first of all, we booked the stay and really looked forward to stay at this B&B. however, my friend got sick and we had to cancel the stay, the owner were in quick communication and very accommodating in this whole situation. Thank you for understanding and I look forward to visit in the future.

Big Island Retreat is the perfect home away from home. It has a superbly clean and relaxed feel, tons of amenities (even things you can borrow like backpack beach chairs, sunscreen, sand mats, body boards and snorkel gear - all for use at the great beach across the street!), and Gigi the property manager is the best you will find...

We loved the Big Island Retreat! We spent four nights here in April 2017. The location on the Big Island can't be beat - away from the busy part of Ali'i drive, but close enough to great attractions, food, and supermarket. I walked every day down the driveway and across the street to snorkel and swim (I borrowed one of...

This gem, immaculate guest rooms (each with lanai), walking distance to the beach, owes much of its considerable restful air to property manager/host Gigi. She's a constant, quiet presence, feeding the feral cats on the property, ensuring that guests have all they need in the way of beach gear, and gently assisting everyone who stays to regain as much peace...

My husband and I spent three nights at BIR and we concur with all of the positive comments already noted. This is a quaint, cozy location and GiGi is the ideal host. The grounds are immaculate, our room was beautiful and the location is perfect. We stayed in the Seaside room and had a view of the ocean from our...

w: THE place to stay in Kailua-Kona....at least for us. Your experience: We recently spent seven nights at The Big Island Retreat (BIR) and loved it. It is where we will stay when we visit Kailua-Kona. You can look at the pictures on the website to get a feel for the rooms and the grounds - they represent it well....

This was the perfect location for our visit to Kona. Centrally located, clean, well equipped. We'll definitely be back. They had coolers, snorkels, beach chairs (and more) available to borrow for our adventures. We really appreciated Gigi's hospitality.

This is an open-air home with plantation-style architecture and center courtyard; despite the TripAdvisor category of B&B/Inn, it's neither (certainly no breakfast provided, and no housekeeping services). The property is located quite a way from the busy part of town, which meant lovely quiet nights without street lights. Be sure to bring the confirmation e-mail and directions with you, as...

This is the second time we have stayed at the Big Island Retreat, and this visit was just as wonderful as the last. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable. My husband and I much prefer staying here over a sterile bland hotel. There is color in every room and you can't beat the view, or the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a beautifully maintained and landscaped property with five bright, well-appointed, clean guestrooms. We are just steps from Kahaluu Bay, which offers excellent snorkeling and surfing, but tucked back off the main road so the atmosphere is tropical seclusion. Each guestroom has its own private lanai, bathroom with tub-shower combo, refrigerator, convection oven, electric hot water kettle and coffeemaker. Additionally, we provide the following complementary amenities: use of beach equipment, garden sitting room with library and games, and gazebo with gas BBQ. ... more   less
