This would have been a 5 star review except for the owner/proprietor Cleo. It is a beautiful property: high ceilings, nice details, comfortable beds, swimming pool in a nicely planted back yard. It is also an excellent location, a short block from the vibrant Frenchmen Street scene and close to the French Quarter. But....Cleo the owner/proprietor is unsuited, in my... More

My husband and I made our first trip to New Orleans in early April and we were not disappointed. Our stay at The Claiborne Mansion was perfect. When we walked in and saw the huge ceilings we knew we had found the right place. The suite we stayed in was beautiful as was the courtyard. Cleo was wonderful in giving... More

We had an excellent stay in this restored, heritage building located in the same neighborhood as the best big easy jazz bars. The place has a wide selection of rooms, which can accommodate families of various size. The owner/host is a delightful yet mildly eccentric lady who loves to share local knowledge and advice with guests. The mansion is an... More

When you stay at a bed and breakfast, you normally expect hospitality, home comforts or at the very least, breakfast! Claiborne Mansion provided none of these and instead, came with a rather unpleasant host (if you can even call her that). Frankly, during the entire stay, we felt as though we were unwanted guests who crashed at her house. Towels... More

I stayed here with my 13 year old daughter for two nights. It is an absolute gem of a place - you will really feel like you are part of the area staying here. The host Cleo is fabulous - we loved her to bits. It was a totally different experience from staying at a hotel in that you really... More

I first stayed at the Claiborne Mansion over 15 years ago right after Cleo, the current owner, bought and remodeled the house bringing it back to its historic beauty both inside and out. (The house has only had 5 owners since it was built and was formerly the home of the mayor of New Orleans.) Since then, I have come... More

If you want to experience the real old elegant New Orleans, in a quiet neighborhood setting, but near enough for a 2 minute walk to Funky Frenchman Street and 10 minute walk to the heart of the French Quarter - look no further than the Claiborne Mansion. If you like sterile, uniform, predictable, institutional hotels, this is NOT the place... More

I absolutely love the Claiborne Mansion AND its owner, Cleo. Is Cleo an anonymous concierge? Absolutely not! She is funny, sometimes abrasive, but always well-meaning, real, and helpful. Maybe I appreciate kooky people more than others, being from a family of lovable kooks, but to me, it just made the place feel more personal, and very New Orleans. Which Cleo... More

Recently stayed at the Claibourne. Had a second floor suite and access to the balcony. My husband is a smoker so staying at regular hotels can be difficult. This was perfect because he smoked on the balcony. I would stay again just for this reason. His only problem was he's used to drinking coffee at all times of the day... More

I didn't find the owner offensive as others did, but she certainly wasn't a charming innkeeper, perhaps strange would be the better word. She has a tendency to lecture you rather than speak to you, and her conversation is often interrupted with elongated pauses that make one think she was having a cerebral episode. We were not young revelers in... More

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.

“There are 2 rooms on the first floor, each share half of the house - one has a large sitting room with a baby grand piano and 2 queen beds. The other has a queen bed and sitting room. The red room upstairs has a queen bed, but is smaller in size and has a nice balcony.”
