Stayed here for New Year with a family group in 4 rooms. Booked thru Iglu/Neilsons and this is a great resort with lots of bars and restaurants. Great apres-ski! We got a really good deal and with low expectations, we were all very impressed with the accommodation. The town is quite large but well laid out and nothing is too far from the "pension". The ski bus stops outside, the boot room is a good facility. The rooms are large, comfortable, traditional, warm and clean - I couldn't fault them and would stay again, all rooms have a balcony and most have chairs and a table in front of the beds, some with a sofa as well as the table and chairs!! The TV had at least 4 English BBC channels. Our bathroom was large, the shower quite small but powerful enough and always plenty of hot water. We had 4 out of 5 rooms on the top floor and the 3 rooms on the back were bigger and had more furniture, the middle room at the back was the only one with a bath. Rooms were cleaned each day and though basic breakfast was ok each morning with polite service offering fresh coffee. We opted for half board which is taken over the road at the Hotel Rose, this is literally a few steps away and a lovely hotel and the standard of food was very good. It was very warm in here! i have to mention it bcause it was bordering uncomfortably hot on some nights! We had 3 young children in our group and there is a childrens playroom downstairs which has a small soft play area, small climbing wall, table football and air hockey table and this made our evening meals and the children LOVED it! Little note that a bottle of wine in here works out ALOT more than a glass or 1/4 or 1/2 litre so that is the way to order wine! New Year in Mayrhofen was quite magical, they really know how to celebrate with fireworks here and the atmpsphere was amazing. Ski conditions were great, the best in years i believe and my 6 year old had great private lessons. This is an intermediate resort really and is limited for beginners, certainly on the Penken mountain. There are other options for skiing but these have to be accessed by train or bus (free on your lift pass). We did go on the train to Kaltenbach and it is easy enough but obviously just a bit more time on your day and a novelty for us as used to having ski areas all linked up. We ate most days at the Bergrast mountain restaurant for lunch at the top of the Penken, this does both self service or a la carte and we booked most lunch times in the restaurant and the food was great, service great and reasonably priced. I would definitely return to Mayrhofen and I hope the Gastehaus (Pension) Elisabeth doesn't change too much because i would stay here again, great value, great location, great stay!…
We stayed at the Elisabeth last week having booked through Neilsons. We were a little apprehensive as only 1 review on TA and the price we paid for the package holiday was very reasonable. Any concerns we had were soon forgotten. The location was fantastic. Far enough from the main Gondola area to avoid the noise from Apres Skiers having a good time but very close to several bars and lovely restaurants. Also the ski bus in the morning was very regular and only a very short walk down hill. At the end of the day the bus stopped opposite the Hotel. Very close to the hotel you had Funky's bar, Piccadilly bar, Scotland Yard and Mo's which our favorite. One of our favorite restaurants Edelweiss was next door. The Elisabeth itself was basic in facilities but had all we needed for a good stay. Our room was on the first floor (room 16). For some people this possibly would be an issue as there is no lift, but we were aware of this before booking so not a problem for us. The room was much larger then expected and typical Austrian with two large twins made into a double. The room had a separate table with armchairs. The bathroom was large although the shower was a bit on the small side. We also had a balcony which we were not expecting. The room was warm at all times, occasionally a little too warm which is not a bad thing. We even opened the window at night. The room was cleaned everyday. Breakfast was a fairly basic affair being buffet and having the usual, cheese, meats, breads, juices etc. Nothing to get excited about but fuelled us for the ski day ahead. There is a Ski Boot room which is warm and secure for convenience on the lower ground floor so no tackling stairs at all in Ski Boots. The staff were very friendly and always greeted you and kept the place very clean. If you are looking for 5 star then this will not be for you but for excellent value and location you will be hard pressed to beat this. Would definitely book here again without doubt.…
We stayed at the Gastehaus Elisabeth on a last minute package in January 2016 at a very good price. Having stayed in Mayrhofen a few times, the location is good, fairly central with all the central areas of Mayrhofen easily accessible on foot. That said the two gondola's are touch far whilst in ski gear however this is not a problem with a ski bus just a metres up the road. Now for the downside, having been to Mayrhofen and stayed at a variety of properties, this has is been the poorest quality wise and could be described as being dated and a touch basic. That said the rooms are big and the beds comfortable for a good night sleep. The room had plenty of storage, a table, flat screen TV and large en-suite decorated as though it came from the 70's. Again not a major issue with plenty of hot water for the shower. Breakfast was provided in the breakfast room of the ground floor, pretty standard but set you up for the day. There is a ski room accessed from the outside, the room appearing to be an afterthought with made up storage with no boot dryer/warmer (first to the radiator did the job)! There was free Wi-Fi however at the time this could only be accessed on the ground floor. We got the Elisabeth at a bargain price on HB with dinner at the excellent Rose opposite so really shouldn't moan, but for those considering staying at the Elisabeth I formed the impression that it was stuck in a time warp (may have been reopened) and not up to the standard of other similar accommodation in Mayrhofen. That said it is in a good location and if the price is right, can be part of an enjoyable ski holiday. Another positive the maid at the time was always helpful and friendly, there is no dedicated reception or on site staff other than her.…
