We loved this hotel and would return. Friendly, helpful staff and a spacious, clean room in a beautifully renovated mansion. Complimentary happy hour, adequate breakfast. We liked the location just outside the French Quarter. An easy 10 min walk straight down Esplanade to the market or Frenchman St (much nicer than Bourbon St) or 15min to Jackson Square (choose a...

Lizmase, Thank you for being our guest. I am glad that you were able to experience so much of what New Orleans has to offer, from food to music. Should you return to New Orleans, I would love to discuss other options that would be more relaxing for you. We look forward to your return! At your service, Melanie C.

We were very impressed by description and photos, however our actual experience left ALOT to be desired!! I paid more for this room than any Ever and it was NOT that Great!! The balcony was much smaller that represented and not maintained and dirty! The door/window to said balcony would Not stay open! Termites visited nightly in the bathroom that...

This venue is a beautifully renovated and well-maintained mansion on Esplanade Avenue located the "quiet" edge of the French Quarter. Our one-bedroom suite included a fully-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and full size appliances, washer and dryer, spacious living area, incredible tub (large enough for two) and shower combo, comfortable bed with wonderful linens and best of all -- a...

Berkleybug, Thank you for being our guest. It was our pleasure to provide that accessible retreat on the “quiet” edge of the French Quarter. We hope to see you again soon! Best Regards, Melanie C.

This is an old mansion converted into a hotel. It was our second stay and will not be the last. It is a stopover from our home to our son's. We always have the car loaded with household equipment as well as our clothes and amenities. They have you park in a gated drive for less than the downtown hotels....

Themomster1, Thank you for returning to Melrose Mansion! As always, it is our pleasure to be your host. I appreciate your feedback, as it will help us to continue making improvements in our selection of breakfast and amenities. Best Regards, Melanie C.

Not sure what all the positive feedback is based on, or perhaps we are spoiled from previous stays at much more reasonably priced and MUCH MUCH more well kept, hospitable accommodations. We booked the 'Grade Balcony' as it was described as being luxurious and the BEST. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Maria and the bellman Eric (who sadly...

Reedstephstuff, Thank you for your feedback. We strive to provide accommodations and service that meet and exceed expectations. Though Eric was great, I regret that we failed to provide a satisfactory stay for you overall. Please know that this review is being taken into consideration by all so that we may continue to improve for the future. Best Regards, Melanie...

I booked this hotel because I didn't want something in the middle of the French Quarter and I also wanted a real southern atmosphere. The building is gorgeous in a pleasant avenue just minutes from the French Quarter. The rooms are very spacious and the people are friendly and always available to help you! The only concern is about stairs....

A beautiful converted mansion very convenient to the French Quarter completely modernized and furnished with a mod décor!!! From the moment you walk in the door the staff greets you and treats you as if you were royalty! The rooms are spacious and comfortable and there are great places to eat nearby. Overall the property is stunning; absolutely breathtaking. There is no denying that fact. The location is fantastic. Maybe that's the problem. The management thinks the aesthetics are enough to make for a great stay. They are sadly mistaken. I travel frequently and most often stay at the Sonesta. This particular visit I stayed at a AirBnB in the Bywater and...

for the amount of money we spent ($300/night after taxes + $26/night for parking) we expected more. The rooms were small, so sparsely furnished- just the bed and a small table with 2 plastic chairs, bathroom in a tight space. The shower was amazing though. I think they are def going for a modern look with everything in white and...

Travelbunny108, Thank you for being our guest. Many festivals in New Orleans take place in April, and this tends to affect rates throughout the city. Should you return, I recommend staying in a Residential Executive room. It includes a king-sized bed, an ample sitting area with a Smart TV identical to the TV in the bedroom, and a whirlpool tub...

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.

“If you are booking an executive suite, I'd skip #4A. It's on the top floor, so the view is nice, but it's not as large as I expected. It's the one with the exposed wooden beams in the photos, and the slanted roof in the bathroom. If you don't see beams or the slanted bathroom ceiling, then you're looking at pictures of another room. They are always visible. Also, the living room/bedroom share an open ceiling, which was a little awkward for privacy purposes.”

“Our room was Miss Kitty which looked newly renovated and had a balcony. My husband has a lot of back aches and this bed was wonderful for him! We loved the comfort of the bed. There is not a full length mirror so I did take the big one down from the wall to use as a full length mirror which worked out just fine.”
