Chimes is special and I will definitely try to stay there on my return to NOLA. Not only is the location great (quiet, residential neighborhood with easy access downtown), lovely rooms and courtyard building, wonderful bakery with the breakfast, etc., but the owner Jill is an incredible resource for all things jazz (and a lovely person to talk to). If...

I have stayed at the Chimes twice, and plan to go back each time I am in New Orleans. The rooms are clean, cozy and offer all the comforts of home. Gathering at the breakfast table is the highlight, where owners Jill or Charles share a delicious breakfast, local stories, recommendations, and foster lively conversation among the patrons. I always...

I have stayed at this B & B since 2008 and, as of this past visit in November, experienced all of its five available rooms except one. The location of this B & B gives the traveler access to the streetcar, Garden District, and Uptown areas - all within easy reach. Restaurants are abundant - many within easy walking distance....

This was our 3rd visit to The Chimes but our first since Hurricane Katrina. Even though there had been MANY intervening years since our last trip, walking in the front door felt like coming home! And I was reminded of the very first review I read about The Chimes that prompted our first visit there. "There's just something special about...

Stayed for 3 nights. Located about 3 miles from the French Quarter but on direct street car route which is about a 3 minute walk from Chimes and runs frequently and a 24 hour service. Gill will sell you a 24 hour ticket for 3 dollars-Bargain as you can use it on all the network. Rooms are comfortable and all...

We arrived very early to leave our bags before heading off to sightsee, but ended up being invited to breakfast with the previous night's residents. This was typical of the hospitality offered by Jill and Charles. Breakfast was a time to exchange all sorts of views and opinions, not simply a formal 'hello, how are you?' formal exchange. Our room...

Beautiful B&B in a quiet residential area. Hosts Jill and Charles are wonderful and provide for all your needs. Our room was comfy and peaceful after a full day of exploring the city. Great place to stay in New Orleans!

We arrived ragged from travelling all day and Chimes was the perfect place to recover from our flights. We enjoyed strolling around the garden district and relaxing in the courtyard. We would recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to stay in this district.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on our first ever trip to New Orleans. We loved the quaint cottage feel of the courtyard and how each room had it's own entrance from the courtyard. We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard for a drink (available for purchase on site) or just to relax after a day of exploring. Our...

Jill and Charles made our stay sooo comfortable and pleasant. They have thought of everything to make it easy to enjoy New Orleans and their B and B. I loved the decor, the beds were comfortable, the self serve fridge, the maps, the breakfasts, the tasteful rooms, and most of all the wonderful morning discussions. I hope that they will...

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
