nice hotel. room 109 has a few issues. there is no curtain or shade above the entrance door. at night, the security light above the front door shines into the room and there is no way to block it out. in the morning the security light is replaced by the sun serving as an early wake up call. it was...

This iconic NOLA Hotel is perfectly situated in Frenchmen Street in the atmospheric French Quarter. the room boasts individually refurbished and decorated traditional rooms, with a small plunge pool and incredibly comfortable beds. For classic romantic luxury in the heart of this amazing city, look no further than this hotel. When we were there, the hotel had The Backbone Blues...

Tim, Thanks for the review. It should be known though that we are in the Marigny, not the French Quarter, though that is just across the street. The band was wonderful We hope to see you again real soon and maybe have another special performance of some sort.

Great location on Frenchman St. Great staff, beautiful area and hotel. Some things need a bit of work. The AC was LOUD, the toilet was very wobbly, the suitcase stand was broken -- not usable. It's an old building so one has to lower expectations.

This is a safe, secure, place to stay in New Orleans. It is a small, eclectic hotel that in a great location within walking distance to the French Quarter, Frenchman street clubs and restaurants. The prices are great! This last visit in October the lobby was decorated for Halloween and smelled like Autumn. So charming and cozy!

The Frenchmen is a typical NOLA hotel in that it is old. But, it is clean, comfortable, great staff, great location, food all around, in the heart of the Marigny and all the clubs and music on Frenchmen. I've stayed before, and I'll stay again when I need to be close to this location.

We love the Frenchman and always enjoy staying there. The staff is always helpful and the access to music is perfect. The only thing was the water in our shower was barely warm and never hot, this got a bit old but the rest of our stay was lovely.

Enjoyed our stay. Great location away from Bourbon Street and close to the clubs with great jazz music and the French Market. Loved the area. Front desk staff were super nice and helpful. Remember when reserving here, it's a traditional New Orleans style hotel so our room was dark with only one small window up high to the exterior and...

This "hotel" is crawling with rats. In one afternoon there we saw 5 rats, two of which were in the kitchen where we had eaten breakfast that day. When we contacted management, they tried to say "It's New Orleans, everywhere has rats" - but I think the health inspector would disagree. To their credit, they agreed to transfer us to...

Ainsley, Thank you taking the time to write. Sorry to hear of your difficulties. In fact all river cities do have rats, though we spend a fortune to keep them out of the buildings and with an exterminator, as with most properties in a river city, this is largely accomplished. I'm afraid I cannot speak to the issue of your...

Clean New Orleans hotel. Our second time staying here in the last few years. We really enjoy the location with jazz music, close to bourbon street, restaurants and shopping. Friendly staff, felt safe, comfortable beds.

The location on Frenchman is my favorite area of the city, and this hotel's feel really flows well with the character of New Orleans. I loved the courtyard, even if there weren't the lovely pool and hot tub right outside my door! The service was fantastic, as well!

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.

“I was warned to request a room NOT facing Frenchmen. I did not listen. It is very noisy but the sleeping pills fixed that. There are two suites in this hotel; one in our party had one suite and it was nice but too big for just the two of us who stayed in a room with two double beds. The suite had two balconys (one for each bedroom) facing Frenchmen and it was a treat to sit on the balcony.”
