will have to walk up and down the classic looking staircase. If you should get a room on the third...

It is obvious from earlier reviews that lots of people out there love the Soniat House but no hotel can please everyone. Everything that you say is true. The elevator is small and slow but we are not a new construction high-rise . We are an 1830 home. It is the only type of elevator available to us. It services...

What a delightful place to spend in New Orleans. The service and the rooms were wonderful. The breakfast, which is available until 11:30 pm, is beautifully served and the biscuits are to die for. the location could not be better. Highly recommend staying here.

This historic boutique hotel is located in the heart of French quarter. Central enough but away from the bustling and lively bourbon St, the Soniat house is a real gem. Quiet and romantic, the room we booked was located on the ground floor facing the courtyard, beautifully decorated with period pieces and we felt right at home. The staff is...

The Soniat House fulfills every fantasy one could have of a French Quarter hotel arranged around its perfect and quiet courtyard. Rooms are charmingly decorated, luxurious, spacious, and utterly unique. I would stay nowhere else: having been graced with past stays in one of the Soniat House's best suites I would decline to return to New Orleans if there was...

It is really thrilling to read that you would not return to New Orleans if you could not get a room at the Soniat House. I have to admit to hearing that often but no one has ever been kind enough to write it on a public forum. Thank you very much. Please hurry back.

Great place, great service, personable and professional. Same faces After 20 years! The breakfast is fine, very good coffee and the best biscuits ever,. Location actually easy for quarter or beyond. We were in and out of uptown and the quarter and mid-city all without difficulty.

We have had the good fortune to visit wonderful hotels all over the world and we choose to return to Soniat House year after year. I appreciate the staff addressing me by my name instead of being a number at a larger hotel. I love having my coffee and biscuits served on a silver tray instead of making my own...

the soniat house is a charming small hotel on Chartres street in the French quarter. we had two grand suite rooms and they are spacious and very clean. the hotel is well situated on a quiet street. suite 28 has a large Chartres street facing balcony and #60 has a smaller balcony. suite 28 is kind of dark but there...

Thank you for your kind review. Quite honestly we have had a few ( but just a few ) complaints in over 30 years about plumbing sounds only from quests in that magnificent suite. We are constantly searching for the solution. We have had the complaint when room #29 was not occupied so the problem is more complicated than it...

The Soniat House actually comprises several historic buildings on two sides of Chartres Street, adjacent to the old Ursuline Convent. They have been meticulously restored and seamlessly combined to create an elegant and stylish oasis that is unpretentious and welcoming, with much of its appeal lying in its deceptive simplicity. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the...

Stayed at Soniat House for one night on a work trip. It is not a good place to stay for business but could be nice for a vacation if you want to splurge on your hotel. The staff seemed very considerate and accommodating but everything is a bit stiff and slow. The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting...

The Front Door is always locked to protect the privacy of the guests and the tranquility of the hotel. Believe me - if we leave it open for even 5 minutes we have total strangers wandering about and even taking photographs. Having been included in "1000 Places to see before you die" is quite an honor but it has added...

We have mixed feeling about the Soniat. This was our first stay, although we have been frequent visitors to New Orleans. This was a splurge. We had a junior suite at $450 a night. It was just rehabbed and was modern and sharp. After a couple nights, due to an inconsequential problem, they upgraded us at no charge to a...

Our dream is that all of the visitors to the Soniat House feel that they are guests in a private home and not in a hotel. We have attempted to furnish our rooms and suites as we would guest rooms in our home. Most of our reviewers understand and feel that we have succeeded. When we opened in 1984 we...

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
