Just checked into the Hotel Modern. The interior is as bland and uninteresting as the exterior. The room is incredibly tiny and the so-called Queen bed is a double and sinks. It's a depressing place. I was told all the rooms were about the same. I am very tempted to take the extreme loss on the exorbitant price we paid...

We stayed her for 2 nights and had a good experience. Our room was in the two story building to the left of the hotel above the bar/restaurant and we had a very quiet stay with the exception of the house keeping hours. Our room had a view of the Lee Circle and Monument. The house keepers were noisier than...

This hotel has a lot going for it: good location, friendly staff, very affordable, hip decor, ample sized room space, etc. even though it's pretty basic as you would expect from the affordable rates. I would have liked to rate it higher except there was one issue and it was unfortunate; the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable and I...

The room is tiny!!! I have never paid so much for such a small space. It's clean. The matress is cheap and sinks into the middle. We knew there was not much around this area but the trolley was close. We booked so late while jazz fest was going on it was nearly our only option. But being so far...

Not expecting much from this place as we booked last minute. After a marathon travel tour we were pleasantly greeted and they accommodated us very well. Trolley stop almost right out the front door. Walking distance to the French Quarter. It really isn't as bad as some of the other reviews. We always felt safe. St. Charles Avenue also has...

Hotel was very nice for New Orleans. Room was decently sized* and bathroom was better than many I have seen. All the staff were very nice and helpful. Hotel is on the trolley line and that's very very convenient (if you are going to do more than one trip - buy the 24 hour pass for $3/person/per 24 hrs). We...

This hotel is hard to review. It is in a good location, if you don't mind looking out at Lee Circle and seeing a few homeless people trying to sleep. By "good" location, I think many people are speaking about its proximity to the French Quarter. Honestly I didn't feel comfortable walking outside, even during the daytime. We took Uber...

1. Upon arrival, after driving for 8 hours, I spent 30 minutes looking at 3 different rooms to come up with one that didn't smell overwhelmingly of fragrance I made a request for a fragrance-free room when I made the reservation. The front desk person said it was in the computer but no one passed this info along. Annoying. 2....

We were so happy to find the Hotel Modern solid and quiet. Our room was small and had everything we needed without useless frills found in newer hotels. Everything worked and the staff was great. We found the location handy for walking just about anywhere--we are two women out late and it seemed safe.

Overall I was satisfied with my stay at the Hotel Modern New Orleans. The hotel is located right along the St. Charles Ave. Streetcar line, which will take you directly to the French Quarter (and it runs 24/7). It is also right across the street from the museum district (specifically the WWII museum). The room itself was average. A drawer...

Staying in Arts District / Warehouse District

Neighbourhood Profile
Arts District / Warehouse District
Once a thriving industrial zone, today this district is home to a buzzing arts scene with an amazing assortment of galleries, boutiques, and studios having moved in and set up shop throughout the disused warehouses for which the area is so well known. Much of the art you'll come across here is local in scope, ownership and inspiration. However, among the many old brick warehouses are modern structures of steel and glass housing large-scale cultural institutions of national prominence such as the National World War II Museum, the Contemporary Arts Center, and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Just as eye catching as what’s on view inside the galleries and museums is the chance to see your ship come in at the Julia Street Cruise Terminal, which serves as a wistful reminder of the city’s historic maritime prominence.
