We booked more than a week ago and St Vincent's Guesthouse charged our creditcard. However, when we arrived they told us there was no reservation, because of a problem with online booking sites. Unfortunately, there was nowhere else to stay. We made a reservation for a private room but eventually we were forced to agree to stay in a dorm...

We arrived today booked a week ago and they told us the reservation didn't come through yet. However, our creditcard had already been charged. We booked a private room, but ended up in an overpriced dorm. The other people in the dorm room were ripped off too. Besides, it was seriously filthy!!!!! Don't trust them, your booking means nothing for...

I am not usually one to bash a hostel/hotel online. But in this case I feel it necessary to warn. I am yet another victim of bedbugs after staying at this hostel. The room we stayed in was relatively unclean, but for the price I could deal with it. The problem is I have since discovered I have bedbug bites...

I made reservations for this place during Mardi Gras 2011...they took my debit card information and was told to check in before midnight...when me and my friends showed up for our room at 5pm, we were told there were no reservations for us...so we had to end up staying somewhere else...two days later my credit card was debited for $156.00...

The staff was as helpful and courteous as they could be but the conditions of this place were pretty bad. I tried to over look the roaches, I tried to overlook the dirt and dilapidated conditions because after all it is over 100 years old. But what I could not get past was the lack of air conditioning. It was...

My best friend & I made our first Mardi Gras trip this year. We booked St. Vincents and were pleasantly surprised. Close to the hip places in the garden district, St. Vincents has the friendliest staff in New Orleans. We met the owner who was very gracious. Everyone should stay here when they come to New Orleans. And at $90/night...

I paid a deposit for one day a month before coming. When I got there, I was told that there were no rooms. It was too late to search for a place. They offered me to stay in an already reserved room and that I should leave it early in the morning to find a hotel. The room was really...

We booked online one week earlier, called ahead and they said everything was fine. However, when we arrived at the hotel, nothing was done: no reservation, no room. I guess they give us the worst rooms they have in that guest house. Stains on the sheets, on the walls. The ceiling is falling off and is full of holes. Moreover,...

Good Service People at the reception desk are very nice, and they will do whatever it takes to help you. Very Bad Product I booked 2 rooms ( 1 twin beds and 1 double bed ), and they were very dirty... Ceilings had plenty of stains, and holes, electricity cables were coming outside of the plugs, sheets had holes and...

My time at St. Vincents was really great. I found the staff helpful and kind (especially Shane and Amber), the location unbeatable - close to uptown, downtown, and the French Quarter, and the amenities, while not luxe, sufficient. The food at the cafe was great, the pool was open and a nice break from unusually warm February weather, the free...

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
St. Vincent Guest House is Under New Management!!! As of December 1, 2013 The Guest House will be operated under a new management team that is dedicated to improving both the aesthetics and overall condition of the entire establishment. Steps are being taken to bring this beautiful and historical building to its fullest potential and offer our guests a wonderful experience and comfortable stay. St. Vincent's is not a full service hotel, it is more of hostel/quaint budget hotel that is both economical and located in one of the best areas in the City of New Orleans. (The Lower Garden District) First opened in 1861 as a orphanage; the building has a distinct and colorful history that is worth exploring. The lobby is adorned with photos that reflect the history and show the building's usage over the last 100+ years. Each room has an individual decor and design scape that will make you feel as though you are walking into an era of Nola history gone by... The grounds are well kept and offer several areas for outdoor seating for morning coffee, an evening cigar or just great conversations... Our staff have been trained and are dedicated to providing each guest with the highest level of customer services with courtesy and a smile. Although there are not a great deal of amenities available, every guest will find that the Guest House offers a tremendous value for the price. We have both private sleeping rooms as well as dormitories available. There have been several negative reviews that have been posted in the past and those reviews have been duly noted and taken into consideration for action as we move towards improvements... Likewise, there have been several positive reviews from guests who have enjoyed their stay and the experience at the Guest House; and for that we are thankful! We look forward to this new era at St. Vincent's and welcome each and every guest with open arms... ... more   less
