We booked mainly on the restaurant reviews and for the northern lights wake up calls, but the experience was great from arrival to departure. We stayed in the Africa room, which was clean and spacious, our daughter loved it, it had a balcony with a spectacular view of the river meandering past the rear of the hotel. The staff, both...

Booked extended weekend, staying at the Ranga. Fantastic stay. We had the Japanese style junior suite, different but would want to try the African suite next time. From arriving to leaving we where made to feel special, as I am sure so did all the other guests. Fridirik and the rest of the team work really hard and go the...

Excellent hotel which looked after us very well. Definitely worth staying, especially to see the Northern Lights in winter. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant and bar very welcoming thanks to the owner and staff. A great base to tour the Golden Circle. We will stay again

This is a wonderful hotel near Hella, Iceland. The staff is friendly. The owner greets guests at breakfast and dinner and the accommodations are well kept. The restaurant is top notch as well. They didn't get the accolade of best resort hotel in Europe for nothing. If staying in the winter (or anytime other than summer) the northern lights wake...

Just returned from 4 nights at the Hotel Ranga and was really impressed with everything. Made to feel really welcome by the manager and staff. The hotel was clean, plenty of parking and geared up to see the northern lights at their best, unspoilt by the city lights of Reykjavik. If you want decent photos, you need to be out...

Standard rooms are small but comfortable, otherwise I really can't fault the hotel. Pleasant bar, very comfortable lounge, excellent restaurant, good food. The staff couldn't have tried harder. Hotel goes the extra mile with things like thermal suits available for viewing the northern lights, observatory with expert talks, a lot of help and advise given when we had to travel...

From a lovely champagne reception on our arrival to the exceptional service of the front desk staff, our stay was faultless. Our suite was very roomy and beautifully decorated with lots of books on...

We have stayed for two nights in December and had a wonderful experience. The room (standard double) was very nice, clean, comfortable, quiet and had a beautiful view. All staff were very approachable and professional which created a very friendly and warm atmosphere. The hotel also had a very cosy feel to it which made our stay much nicer and...

We stayed at the Hotel Ranga for one night. The hotel was pretty busy when we were there, but considering it's the only hotel for miles, it's not that surprising. The hotel itself is nice, with a lodge/cabin feel, and the lobby area has some rustic touches. Our room was fairly basic, but met our needs for one night. We...

This hotel is more like a country lodge, with a cabin-like feel to the rooms. It's the only one in the area, so there really aren't very many (or any) alternatives to stay in that region, but the lodge is very comfortable at least. Cheap it is not, even for Icelandic standards it is very expensive. The views of the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
