While we were not impressed with our guest keeping cabin (very old, rundown, horrible, sagging mattresses; however, nice bathroom), it was functional enough, and so well-located just steps from gorgeous Sylvan Lake, that we would return (I'd try to get a newer cabin if possible). Besides the location, the other reason to visit this lodge is the lodge itself. The... More

We stayed at a Sleeping Cabin at Sylvan Lake Lodge and had a few surprises. First and foremost, you have to know that the cabins and lodge are quite a ways up the mountain from the lake - a quick drive, but you will need to get through the State Park ranger checkpoint, which can take a little while. The... More

We have stayed in the one room housekeeping cabin and the 3 room housekeeping cabin and have enjoyed both. The housekeeping cabins are rustic but this is part of the charm. The units with kitches do have cooking utensils and dishes, though I typically still bring items in case the unit has missing items. When you have more than two... More

Staying at this place has been one of the worst travel experiences of my life. The pictures online did not in any way match the actual cabin, there were more bugs and moths flying around in this "vacation cabin" then in the hunting cabins of northern North Dakota that I've stayed in, the picnic table provided was ready to fall... My family recently stayed at Sylvan Lake Lodge as part of a family vacation to South Dakota. We typically stay at hotels, but thought it would be a fun adventure to stay at a lodge in Custer State Park. While we enjoyed the views and scenic byways of Custer State Park, this stay was the ultimate disappointment for my children,... More

This is one of the most beautiful lodges and locations I have ever stayed in. That being said, it's a shame that it is so poorly managed. The service was extremely slow in the restaurant. The right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. You could ask a question and get a different answer from every employee. We... More

We had 2 nights stay booked at this lodge and very high hopes. The first night we stayed in the main lodge on the 3rd floor. Rooms are very dated but clean. They are in need of a good remodeling. The bed was very soft and seemed very old. Much too soft. I t was cool there and we had... More

We stayed here for 2 nights at Sylvan Lake Lodge, Custer, SD. BAD EXPERIENCE. FIRE/SMOKE, On the second night when we were just getting to sleep, the FIRE/SMOKE alarm went off. This was not a drill as I smelled smoke and the hallway outside our door filled with smoke. It ended up being the they tried lighting a fire in... More

We had a room on the first floor with a queen-size bed. The rooms are very small. When you open the door to the hallway anyone passing by has a direct view of the bed. The mattresses are old. The bathroom is small. And, the air conditioning does not cool down the room sufficiently. You can hear noise from the... More

We stayed in lodge 503, just two twin beds and kitchen area. Great location. Short walk down to the lake. Highly recommend this lodge. Lake is great, nice trail to walk around it. We did the Blue Bell Lodge Chuck Wagon as well (associated with this lodge) - Highly recommend it. See lots of animals, have a great time with... More
