My parents are traveling to the Banyan Tree on Dec 18th, and my dad is freaking out a little about the Dengue Fever outbreak. Did you have any problems with mosquitos at the property and while you were sightseeing? My dad is thinking of canceling his trip and rebooking for next xmas.

Most of the cases have been in South Kona (Banyan Tree is in North Kona). Bring light weight, light colored, long sleeve shirt(s) and pant(s) and bug spray. There is more information on line on the Hawaii.gov website. Or by searching Dengue Fever Hawaii.
There are fewer mosquitoes at the beach. There is no standing water at Banyan Tree to breed mosquitoes. We are proactive in keeping vegetation trimmed and debris picked up to reduce any mosquito breeding areas. Also, keep fans running and stay indoors during dusk and dawn or wear appropriate clothing and bug spray.
