Had a lovely stay at the Strolz at the beginning of January 2023. We stayed in the annexe, where our room very very basic, but clean and comfortable. Although I was a bit concerned when I saw how basic the room was, the main hotel and its facilities were fantastic. Food was superb and plentiful every single night. Staff were friendly and helpful. The spa was a lot better than I expected and we enjoyed it most days. The large sauna in particular was great after a day's skiing.
Sorry to start with the negatives. Food was awful, worst at any ski hotel in Austria in over 20 years! Tough meats, over cooked veg, small amounts. Breakfast very simple and a very small range of options- bacon was rock hard. Went to the Spar to get addional items and ended up eating out every night as you can't ski on no food. Do not cater for any dietary requirements - lactose intolerance, veggie, vegan. Spoke with Crystal rep who said she had already been told a number of times about the issues! Owner, Hanns, was rude from the moment we arrived. He was also rude to his staff. Had to ask for toilet paper! Pillows terrible. Rooms not vacuumed all week and towels thin and tiny. Positives. Rooms were hot and there was plenty of hot water.
I want to give an open and honest review about The Hotel Strolz. Firstly, about us - we are keen Skiers and tend to do a trip each year, I say this as important that we are comparing this against other Skiing experiences Hotels. I was a little apprehensive about the Pension Strolz after having read Tripadvisor reviews, however we went with an open mind. We arrived Boxing Day evening, we advised the Hotel of our late arrival and that we would be likely to miss dinner. The Hotel kindly had prepared breads, cheeses, meats for our arrival to tide us over until the morning. We had two rooms in the Strolz - One in the main building and one in the Annexe. To be honest I did prefer the room in the main building, it felt more spacious and was certainly warmer. It had a fresher feel, however the room in the Annexe, was of a similar (slightly more tired) decor. It was by no means unpleasant. To be clear, the rooms are typical of an Austrian Pension, they are not modern, but very comfortable and very clean and cosy. We were definitely happy. Service I had read much about the poor customer service in the Hotel. Honestly, we did not find this at all, to the contrary, service was excellent. The restaurant staff work so so hard and are extremely attentive. The Hotel owner i think has high standards and expectations too, I think bare this mind, this may come across as inflexible, but i believe it is to ensure standards are maintained for all rather than for individuals. Dining Each evening we were served a 4-course dinner. Starter, Soup Course, Main, Desert. The food really is exceptional. Lamb shank, Pork fillet, Steak etc. On New Year's Eve we were served a 7-course gala Dinner. It was exceptional and a fantastic experience. followed by an awesome Firework display. Breakfast is a simple fair with typical options, Fruit, Yogs, Cereal, Hams, Cheese, Bread, Scrambed / Boiled Eggs, Sausage. Drinks We pay for drinks each evening, Beer around 4.3 Euros / Wine, Soft Drinks 3.5 Euros - all reasonable. Convenience Approx 10 mins into Centre of Mayrhofen for shops although, bars in 5 mins. Ski bus stop 3 mins walk. Bus every 15 mins. Great Ski / Boot room with warmers. Too far to walk to Ski lift. Would we visit again - definitely …
Our family of 5 spent 8 nights at the Strolz over Christmas, in the Edith Suite of the main hotel. It was the perfect set up - teens had their own room next to us, whilst the youngest took the sofa bed in our antechamber. The hotel is warm and clean, the beds are comfortable, the showers are hot - just what you need coming off the slopes. The food at the Strolz is exceptional: four courses every evening, with vegetarian options; the waiting team are kind, engaged and efficient. The wine list is terrific too and the daily recommendation a lovely touch. Highlights for us include the fresh ravioli whilst the kids loved the chicken curry. Christmas Eve is a special event with delicious canapés to accompany a glass of sekt right through to fireworks with our puddings. Then we all gathered around the Christmas tree (with real candles!) for carols and a reading. Mayrhofen itself has a good range of well maintained slopes for family skiing. The lift service is efficient and the ski schools are friendly and genuinely teach the kids, not just ‘follow the leader’ which we’ve found in some French resorts. The Strolz is a 10 min walk from the lifts so we hired gear and used a locker at the top of the Penken - shout out to the team at Ski Centre Hubert Kroll for their brilliant service. Walking home in moon boots made life much easier! Thanks to Hans and his family for making us feel so welcome.…
Comfortable room with balcony, good free wi-fi and Television in room. South facing balcony with flowers watered and tended daily. Staff all helpful. Approximately 600 metres from railway station and bus hub. Great location Quiet location, large garden with mini golf also loungers , tables and chairs. Excellent quality food, hot when it should be and cold when it should be. Choice of main course each day. Have been previously in winter and spring and happy to go yet again. Lots to see, walking and biking can be enjoyed in the Zillertal.
My partner and I booked to stay last minute in Hotel Strolz. We stayed 12th-19th March in room 212 in the main hotel. On arrival we were greeted by reception to get checked in. We then went to our room, which is a lovely modern room, spacious wardrobes, balcony, comfy bed, modern bathroom with excellent shower. The staff in the hotel have been excellent - so attentive, quick and very friendly service. Food is AMAZING, the 4 courses at dinner are really a highlight. The menu with suggested wines is a lovely touch including a vegetarian option. The buffet breakfast has a variety of breads/cereals/fruits/meats and cheeses/eggs/pancakes/bacon/sauces and juices/tea/coffee. There is also a pool and facilities in the hotel which is great for recovery after skiing. The hotel is 10 mins walk from the main gondola. It is nicely tucked away from the Main Street where all the restaurants and shops are so it is nice. We highly recommend staying here and are already planning out next visit for 2023. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Strolz for a fabulous holiday!…
Mayrhofen is a great location for a family ski holiday and the Hotel Strolz offers good value for your stay. It is located in a beautiful spot just outside the main town centre just about walkable with skis but the ski bus service is excellent. Hotel rooms and facilities are nice with a lovely indoor pool which was warm and inviting although often empty. Sauna area also great particularly at the end of the day but closed at 6.30 (officially). Food was plentiful and wholesome no afternoon tea unfortunately. Front desk could have been more friendly and welcoming but restaurant staff were helpful. Overall a good place to stay but needs to work on customer service.
Firstly, a huge thankyou to the manager for helping us find an emergency doctor in the evening! This is a lovely hotel in pretty Mayrhofen. It is a little way out from the centre of town, meaning it is nice and quiet in the evenings. It is a little bit of a walk to the Penkenbahn but there is a regular bus that stops nearby if you are so inclined. The room was very clean and comfortable. Lots of room, a big desk and tv, and a great view from the balcony. The bathroom was small but functional, with heated towel rail and great water pressure in the shower. The room was cleaned and towels replaced every day - personally I would prefer towels to be replaced less often for environmental reasons, but it does mean you always have clean towels so that's fine. No tea/coffee facilities in the room however. Breakfast was fine, with fruits, cereal, bacon, eggs, breads etc. Evening meals were delicious and beautifully presented. We were given a choice from 2 or 3 set menus each day, with the difference typically only being the main course. I actually enjoyed this as it meant I tried things I might not normally order, but picky eaters may be put off. Make sure to let them know in advance if you have special dietary requirements. The sauna and swimming pool were also a nice way to end a full day on the slopes. There is also a heated skiroom with boot driers which was perfectly fine. No lockers to store things securely but I don't think it is necessary here. All in all, would highly recommend Hotel Strolz! Danke schön!…
We spent 5 nights here for family winter vacation and New Years eve. We have been really amazed and satisfied with all the services. The rooms are quiet, clean and big enough. Food delicious and nicely designed - simply the Art. Staff very helpful and always ready to help and serve. We recommend staying at this hotel. You gain the real value for money. Unforgettable experience for us.
We stayed at this hotel as a party of 9 people in March 2020. Rooms are typical Austrian decor, hotel has a swimming pool and sauna area which were lovely, pool was a really good size only downside was it was a bit on the cold size but my daughter who is 4 was not bothered by the cool water. Food was cooked and presented very well they even catered different meals for my fussy 4 year old! I have recently read some negative reviews regarding management etc but we had no problems at all the manager and his wife were very friendly throughout the week, the biggest plus of the week was the waiting staff who went above and beyond and the 2 waiter’s who we had all week were exceptional we would definitely return!
