We could not have dreamed of a better place to chill out and prepare our visit to Tikal. Estuardo and his team are paying attention to details to make our stay lovely. Direct access to swim in the lake from the room. Very comfortable beds. What we loved most: the old wood stove where excellent tea and coffee are available all day!
Beautiful setting on Lake Peten Itza. Excellent service. Breakfast is eggs to order, and dinner included is a fixed plate. Swimming and paddle boarding available. Close to the water. It is not far from Tikal and other archeological sites.
What can I say, this place is fantastic. The setting is stunning, just walk out your room and dive into the lake. The manager Estuarte is welcoming, attentive and his staff are so kind. The hotel is ideally placed to go and visit Tikal and so much better than staying in Flores. A must stay if you are going that way.
The hotel is located on the lake with great views and ample access to all kinds of water activities that we unfortunately did not take advantage of. The rooms that we stayed in toward the back were spacious with private patios and jacuzzis that we also did not get to enjoy. The common dining area/ lounge has a cozy and rustic feel with a high ceilinged thatched roof. The staff have a variable knowledge of English from fluent (the manager) to halting ( some of the waiters) to none ( a couple of the receptionists). Also while the menu lists a variety of dishes the staff are somewhat reluctant to provide many of them on request citing long preparation times. The drinks were great though :). One of the things that bothered us was that the place seemed to shut down completely at night and there was no one even in the reception area to contact in case of an emergency. So they should at least provide a phone number or some kind of contact information for after hours. Overall it was a good stay and I would go back again.…
Excellent place. This is a truly pet friendly hotel. The owner was welcoming and helpful. Food was excellent and the staff was great. Every detail was considered and the comfort of guests was paramount. A fantastic place to relax and close enough to Tikal for a day trip. Highly recommend.
The “Lost Gringos” is a place to totally enjoy the moments from start to finish during the visit at this paradise of Guatemala. Stuart, owner/manager is a true custodian of a way of living sanely, civilized and as a custodian of a gorgeous part of the world in the shadows of Tikal the “Lost World”. The jungle surrounds and caresses his hotel; yet, the buildings are wood filled rooms and a wonderful dining hall to feed the guests both breakfast and supper with tasty food and attentive service. Be sure to notice the gorgeous wood harvested from the jungle (with governmental permission of course). Their cat Messi (yes after that footballer) and their gentle dog named Lola are their to love!
I was impressed by the details to the daily running of the hotel by staff as well as the management (Estuardo) acknowledgment of guest and their needs. Their recommendations for tour guides and transportation was extremely helpful while planning and visiting archeological sites. Lastly but not the least the breakfast and dinner presented to guest was well presented, delivered hot, deliciously and freshly prepared. I would recommend using most of their services and make your stay at Gringo Perdido easy as pie.
This is a wonderful hotel . Excellent location very relaxing . The staff are very helpful . Always pleasant. The food is very good . I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a quiet relaxing vacation. We had a very nice time and I hope to return again.
Hotel was located about 30 minutes from Tikal National Park. I stayed here for a week during a volunteer trip. The room was fantastic w/ a comfortable bed, A/C, and plenty of room to relax. The staff were all super nice and attentive. Breakfast and dinners were tasty and filling. Property is well kept with plenty of docks and hammocks to relax in. Paddle boards and kayaks were available for use in the lake. Lola the staff puppy greeted every one who enters. This place was awesome!!!!
My wife and I stayed for a long weekend to explore Tikal and Yaxha. The hotel staff arranged transportation from the airport, to and from the Mayan sites. We enjoyed the tasty meals, welcoming staff, including Lola the hotel Labrador and relaxing views and swimming in Lago Peten Itza. Truly a jungle gem.
