If it were not for the lovely hotel managers, I would rank this hotel lower. We stayed in the Banyan Cottage. While the setting was lovely, the cottage was in bad need of repair, cleaning, and a bit of redecorating. A break in the glass windows had been repaired with paper towels. The toilet, which was in its own room,...

We stayed at the Hale Maluhia Country Inn for 6 nights in late December. It is a charming, converted country house, nestled in the hills above Kona. The Inn is about 30 minutes from Kona Airport and about 10 minutes from the main commercial area and the beach in Kona. The roads leading to the place are really good so...

We booked our first trip to Hawai'i last-minute and weren't sure where to stay in the Kona area - many of the budget options (e.g. a private room in a hostel) were already booked by the time we started looking. We ended up staying five nights in the cheapest room here (the Maile room), which ended up working for our...

We stayed in the Malia room for two nights. It was a clean, cozy place to stay, and I love hearing the the frogs at night and the chickens in the morning. Ken and Sunny were friendly and knowledgeable about the island and were happy to share their expertise about everything from local farms to snorkelling. Wonderful coffee and bird-watching...

My husband, parents, and I stayed at this Big Island B&B over Thanksgiving. It was quiet, the owner and managers were very good hosts, and the breakfast was delicious. The location was easy to find and relatively close to Kona for restaurants and recreation. We stayed in the Japanese Tea house - the walk-in shower is amazing and the style...

My husband and I were planning our third visit to the big island. This time we were bringing one of our daughters to college in Kona, and celebrating our 24th.yr anniversary. My husband decided for us to stay half of the trip in one hotel downtown, and the other half in a bed & breakfast place. He found Hale Maluhia...

The two nights we stayed here was fantastic. Clean rooms, oasis kind of place from the hot Kona coast. Only minutes from anywhere you want to visit in Kona and sets up on the mountain among the natural vegetation. Surrounded by papaya, mango, citrus and macadamia trees, this is a great place to c o me back to after a...

It's a bed and breakfast. The bed part: although the rooms are simple in nature they have something that most places lack nowadays: character and personality. At least the one where we stayed: the Japanese Tea House or something like that. We never used the Jacuzzi or the TV because we figured: we're on the Big Island. Who has time...

There are two Ken Smiths. The one that owns this and the one that runs it. Bizarrely they are not related. Reviews are not great but I suspect that those refer the owner (whom we didn't meet) who ran it until recently when he retired at a fairly ripe age. Actually, it was very good. A bit old but clean....

We stayed here for three nights. The property is in a beautiful residential area that overlooks Kona (with partial ocean views). The house is tastefully decorated and the room (we stayed in MAILE ROOM) was perfect. The house is dated, but is well decorated and very very comfortable. The new hosts, Ken and his wife, Sonny (sp?) are gracious gracious...
