Enjoy your stay in Mayrhofen!
We have just returned from a week's stay as a couple. We booked last minute and so I wasn't too sure what to expect, however, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. If you are looking for serious Après Ski the location may not be for you as it is a taxi ride into Mayrhofen.. for us the location was wonderfully quiet and beautiful. There is a village bus that picks you up from the end of the road in the mornings (you need to book on the evening prior) and returns at the end of the day (every 30 mins - no booking required) to the Finkenburg gondola so transport is really easy. We had a hire care and made the 15 min drive twice down to Zell am Ziller - we really enjoyed the skiing there and would highly recommend a trip there is if you get the opportunity. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the chef is excellent, serving filling and tasty meals everyday. The dining staff are very attentive and take great pride in the presentation of the food. As part of the all inclusive deal you are welcome to make a sandwich at breakfast to take onto the slopes. which is a nice touch. I am a vegetarian and there was always an option for me. The inclusion of wine and beer during the evening was great and part of the reason we selected this accommodation. The rooms were spotless and a decent size with a good sized bathroom, rustic is how I would describe it. There is a sauna which you can book, we used it a couple of times, it was very relaxing, towels and robes are provided. On arrival the manager was a little rushed and curt but I think that was just her manner, she was actually very welcoming and helpful and let us drop our stuff off before check in time so we could hit the slopes early. The rest of the staff were good too, the waitress in the evenings, although she didn't speak English was very attentive and the rest of the staff were very helpful with bus times, directions etc. We were looking for a value for money stay and that is certainly what we got and if we were thinking of coming back to this area we would consider staying here again.…
Stayed as two groups on an all inclusive deal which was excellent value. The hotel was clean, well run and with decent sized rooms and bathrooms. Our room on the first floor had a nice view across the valley and the area is very quiet so no interrupted sleep at night (from outside anyway). It's a no frills kind of guesthouse but actually has everything you need: clean bedding, heating, ski cellar, hot running water and a bit of rustic charm. Although it's a little way out of town it is well located. If you're looking to be in the centre of the action in Mayrhofen this might not be the place but there is a ski bus laid on by the hotel as well as a service bus which passes a few times a day. Plus it wasn't that expensive for a taxi (around EUR12 into town with boards etc). It's a good 20 min walk to the pubs and bars along a quiet road. But if you're looking for a quiet nights sleep to hit the slopes nice and early then Hochsteg is a good base. As part of our deal we had food included which was better than expected. Breakfast was a standard meat, bread, cheese and egg selection with variety of drinks. You could make sandwiches for lunch too which is a nice touch. Dinner was usually some traditional fare such as schnitzel, meat loaf or pasta - all done buffet style. We had a vegetarian and two gluten free among our party and the hosts were nothing but accommodating. Gluten free bread provided every day and veggie and gluten free options in the evening. The only issue we had really was the WiFi didn't work properly. They charge a euro a day for everyone in the room (regardless if they use the wifi or not) but we managed to get a little money off as it didn't work at all for a few days. There was a sauna which I personally didn't use but one of our party did which sounded good. Overall we found Gasthof Hochsteg an excellent location to base ourselves and would recommend without hesitation.…
Stayed there in the 70's and again in 2015. The son and his wife have taken over the hotel and did extensive renovations and additions. A beautiful location overlooking the valley of Mayrhofen. Rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. The Hotter family care of their guests.
Stayed 4 night srecently with 4 friends on an all-male ski trip. Superb price and met our needs perfectly. Not ideal for a trip with the family however. The room had bunk beds, open roof-light (so early morning wakening with light) and shower on the landing rather than en-suite. For a two-star the food was very good, service impeccable, very hospitable hosts, lovely wee bar to chat and drink. The barman tended to herd us off to bed at midnight which is no bad thing when you plan to ski the following day. We had hired a van which made it very accessible. There is a ski bus stops right outside if not. The location is stunning - beutiful rustic wooden bridge crossing a gorge to access the hotel. Internet access (though not wi-fi). Table tennis table! All of us would definitely return for this type of trip, not one for a family ski trip I suspect though most of the rooms are en-suite if you book ahead.…
