Stayed in January for a weeks snowboarding with my brother in law. Check in was swift and were located on the 2nd floor overlooking the field next door. Room was as expected, Austrian twin with bathroom and balcony. Room was clean and very comfortable. If you wanted to look for dust under beds and in the corner of drawers then you'll find it but this was easily more than adequate for what we needed. Local Breakfast provided was excellent, large choice of meats, cheese, cereal, fruit and bread. Freshly squeezed orange juice was tremendous. What was a massive surprise was the in house spa facilities. Looked fairly new, had 3 rooms (sauna, steam room, and a herbal hot room) all we're fantastic after a day on the slopes. The swimming pool was great too. There we're shower facilities beside the steam room, very powerful and hot so exactly as I like it. Board/ ski locker room was good, individual coded lockers with heat facilities for drying boots and gloves. The location of the hotel was also not an issue, far enough from the noise of the German techno but close enough to walk to pubs/ restaurants. Penken lift is 10 mins walk in boots with boards or the train station is 4 mins walk, there's also the ski bus which stops pretty much outside the front door for those who can't be bothered walking. A side note for those of you who were worried about the hotel cat - my brother in law spent time chatting to the little fella and he seemed happy to be sitting outside in all weathers - if it got too cold there was plenty of little places he could go and keep warm, definitely not worth starting an argument about. Ski areas - use the webcams to decide where to go in the morning, each one had its own weather. Penken lift, it's one of the main lifts, can get very busy but it's OK Zell am ziller- our favourite place of the week, was quiet and had some great snow Gerlos - never made it so have to come back. Hintertux - more difficult runs Kaltenbach- was fairly busy, good runs though. All in all, a great place to base a week in Mayrhofen and the surrounding area - make use of the zillertal pass and get out further.…
Why are some folk so rude? I have stayed at this and many other hotels in Mayrhofen over many years. It is the best value for money hotel in the whole resort. By reading some of the more recent reviews, you would think this family are some kind of monsters. Let me put a few things straight, so you can make a balanced and informed decision about staying here. The cat belongs to a neighbouring property and chooses to sleep on the bench out front on a cushion put there by the hotel owners. The joy on folks faces as they sit and fuss him/her is lovely to see. That is why the cat chooses to sit there. Simples. If you travel with Crystal Ski the rooms are in an annex building right next door. Yes, it has aged decor but most of it is aged pine. The beds are the most comfortable I have slept in and are perfect for all but the lanky. That is not the fault of the hotel. A bed is a standard length and may indeed have a foot board. There may be the odd crack on a tile or wear on a well used bit of carpet. The rooms are cleaned every day and they make your bed and change the towels if you leave them on the floor. This is explained on a sign in the bathroom. The shower pressure is good, the toilet paper is fine, the rooms are toasty warm, there is a modern Samsung flat screen TV. A few of the rooms do not have a balcony and are small. One even has two single beds that are not next to each other. But Crystal describe it as a small room with two single beds, which it is. You can pay more to upgrade to a balcony or get this room for a song, if all you want is somewhere to put your head at night. In my opinion the breakfast is the best one in the resort and the staff are charming. There are free heated ski lockers in the basement. Regarding their attitude. They simply react in the style they are approached! Austrians don't do fawning. If you are expecting the Ritz, stay somewhere else. I can afford to stay in posher places but this place is perfect for us. A small family run place, and some of the rooms are next to the petrol station they own, which also has a shop selling hot food , beer etc. If you stay at the front of the building, look across and up from your balcony you see snow capped mountains. If you just look straight down you see a couple of fuel pumps 50 yards away. It's a quiet spot run by a caring family. The free bus stops outside and takes you to the lift station in a few minutes. It is also near the train station should you wish to go to the other nearby resorts for free. The ski pass covers all the lifts in all the resorts as well as all the buses and the train. Book it at the right time and it is only £600 or so per person, B&B with a balcony, flights and transfers included. …
We stayed for a week for a snowboarding holiday. I just did not find the room comfortable at all and have never slept so terribly. There is a footboard on the bed which means if you are tall you feel very cramped. There are no reading lights, only one overhead light so it’s not in any way cosy. There are no kettles in the room to make tea and the sink only produces hot water so it is difficult to get a cold drink. Dated bathroom with large crack in the sink however the shower was very hot and powerful. The “balconies” are underwhelming, ours was a dark corner facing the wall of another building. The wifi did not work at all in our room. The spa facilities are nice and breakfast was ok. The hotel is clean if somewhat dated. I personally think it is worth paying a little more to have a more comfortable hotel experience.…
Stayed at this hotel for one night on a recent motorbike tour of the Austrian Alps. Perfect location and easy to find as only 200m from the main road into Mayrhofen. Plenty of free, off street parking available at the hotel. Friendly and straight forward check in. Was traveling alone, so opted for a si gle room, with single bed. Room size was excellent, even will a balcony and view acoss the valley. En suite bathroom and shower were very clean, with plenty of warm water available. Breakfast buffet was excellent, especially as it was included in the room rate. Highly recommended!
Just don’t book it! Service and attention are terrible, that is first thing. You arrive to spend holiday in the mountains and I doubt you’d like to have smelly gasoline station 2 metres from your room. Just this already was huge disappointment, but at this point we didn’t see our room. When we entered, looked like we enter in jail room, filthy, smelly, outdated, cracked, I don’t know how many more words I can you to describe it. We just left immediately to try to figure out what to do. We didn’t really have other options for this night. We asked Agoda for large bed instead of two separate, but the thing is there was hardly even space for us to move, not to move those beds. We obviously didn’t booked cheapest hostel for this price, but room i guest was worst than cheapest hostel. Smelly inside, broken and leaking toilet didn’t let us sleep, as the sound of the other guest taking piss and coughing (sounded like in our room). Talking about covid times, all hotels and experiences we went in austria previously asked us covid test or vaccination certificate, this hotel apparently don’t care about your safety. Be aware! Just never had experience like this with hotels in my life. Unbelievable they even sell room like this. We didn’t still anything to be in jail like this. Obviously left this filthy place first things in the morning.…
we specified double room and we got a single room of maximum 8 square meters with a tiny window in the ceiling. the photos we saw on the website prior the booking are totally misleading. we found the room also very dirty, plus we have the toilet leaking that made our sleeping impossible. The hotel is located right next to a gas station and I can smell the odour of gasoline right in the room. For sure this is the worst experience ever had We tried to talk about the problem at the reception they just ignored us say well there’s nothing we can do about it
Very clean, Good located hotel. Bathroom would need Restauration. Warm water was not working in the late evening. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Fresh fruit and large variety of sweet and savory dishes.
My family stayed in the annexe of the Hotel. Single rooms were compact, older, but functional and kept very clean. Nice views available from every room. Plenty of hot water and Comfortably warm. Breakfast was plentiful and of a good standard. Swimming pool and saunas were a great addition. We took the half board option and enjoyed lovely fixed menu evening meals in another local hotel. The owner was very hospitable and tried to assist in every way, staff lovely too. With the age of the hotel, expect the odd creaky floorboards - they add to the ambience! Otherwise, bring earplugs and enjoy it regardless!
we recently went back to and stayed with franz and aggita at the obermair .as we first went to the hotel in 1982 and stayed in the village for 10 visits not all at the obermair but several times .then we went to the usa until last june when we went back .and again this year .the family are wonderful always ready to help the sons now help out in the mornings with breakfast ,not to be missed .its home made .continental style with all from the village .so if you go to mayhofren look no further than the obermair
This is our 2nd stay at Mayrhofen and at the Obermair hotel. This hotel is very traditional so do not expect 5 star contemporary which I think some people want. This is a nice hotel which is good value. We stayed in room 11 which isn’t the biggest but we are literally only in the room to sleep so was sufficient for us. Maid cleaned everyday with fresh towels and our bedding was changed. Nice shower which was hot and powerful. The breakfast gave a good selection of cold meats, bread, cereals, fruit, limited hot food and coffee, tea and juice. The staff are just lovely and I was truly shocked to read some reviews that were not happy with the customer service as all the staff we met and spoke to were very friendly and approachable. If you are looking for a decent place to stay , clean , traditional then this is the place to stay. If you are looking for contemporary, posh 5 star then I wouldn’t stay here. Thankyou for a lovely stay .…
