So disappointed in this hotel. We were not aware or notified that half of the hotel was under construction. The main pool and bar were closed, they only had one restaurant that was open and the spa was also closed. All I got for the inconvenience was a free alcoholic beverage that I was unable to even use. We planned this trip as our babymoon so all I wanted to do was relax and lay by the pool for a little welllll they ran out of pool chairs and since I’m 7 months , I really needed somewhere to sit. I went to ask if they had more and was told yes they did and would bring some down. An hour goes by, I go ask again and was told yet again they’re working on it. 45 minutes go by and I ask the front desk again and was told to ask the pool shop who I then tells me they have no idea ask the lobby. So after over 2 hours of waiting and walking around I finally find out, no they don’t have extra “sorry!” When I asked to speak with a manager, I was given a phone number. I called and left a voicemail but of course, never received a phone call back. How do you not help a visibly pregnant woman find a chair to sit in?! On top of all that, my husband had called ahead to order a Mother’s Day surprise fruit and chocolate spread for that Sunday… which they completely forgot about. Don’t waste your money!! Service and hotel are awful.

The room was clean and spacious. Air condition worked. The pools have 2 sides for adults and the other for family. Water slide for everyone. Hotel guests Balcony to overlook and see the amazing manta rays in the evening. Breathtaking views walking around the resort. 2 restaurants on 1st floor. Coffee and food were great. The gift shop has fruit cups, sandwiches, wraps, tourist gifts, knick knacks, coffee shop with smoothies and more snacks. Strongly recommend you attend their Beautiful Luau. Staff was courteous and very helpful! An Honor and Privilege to have stayed in this beautiful resort, surroundings and most especially the staff and community.

I was nervous to stay here given the reviews and with the current construction I wouldn't have been happy to pay full price (not because of noise/dust, but because the restaurants/spa/bars/etc. are not all up and running!) but I got a nice 30% off deal through the Outrigger website and was happy with what we paid. I chose the oceanfront room knowing I'd get a good view (too many oceanview hotels only offer a glimpse of the water) but never imagined the incredible surprise we got - our room faced directly out to where the lights shine for the manta rays each night so it was like we had our our private manta observation deck! It was unreal! The room was comfy, clean and spacious; the staff were super friendly and helped quickly when our balcony was flooded after a storm, and we loved the morning yoga, mac nut lattes at holoholo market, and the easy self parking (it's really not a long walk). The beach pool was closed for renos but we enjoyed the courtyard pool very much, and the grounds were stunning to walk around in the morning an evening - keep a lookout for goats on the rocks! We were also able to walk to and from Keauhou Bay marina for our night snorkle with the mantas which was super convenient. KTA superstore and L&L BBQ are just down the road for quick eats and the location was perfect for visiting K'au, Kona coffee farms and to get to the airport. Can't wait to stay again when the renovations are complete!

Aloha Suffragettecitygirl, We are thrilled to hear that your stay at Outrigger Kona was a memorable one. Your 5-star review is so delightful to read as it is a true testament of what we want our guest experience to be. It is a pleasure to hear that you enjoyed our ocean front views and even got sight of the manta rays. Our central location allows our guests to enjoy picturesque ocean views as well as the various shops and dining in Kona. We look forward to your next visit with us and hope that it would be better than the last. Mahalo Nui Loa!

Yiiikes. Very dated hotel with small rooms and lots of extra fees. $25 a day to self park and you have to park in the far lot and then walk through the closer lot where the employees get to park to reach the hotel. Booked it via a Priceline mystery “deal” (non-refundable) and was told it was a 4-star hotel. Absolutely not worthy of that many stars as the spa, hot tub and most of the pool area were closed for renovations. Not a convenient location either, had to keep driving at least 15 minutes to get to Kona. Definitely recommend to stay somewhere else, as it was the only bad part of my trip to the Big Island.

From the moment we entered the property, my breath was taken away. Everything was absolutely beautiful! The landscaping, decor, view. I was greeted with smiles, leis and other gifts. Our room was incredible! Decorative towels shaped into swans, our bed adorned with fresh flowers. A private balcony overlooking the bay topped it all off! The grounds were meticulously kept. We only got to eat at the Cafe a couple of times, but the food was delicious. And then the Luau! Despite it getting cut short by rain, it was an incredible experience. The food, dancing, atmosphere... all of it was the true native Hawaiian life! I do highly recommend snorkeling with the Manta Rays!! That was so spectacular! We were blessed to have 8 gentle giants swimming around us! Far enough from "downtown", but still close enough to venture out and explore. I would go back in a heart beat!

The hotel is having a much needed renovation, which we were not told about The majority of the hotel is closed , the spa , pool , ect The noise and dust created by the works is unbearable , We have moved rooms once , they tried to call it an upgrade, but the room was identical but with an partial ocean view. This was only done after we complained to our travel agent, when we asked to change rooms at the time we were told that no other rooms available and they will cancel our booking. The options we have are to stay in the room or leave the complex if we cannot accept the noise. Paradise this is definitely not. I would highly recommend another complex from may 2023

We stayed for 5 nights for the second leg of our Hawaii trip. I'm not too hard to impress with hotels. I already knew about the renovations, and the slightly outdated, so I was prepared. The adult pool was closed when we were there, but the oceanside pool was was better anyway, and it wasn't busy at all, ever. Honestly, the property was very quiet right now. If you don't like crowds, it was worth it to stay during these renovation times. I loved the store, it had a little bit of everything you need - snacks, souvenirs, drinks. All the staff we encountered was great. We only ate the restaurant once - it was okay once, I recommend checking out other places after that. The spa, poolside bar, and manta viewing restaurant were all closed. Although the viewing deck was nice, we couldn't see mantas from there. I very much recommend taking a manta snorkeling tour instead! We did multiple tours out of Keauhou Bay, so the location was great for that. The shopping center isn't very far. Otherwise, yes, it is a bit away from town. There is a shuttle you can take in if you want. There's a very nice farmer's market on Friday and the Feast & Fire luau twice a week. We took advantage of everything close by. The walking trails and garden and views along the coast are amazing. We had an ocean view room and it was beautiful. The room was huge. Sure the bathroom could use a touch up, but do I really care about the toilet? The layout of the hotel is confusing and takes some getting used to. Not all towers have elevators. If you self park, make sure you unload your luggage first. It is a long walk from self parking, there is no easy elevator access from the parking level - we ended up lifting our luggage up flights of stairs ugh. We also had issues with no hot water in our shower about half the time. When I addressed this to the front desk, they really only had to option to moving to another room on the ground floor. Which we really didn't want to do, so we just took cold showers so we could keep our view. The property has good potential. I overall enjoyed our stay and enjoyed the amenities and resort benefits we were able to take advantage of. I hope some of the maintenance issues get worked out for the future guests. Despite so many things being closed during this time, we made the most of our stay. Its a beautiful property to walk around, and that alone, I was satisfied with.

The Good: The property is absolutely beautiful. Stunning views of the ocean. When you walk into the lobby, you're instantly greeted with a great view of the coast. We had an oceanfront room and the view from our window was great. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and lovely. The Okay: Self-Parking is a bit of a trek but manageable. Would just recommend to get the Outrigger Club package. The breakfast and cocktail/appetizers make it worth it and it comes with free valet parking. As a note, this isn't very close to Downtown Kona or really walkable to anything but Keahou Harbor (but that's a bonus if you take snorkeling tours out of the bay because it's a short walk there and you won't have to fight for parking). There isn't also really any access to a sandy beach but they have a pretty nice pool even though it was under renovation when we were there. The Not So Great: I think as a lot of the reviews mentioned, the property itself is a bit outdated though they are in the process of renovating it. I thought it was fine given we were mostly out and about and not staying at the resort. Our balcony didn't feel very private because we were on the 1st floor and basically in view of anyone hanging out at the pool or walking the nearby trails. I think the place had amazing potential though and look forward to the remodel and they were very upfront about it and apologetic. Would definitely look into staying again next time we're there if the renovations are complete.

This holiday lived up to my dream of Hawaii. The Outrigger Kona is a way out of Kona itself so if you are looking for something close to town then this isn't the resort for you. The hotels grounds are absolutely stunning and you can sit and enjoy them and the beautiful ocean view. We had an ocean view room that overlooked the bay and it was like waking up in a picture postcard. The rooms themselves are spacious, clean and comfortable. They could do with an update but it seems outrigger are currently working on updating this hotel. We had the breakfast buffet each day which was good value and a beautiful setting with doors opening onto the garden view. We also enjoyed the cultural activities on offer including history, nut bracelet and lei making. These activities weren't well attended which is a shame in my opinion as they were fantastic. Nani and Hayley made our visit really special, teaching us history and Hawaiian culture. The Manta Ray viewing deck is something unique to here where you can watch these magnificent creatures feed on the plancton attracted by the hotels spot lights. You can also enjoy snorkeling in the nearby by which is a five minute walk. All of the staff here were outstanding. A top tip if you want to get into Kona town from here is to take the fifteen minute walk to the shopping area and then catch the free trolly into town. We also enjoyed the luau at the hotel which was really outstanding.

My daughter had her wedding here April 1. The wedding was beautiful and went off without a hitch. Much of this credit goes to Grace Lovig, their event coordinator. We did not have a wedding planner which was risky. But with the help of Grace, we didn’t need one. She was available to us before, during and after the wedding. She knows her stuff and went over and above including helping with decorations, and even personally picking up flowers for us, and delivering forgotten items to our offsite condo. She worked with us on our budget, was very timely. I hope the Outrigger keeps Grace and I highly recommend this venue.
